   Just in case no one has heard already, long time hubber John Welford passed away last week from cancer. His wife announced it on Medium.  He was known for the great hubs on the old train lines in the UK and related histories as well. Great comments on the forums too.  Tremendous writer and great conversationalist. He'll be missed.

   I read the account by his wife on Medium and it's a pity that he didn't have more time at the end following his diagnosis. None of us know or decide how our lives will finish, however.
   
   Although I never knew him, I feel a connection, as I used to live in Leicester, and was a librarian and a writer here and at the other place.

   I didn't know John (unless he wrote under a different username) but my thoughts are with his family.
   
   It's sad to think that some of us have been here so long that we'll be 'dropping-in-service' like old nags.
