    Would you be willing to give up U.S. souverenity to a United Nations control?  Do you think the world would be better off under a one world government using a global currency?  A world without borders and a sharing of economic and natural resources?

          I know, but I think this was the goal when religion first developed. Much easier to control a group if they all have the same morals and belief compared to them all having their different individual morals and beliefs.

      It's not a simple matter of sovereignty. Some things globalise naturally, to the general good (e.g. English as a universal second (or first) langauge, communication technology and the Internet). Some things need to be pushed along, but are worth pushing, like International Law, Human Rights, etc. There will always be the need for intra-community and inter-community organisation, which traditionally equate to local and central government. But the inter-community organisation might eventually be remodelled more along network lines, instead of pyramid style centralisation. The last thing we need is a 'world president'.

          I've been following the talks at Copenhagen. They appear to be going nowhere fast. Besides, an agreement among nations to do something to control carbon emissions is hardly giving up their sovereignty. There have been plenty of such agreements in the past involving a variety of topics from nuclear disarmament to protection of endangered species and various agreements wrt international plane flights, laws of the sea, etc. Nothing alarming. The advance of technology has required all kinds of international treaties and cooperation. And there will be more in the future.

        Contemplation is what I do in my spare time and it is great to read all the feedback.  I like questions that make me think. As for proposals how about Agenda 21 I only know what I have read on the subject which is not vast but a few articles.  I am disturbed by it though and it does make me contemplate questions such as this. I do enjoy taking advantage of my First ammendment rights while I still can.

      It matters not what I would do or want, the soverignty of this nation was signed over to a foreign power when the Congress and the President of the US ratified and signed the UN Charter.  The acclerated rate at which we are moving towards a Marxist, socialist society is probably best witnessed by the answer that you have received given this question.
      The lemmings that Americans have become are in lock step and there is no stopping them.

      I think you know that I have written a "hub" on this subject.
      If man is to survive as a species, a 1 world gov't will be its only hope.
      As fragmented as contemporay mankind is, the odds are that a 1 world gov't has no chance of being realized before it has suffered a population reducing catastrophe.
      Human population would, necessarily, HAVE TO BE, massively, reduced in number to be governable.
      That gov't would have to dedicated to the destruction of all facets of religion and Machiavellian in control, assuring itself that "it" (religion) could not rise again.
      The governing body would have to be devoted to the concept of the survival or the human species.
      At this moment in time, all that I have written above, has to be considered to be pure idealism to the max.

        This is a very scary scenario that you describe.

        It sounds more like it would be a world of total global dictatorship with no personal freedom.

        I would not even want to be a part of such a world.

          Yes, It would have to be such.
          Once a 1 world gov't was in control and all facets of resistance was destroyed, a universal movement to educate the remaining populace could begin.
          Genetic engineering would be utilized to create new human species that would be the future leaders of human life.
          The gov't would allow freedom to all who were dedicated to progress and human survival.
          It would take a few generations to realize the fruition of a society that functioned in concert to guarantee the viability of all extant life.
          Living on this planet could be paradise under the democratic rule of an elected gov't devoted to the success of the human species.

    I think the prospect of a single government controlling the world is a horrible prospect.
    The whole world sharing resources equally is nice to fantasize about but that will never happen.

    The very idea that the US would secede control to the United Nations is..odd. They're are toys, not the other way around.

    As far as a global government creating peace, it'd be quite the other way around. The more government the less freedom.

    A global power only ensures that when the tyrant gets into office and performs a coup--and it would be only a matter of time--you have less of a chance of escaping it.

    What if a Hitler were to get elected? Who would stop him then? No one. The worlds governments should work together for the greater good but to unify their power is only going to lead to a genocide, That i garentee.

    I think that there is a left/right paradigm that is used to divide people.

    There is also a deity discussion that further divides us.

    Then skin tone is used to separate us.

    The accumulation of wealth is used against us.

    The groups that lead these debates are all controlled by the same entities.
