"Now the just shall live by faith; but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul."

    Victory in Jesus

    ♫♫   ♪

    I heard an old,
    old story
    How a saviour came
    from glory
    How he gave his life
    On calvary
To save a wretch like me

    I heard about
    his groaning,
    Of his precious blood's
    atoning
    Then I repented
    Of my sin
    And won the victory

    Oh, victory in jesus,
    My saviour forever
    He sought me
    And he bought me
    With his redeeming blood

    He loved me 'ere
    I knew him
    And all my love
    Is due him
    He plunged me to victory
    Beneath the
    Cleansing flood

    I heard about his
    Healing,
    Of his cleansing pow'r
    Revealing
    How he made the lame
    To walk again
    And caused the
    Blind to see

    And then I cried
    "dear Jesus,
    Come and heal
    My broken spirit"
    And somehow Jesus
    Came and brought
    To me the victory

    Oh, victory in Jesus,
    my Saviour forever
    He sought me
    and He bought me
    with His redeeming blood

    I heard about
    a mansion
    He has built for me
    in glory
    and I heard about
    the street
    of gold
    beyond the crystal sea

    About the angels
    singing
    and the old redemption
    story
    and some sweet day
    I'll sing
    up there
    the song of victory!

He loved me 'ere I knew Him
and all my love is due Him
    He plunged me to victory
    beneath the cleansing flood.

    Luke 22: 60-62:

"And Peter said, 'Man, I know not what thou sayest':  And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter.  And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him 'Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.'

And Peter went out, and wept bitterly."

        No kidding!
I can imagine that sinking feeling that Peter must've gotten in the pit of his stomach, can't you?   To have the Lord turn and look at us after we had betrayed Him.
And then to know that He went on from there and still carried out the plan to die for Peter, and for all of us.....Wow.

Paul was the one called to spread the gospel to the gentiles.  Before Paul was called the gospel was the kingdom gospel and preached only to the Jews.

Paul preached salvation by Grace.  Peter himself confirmed Paul to be correct.

    1. profile image0
Brenda Durhamposted 13 years agoin reply to this

      True!
Many people opposed Paul because of his past.  They deemed him unfit to preach the Gospel, couldn't wrap their minds around the fact that he was a forgiven man, even though he witnessed about his sins and how he had met Jesus and was commissioned to spread the word.  And even though his life reflected that change.
Some people even today try to dismiss and/or attack him.

SirDentposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Amen, but they refuse to see that any man who proclaims Jesus Christ as being the Messiah is likewise unfit.  The disciples were ignorant and unlearned.  The call of Jesus to spread the gospel is what it takes to make aman or woman fit to spread it.

Those Jews who refuse to see it, do so out of ignorance of God.  Others do it out of blindness.

The Bible says the Jews killed Jesus and they even said, "Let His blood be upon us and our children."  Later in Acts they said, "Act 5:28  Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us."  Talk about being doubleminded.

          Yes.  It's sad.
But Peter and the other disciples declared they would obey God instead of men, and then tells the council again how they (the coucil and the people in general?) had slain Jesus.
Boy, did that ever make the council mad.  But a council member, a Pharisee named Gamaliel stood up on the disciples' behalf...

I'm reading this and trying to figure out if Gamaliel was simply being politically correct in order to avoid what he perceived would be bringing more blame on the Jews, or if he actually believed the disciples...

  11. profile image50

Jesus was sent by the Creator-God to the Jews; so what Paul did was unauthorised by Jesus.
It was sinful for Paul to do such things.

Gamaliel was the president of the Sanhedrin...
    His #1 student was Saul...

Brenda Durhamposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Correct.  I get that.  At least that's what the "scholars' notes" say in my Study Bible.
I was pondering whether he was taking up for his former student Saul for Saul's sake, or if he was just being politically correct for his own sake...

    2. profile image0
SirDentposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Yes but this took place before Saul's conversion.  The Book of Acts was written as events took place.

Gamaliel was smart enough to realize that if God was in what the apostles were doing, nothing they could do would stop it.

paarsurreyposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I don't think it suit well on Saul. Saul or Paul was not a good student; he was only a clever person.

      1. profile image0
Twenty One Daysposted 13 years agoin reply to this

        really?

That explains why the leader of the Sanhedrin taught S/Paul for years, and even funded his "expeditions" to a large degree, helped S/Paul father buy Roman citizenship and --if S/Paul had not gone "into the wilderness" --was going to be elected to be the next President of the Sanhedrin. It was because of their families wealth and strong study by S/Paul that Gamaliel  used his power/influence to get S/Paul in front of some of the top heads of the Roman state if not the emperor himself.

        So much for cleverness.

        James.

    Ain't No Grave
There ain't no grave can hold my body down
There ain't no grave can hold my body down
When I hear that trumpet sound I'm gonna rise right out of the ground
Ain't no grave can hold my body down

Well, look way down the river, what do you think I see?
I see a band of angels and they're coming after me
Ain't no grave can hold my body down
There ain't no grave can hold my body down

Well, look down yonder Gabriel, put your feet on the land and see
But Gabriel don't you blow your trumpet 'til you hear it from me
There ain't no grave can hold my body down
Ain't no grave can hold my body down

Well, meet me Jesus, meet me. Meet me in the middle of the air
And if these wings don't fail me I will meet you anywhere
Ain't no grave can hold my body down
There ain't no grave can hold my body down

Well, meet me mother and father, meet me down the river road
And momma you know that I'll be there when I check in my load
Ain't no grave can hold my body down
There ain't no grave can hold my body down

I've seen a few groups on television music shows, though, that are a bit too "modern",  almost head-banging stuff that don't even have the lyrics audible, etc....but God bless 'em all for good intentions.

      Gospel According to Saint Matthew
      Chapter 5

[16] So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. [17] Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. [18] For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled.

This is the word of God:

{12:1} The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel,
saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and
layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of
man within him. {12:2} Behold, I will make Jerusalem a
cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they
shall be in the siege both against Judah [and] against
            Jerusalem.
{12:3} And in that day will I make Jerusalem a
burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves
with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the
earth be gathered together against it. {12:4} In that day,
saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment,
and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon
the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people
with blindness. {12:5} And the governors of Judah shall say
in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem [shall be] my
strength in the LORD of hosts their God.

{12:6} In that day will I make the governors of Judah like
an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in
a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on
the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be
inhabited again in her own place, [even] in Jerusalem.
{12:7} The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first,
that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the
inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify [themselves]
against Judah. {12:8} In that day shall the LORD defend the
inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them
at that day shall be as David; and the house of David [shall
be] as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.

{12:9} And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] I will
seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
{12:10} And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon
the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of
supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have
pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for
[his] only [son,] and shall be in bitterness for him, as one
that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn. {12:11} In that day
shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the
mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

The point is Jesus fulfilled the prophecy, and died for the sins of man.

    oye,

    condemnation, condemnation, condemnation...
1073 posts and not a word of good news.

Fine, I'll be the one to bring the good news:

All sin has been removed from all mankind as far as east is from west. Death has been destroyed for you by the One who died in your place and it (death) now has no power over you.

Ha-satan, the thoughts in you, are no longer your master.
You do not need books, bangles, beads or trinkets; buildings or boom-boom drum and bass -- joy and peace are your instruments of music.

Life has been restored. Not just any life, but the Life.
Let the words of Life be seen in your spirit, in your mind, and in your body.

Now, go in and possess the land, the kingdom --which has been seeded in you-- yes, that single seed of faith. A seed to manifest Eternal Life and transform you into the image you were created to be ( a tree of life full of fruit, full of every blessing and plenty for everyone in need.)

Sow and reap eternal life together.
    Share all things in common.
    Celebrate.
    Rise up.
    Wash off the ash.
Take off your cloak of mourning.
Shed the chains of slavery to a defeated sinful nature and its memories, its condemnation.
    You are Free.
    Now, start being that freedom.

    James.

    James,
you can throw out the Holy Word if you wish, from your life.
    But indeed I will not.

You do forget that "all sin of all mankind" has been removed upon the condition that "all" actually REPENT.

I (we Christians) mourn, yes, for the lost.  Just because you're happily oblivious to their plight doesn't mean I am.

    Remember this, most especially:

"If Anyone Tries to Condemn You, Remind Them, The word:

-Which is a Breathe of My Mouth
-Is Alive and fashioned everything in nature, is the universe itself
-Is Not Written On Parchment But Is In The Hearts Of Faith
-Which Is Able To Condemn or Bring Life to The Dead

DID NOT CONDEMN YOU... neither do I.

Now, go and (never believe or remind yourself) of Sin or its parts again. For sin is not your nature --Your True Nature is Righteousness -A Mirror Reflection Of Myself.

If I have Made All Men Righteous By My Blood,
Who Is Any To Say Otherwise."

    James.

Yes I am free;  I am "righteous" in His eyes.  But pride would make me fall.  Denying the Cross would make me fall.  Denying my humanity would make me fall. I will do none of those, because my heart is deliberately fixed on Him, He who first Loved me enough to die for me.

It is not His will that any should perish.  Since God could've imposed that "will" upon all, then in your way of viewing things, He would've never seen a need for the Savior to die on the Cross and be resurrected and for wise men to still seek Him.  We all still have that thing called free will, James.  That doesn't change.

Denial would be seeing yourself counter to what you just said...

Wipe the mirror, start seeing your True Reflection.
Let Go of The double Mindedness of "I am free But...".

A Slave Set Free is No Longer A Slave To That Master.
A Man Made Innocent By The Fulfilling Of The Rules Of The Law, cannot be Judged By That Law Again, it is called Double Jeopardy.
You Have Been Judged By The Law And Found Innocent of All Sin.

He didn't do all that work, just to let you suffer like a leper (a person riddled with guilt, shame, a decomposing spirit, body or mind). How could you ever fall away if
-you have even a "mustard seed of faith", right?!
-never consider falling away at all

If Light cannot look upon sin, and you are the Light of The World, how can you Keep Looking At Sin. right?

Now, time to celebrate the Victory by Being That Victory, A True Representative of Life. That is A True Witness, A True Testimony of Your Confession, A Vessel Of Honor, A Bride Without Blemish or Shame, A Wine Cask Full Of New Wine, A Tree Full of Fruit --that Is Fed By The Water of Life -- Feeding You and Everyone Who Eats of it With ONLY Good Things, not a mix of good-n-bad.

      yupper-doodles!

      James.

Carry my Cross as sung by Third Day

    As long as I remember
I've been walking through the wilderness
    Praying to the Father
    And waiting for my time
I've come here with a mission
And soon I'll give my life for this world

    I'm praying in the garden
And I'm looking for a miracle
I find the journey hard but
It's the reason I was born
Can this cup be passed on
Lord, I pray your will be done
    In this world

    So I'll carry my cross
    And I'll carry the shame
To the end of the road
    Through the struggle and pain
And I'll do it for love
No, it won't be in vain
    Yes, I'll carry my cross
    And I'll carry the shame

I feel like I'm alone here
And I'm treated like a criminal
The time has come for me now
Even though I've done no wrong
    Father, please forgive them
They know not what they've done
    In this world

Three more days and I'll be coming back again
Three more days and I'll be coming back again

"my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—

47But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

48Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Oh Why Not Tonight?

(Words: Elizabeth H. Reed, in The Hymn Book, 1842.

    Music: J. Calvin Bushey (1847-1929))

    ♫♫

O do not let the Word depart,
    And close thine eyes against the light;
Poor sinner, harden not your heart,
    Be saved, O tonight.

    Refrain

    O why not tonight?
    O why not tonight?
    Wilt thou be saved?
    Then why not tonight?

    Tomorrow’s sun may never rise
    To bless thy long deluded sight;
This is the time, O then be wise,
    Be saved, O tonight.

    Refrain

Our Lord in pity lingers still,
And wilt thou thus His love requite?
Renounce at once thy stubborn will,
    Be saved, O tonight.

    Refrain

    Our blessèd Lord refuses none
    Who would to Him their souls unite;
Believe on Him, the work is done,
    Be saved, O tonight.

    Refrain

Psa 1:1  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Psa 1:2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psa 1:3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Psa 1:4  The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Psa 1:5  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
Psa 1:6  For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

"...into an image made like to corruptible man"...
Much food for thought there.   Not just about the images of kings etc., that people made and declared to be gods, but also a reference perhaps to the fact that He was not made in our image, but the basic difference between God and man, even though we are made "in His image"...?

Oh I Want To See Him

    (R.H. Cornelius, 1916).

As I journey through the land, singing as I go,
Pointing souls to Calvary—to the crimson flow,
    Many arrows pierce my soul from without, within;
But my Lord leads me on, through Him I must win.

    Refrain:

Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face,
    There to sing forever of His saving grace;
On the streets of glory let me lift my voice,
Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice.

When in service for my Lord dark may be the night,
    But I’ll cling more close to Him, He will give me light;
    Satan’s snares may vex my soul, turn my thoughts aside;
But my Lord goes ahead, leads whate’er betide.

When in valleys low I look toward the mountain height,
And behold my Savior there, leading in the fight,
With a tender hand outstretched toward the valley low,
Guiding me, I can see, as I onward go.

When before me billows rise from the mighty deep,
Then my Lord directs my bark; He doth safely keep,
    And He leads me gently on through this world below;
He’s a real Friend to me, oh, I love Him so.

Oh I want to see Him, look upon His face
There to sing forever of His saving grace
On the streets of glory let me lift my voice
Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice!

Went last night to see Third Day live in concert.  My first time seeing them live and the first concert I have been too since I gave my life to the Lord.  Had an awesome time with my son who is 14 years old.  At the end of the concert I walked up to the stage taking photos and the drummer threw me one of his drumsticks.  I gave it to Jacob my son.  He loves it.

How much more does our Father in heaven give to us?  Who can give more than God?

Sorry for bragging but I thought it was really cool.

    Robert Lowry, 1864

    ♫  ♫

Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod,
    With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

    Refrain

Yes, we’ll gather at the river,
    The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.

On the margin of the river,
    Washing up its silver spray,
We will talk and worship ever,
    All the happy golden day.

    Refrain

Ere we reach the shining river,
    Lay we every burden down;
    Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.

    Refrain

At the smiling of the river,
    Mirror of the Savior’s face,
Saints, whom death will never sever,
Lift their songs of saving grace.

    Refrain

Soon we’ll reach the silver river,
    Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
    With the melody of peace.

    Refrain

    "I've Always Loved You"

I don't know how to explain it
But I know that words will hardly do
    Miracles with signs and wonders
Aren't enough for me to prove to you

Don't you know I've always loved you
    Even before there was time
    Though you turn away
    I'll tell you still
Don't you know I've always loved you
    And I always will

Greater love has not a man
Than the one who gives his life to prove
    That he would do anything
And that's what I'm going to do for you
