Things to Look for in 2010

Updated on November 15, 2010

Goodbye 2009 Welcome 2010.

What to look for this year as far as technology is concern? As we bid farewell to 2009, another year with great hope beckons. The year 2009 was indeed an exciting year for almost all of us, as we are indeed treated with an array of exciting, ingenius and truly sophisticated devices that caught us in awe as we allowed these marvels have a grip on our very lives. Technology really made its presence felt especially in the field of internet. The social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter truly swept us with their usefullness and entertaining innovations. The Farmville craze along with the other online games available in Facebook took the world by storm. Moreover, Facebook now overtook Yahoo's Yahoo Mail as the chief rival of Google's Gmail in terms of worlwide use electroni-mail or the so called e-mail. On the other hand, Twitter took the online communications to greater heights as it becomes more accessible and convenient to use whether with a computer or with a latest version of mobile phones.

YouTube provided us with great video streaming experience from Obama's historic inauguration to Usain Bolt's remarkable record-shattering effort in the 100 meter dash in the World Championships held at Berlin, Germany.

Last year, many sophisticated, high-end, and truly powerful gadgets and devices emerged like the multiple megapixel cameras, memory devices that have great storing capabilities, and touch screen phones. With all of these great breakthroughs that took place we may consider the year 2009 as another banner year for information and technology.

With all of these great improvements in technology, what lies ahead of us in the near future specifically the year 2010? Will this year be as promising and productive as that of 2009? We hope it will, with our fingers crossed.

There are handful of great things in technology that we may look forward to this coming year, that is the 2010, which is also dubbed as the year of the Tiger:

  • The greater memory storage the better. - Before we are accustomed to the bulky 1.33 MB floppy disks which are now an extinct computer peripherals, but was an important piece of technology in the yesteryears since this were the ancestors of the storing device such as the flash drives that is ubiquitous in individual's storing need nowadays. Then we are forced to resize the fonts and our jpg images to make them compact enough to fit in with our floppy disks, but this are things of the past already as flash drives that comes in multi-gigabytes are readily available in almost all computer shops in every face of our planet, meaning we can now store more music, pictures and pertinent documents and movie video clips with our mobile flash drives (one of the Waterloo of flash drive however is its vulnerability to different viruses). It is speculated that these flash drive may evolve to the terra byte storage capacity. By the way, In between the floppy disk and the gigabyte flash drive comes the 256Mb flash drives.
  • The hard disks drives are also tipped make a significant improvement this year. Hard disks that can store terrabytes (about 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, a whooping number indeed ) will be launched this year (whoa, then what comes next peta or perhaps gazillions, hehehe prefixes - mega, micro, mill, giga, etc.-  already finds its usefullness nowadays and even the engineering notation).
  • Blue Tooth 3.0 - Even without cables you can transfer files from one medium to another "wirelessly" so as to speak. According to a research firm the Gartner, the bluetooth specification which is more powerful than its previous version has a faster speed at 480 megabits per second in close range and about 200 megabits per second at 10 meter distance. Blue Tooth 3.0 allows old devices to communicate with the new ones.
  • Mobile Computing - Mobile computing is stamping its class in becoming the most widely utilized application in business nowadays, from consumer mobile apps to B2E (business-tocomputer) and B2C (business to customer). Our mobile phones have grown to be very powerful as it allows you to get by with your business commitments and transactions even when you are not in the office.
  • Location Searching - Location sharing in your mobile phones seems to be more wider in scope now. With the phenomenal Where is Waldo Concept on its arsenal, Nokia is presently sizlling hot even as it launches its navigator phones, that includes map services in ovi.
  • Internet Television - Internet will forge a strong tandem with television sets, thanks to Hulu, Boxee, Apple Tv and NetFlix Roxu Box, this means we may both enjoy internet and television at the same time. This advancement in technology is expected to be part of the wave of the future that will be beneficial to to mankind.
