I am doing fine. I'm checking in on the forums from time to time, while gathering information on more hubs.

I realized there are a lot more Celebrities that can be done, and found a list of the A-List Celebrities to work with. So, researching the stuff needed to make hubs.

I was initially doing A-List Celebrities I knew were really A-Listers and Gorgeous lol

What's up?  Last time I checked I was up to 5 feet 4 inches....that's how up I am.

Got the horse to the vet to get his teeth floated. First time he'd loaded in a trailer in years. He was a good boy...I'm relieved.

All is well in the tropics of SW Arkansas.

          1. donotfear profile image86
donotfearposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Getting a hores's teeth floated means they pry open his jaws with a device. Then they get a long, rough file....then they file down his teeth to make them smooth.  It's good for horses to have this done periodically because as they age, the teeth become uneven, crooked, etc. This causes them to be unable to chew their food properly, thus leading to digestive problems or weight loss.  Tah-dah!  Your equine lesson for the day.

            1. Rafini profile image82
Rafiniposted 15 years agoin reply to this

wow, interesting.  So, in other words, it's a preventative measure designed to extend the life of the horse.  Cool...so it must work, right?  Otherwise they wouldn't continue to do it.

um, no offense, but....Glad I'm not a horse!  (wouldn't want my jaws pried open with a device!! lol)

              1. Cagsil profile image70
Cagsilposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Actually, when you go to the dentist, you are using a "device" to keep your jaw open, while the dentist does their work. You use your mind(even though the thought of biting him a good one probably does cross your mind, but don't) as a device to keep your mouth open. lol

A horse cannot think or focus to keep their mouth open, thus the need to force them to do so. wink

Yes, it does create a healthier life for the horse. Scientists & archeologists that have uncovered horses that died many moons ago have found that many died from tooth absess.  If you think about it, horses in the wild don't live too long. So there you go.

hhmm, I need to remember to go out for walks.  gosh, I was such an active youngster I'm absolutely shocked at how lazy I've become as an adult.  But, it's part of my current goals - to improve my life - to change my lifestyle back to what it was a loooong time ago! lol

So, I'm adding it to my schedule!  Take a walk, first thing in the morning, around the block is good enough (for now) big_smile

  32. Cagsil profile image70
    Cagsilposted 15 years ago

I have multiple paths to take. I have several small blocks around me, that I can pick and choose which one, based how long I want to walk. smile

  33. Rafini profile image82
    Rafiniposted 15 years ago

I've thought about that too...go to the park and take a walk.  If I had a bike I could ride my bike around the lake (took an hour when I was a teen, don't know how long it would take me to re-condition myself to be able to make it)

I want to be more active but feel like I forgot how...if that makes sense?

    1. Cagsil profile image70
Cagsilposted 15 years agoin reply to this

First, recognize you are not the same age anymore. Then, make sure you take a slow pace at start. Pushing yourself or your body, without having direct knowledge of the impact, could wipe you out and make you even more lazy in the future.
It makes sense, but it is a shame that you seem to have forgot how to be more active. I'm sure it isn't the fact that you forgot, but do not have energy or mindset to be active. Unfortunately, the only person who can change that is you. hmm

      1. Rafini profile image82
Rafiniposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Cagsil - what you say makes sense more and more. smile

Yeah, I realize I haven't forgotten but merely 'lack the energy or drive' to be active.  And, unfortunately, I realize I'm the only person who can change that fact for myself. lol  Doesn't make it any easier!  lol

So, you're saying, go for it but take it easy and don't expect too much too soon.  Just like the doctors say. hmm  lol

Ohma gave me a different link (I think) a couple days ago, but my son has my laptop and I'm on his computer  lol   so I searched for smileys and this site was one of the choices.

My class, my group(!) wants to screw me over for being depressed and not as social as they are.

We got 193 our of 200 possible points and all they want to do is blame me for not getting 200.  HELL, I"m the one who came up with the creative idea we used & I also came up with the idea of each of us discussing in terms of our own weaknesses with mine being social, in a social setting, and I'm NOT SOCIAL!!! and I INFORMED them of this the VERY first day!!  I asked for their Guidance and received NOTHING from them.  Now it's all my fault we didn't get a 'perfect' score????

Yeah, I'm not happy at all.  Not at all.  I felt great yesterday when the instructor had no criticisms to give us and said our group presentation was well done.  He didn't even feel he could do  individual reviews because of how well it went.  (we presented in the form of a Radio Talk Show, like Delilah, 4 of us responding to issues presented by a 'live studio audience' - we each resopnded to our own weaknesses in order to 'learn by teaching'.  7 Habits of Highly Effective People)

Sounds like my family! lol  We play musical computers half the time. Thanks for the link!

That's totally crappy.  Them, I mean.  I think the stupid people who don't understand depression are just ruining the world.

Maybe that's a bit harsh.  I know I've been one of those stupid people at various times in my life.  But I hope I never made other people feel they were to blame for it.

You actually sound like you're being very generous with them.  I think they deserve a whole boxful of exploding smileys.

So I guess the others in your group think they know more than the instructor?  How dare they?  That's just garbage for them to have that attitude.

Actually - after you go through your totally justified fuming, maybe you could find a way to turn this back on them.  If this class (or project) has to do with the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.......well.......

Isn't that book geared towards people who "work with people" in various ways, especially people who are business leaders and in management?  (I don't mean geared exclusively towards such people, just a lot.)  Anyway, those people in your group have actually just given a concrete example of how NOT to work with other people effectively.

They should (in order to be "highly effective") instead be congratulating you for your creative idea, congratulating you for getting out of your comfort zone and stretching yourself, and congratulating you for helping the group get a nearly perfect grade.  What's wrong with them?  I think they need to be on the receiving end of some constructive criticism.

Thanks, Aficionada.  lol  Next time I'll do more explosions!  That sounds like a great idea!!  lol

Funny you should mention that, turning it back on them....big_smile  we had to 'grade' each other throughout the project and then after the presentation write a couple paragraphs about what went right and what could be improved within the group....big_smile  yeah....I started off by saying, (ahem)

Throughout the presentation I thought we were doing an excellent job of showing how not to follow the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

and then I listed all 7 habits and what I did or didn't do and what the other members did or didn't do and I highlighted my concerns about whether or not our presentation would work.  I didn't know what else to do because throughout the later planning stages I felt completely lost.  I had no idea what anyone was doing or why including myself - I only had a vague idea of what I was supposed to do and then when I did it I was told it wasn't right!

What I mean to say is - I listed one thing for each habit, not one thing for everyone for each habit.  roll  lol  Wow, for a minute I thought I sounded like a stalker or something  lol

            Sooo  Frustrating!!

Woo-hoooo!!  WELL DONE!  Way to go, Girlfriend!!!!!!!!

I guess great minds think alike, right? wink

That had to be infuriating and deflating at the same time.  I don't know whether there will be any other opportunities to pass these thoughts along to them, or even if you would feel up to it.  But I think it is something that would be valuable to stress to them again, if you can - either orally or if there is any sort of written group self-evaluation or anything similar.  Some people (like the group) need to hear something multiple times before they "get it."

They need to understand that it is important - when working in groups (I guess I should say in this type of group) - to be sure everyone understands what they are supposed to do and, if possible, why; and it can also be helpful to have at least a general idea of what the others in the group are doing.  I'm pretty mad at those people right now.

Well, yeah!  That's putting it mildly, I would have to say.

You certainly deserve to give yourself some pats on the back for all the good things you did throughout the project and presentation. You jumped some pretty big hurdles, didn't you? and quite beautifully, too.

I don't know those people and I don't know how valuable their opinion is to you.  But just remember that some people in the world will find a way to find fault with others, no matter what the truth is.  I got a big boost one time when someone pointed out to me (after someone had said something cutting to me):  "Consider the source."  If the group acted or spoke brutally or unkindly towards you, that says more about them than it does about you.

All I have to do is not allow it to go to my head... I guess I have a tendancy to do that. hmm   But, it isn't going to my head to feel good about myself and what I've accomplished, now is it?  Just consider the source.  smile  Is it a valuable source?    I get it!  lol

I have to remind myself multiple times (especially about some people I know) to Consider the Source.  I'll admit I have found that sometimes it helps me keep perspective on myself too.  Like this:...

I know that I can be my own worst critic, so when I feel like criticizing myself, if I remind myself to Consider the Source, it can help me to remember that often I am harsh and unrealistic towards myself.  Sometimes that can help me to temper my self-criticism.  On the other hand...

I know that I can be my own worst critic, so when I feel like complimenting myself about something, if I remind myself to Consider the Source, I can remember that my self-compliment may have more value than the words of someone else who doesn't really understand what I've been through.

I hope tomorrow is a much better day for you, and I hope you will sleep well tonight.  I'd better say goodnight - maybe we'll meet again tomorrow.  big_smile big_smile

    Hey Rafini,

For what it's worth, I think you did an excellent job, if your group received 193 out of a possible 200 for score. That's damn good!

Remember, perfection can only be obtain on an individual basis and only for a brief moment. It is 100x harder to do it in a group. smile big_smile

Edit: Awesome job! smile Congrats! smile

thanks Cagsil.  I'm just feeling like sh!t right now....been crying all day.  I just can't get over it, it's the same thing as before!  Even though my social skills have improved a bit, its the same thing!  The same sh!tty situation, ya know?

One group member thinks win-lose, took control and appointed herself the final decision maker, and is now accusatory toward me.
      Another has a blaming attitude.
the fourth one was out today.

      (btw - I'm non-confrontational....lol)

I'm thinking of writing out my thoughts on how the score should be divided and why.  I already said I'm ok with the lowest score, but I didn't feel it should be a drastic difference.  What I think would be fair is something like 49, 49, 48, 47.

I just don't know why these things keep bothering me so much.

      1. Cagsil profile image70
Cagsilposted 15 years agoin reply to this

        You're quite welcome. smile
I am going to tell you why? But, I want you to accept it for whatever it is worth.

The reason you let things keep bothering you is because you hate failure and you are too hard on yourself, each and every time, you fail to accomplish.

You could accomplish 20 things, but fail to do one and the 20 before it would no longer matter as much as the failed attempt.

You place too much value on failing, when you only need to accept the fact(really accept it) you are indeed human and will fail from time to time. Acceptance that you will make mistakes will lessen the impact of making mistakes. Because, they are expected.

No one is perfect and no one can be but for a moment in time. A person can create some sort of perfection, but it can never be maintained, striving for it, causes depression and low self-esteem, unless you can create 100x more positive effects to offset the one mistake that does happen.

        That's my thoughts on it.

        1. Rafini profile image82

smile  excellent thoughts.  Ones I'm sure I've heard before and I know I've told  myself....I think I've even posted a comment in these forums saying "Nobody's perfect".  So how is it I can understand the concept yet fail to implement it?  (sorry, kind of a rhetorical question....)

You do say something new to me - I hate failure.  I think I knew that, but didn't really believe (?) it.  Too much value on failing....so, how much of a value does failing deserve?  Obviously less, lol, but....how to determine how much less?  (sorry, same as above...lol...kind of a rhetorical question)

Thanks for listening, I really appreciate it. big_smile smile

Cagsilposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Because, you are not consciously trying to.
Well, if care to know- whenever I fail to do something, I then assess my actions and review steps that occurred, and look to see if there was an avenue I missed. If I don't see the avenue, then I tell myself that I need to learn to be more aware, because obviously even upon review I am not aware of it. Hence, I learn to be more open and clearer about the steps I take.

When you start a project- if you cannot picture the end result, then you will not see the end result or will have poor results.

You didn't fail(great score was achieved) in your attempt in your project, you were unaware of what the project entailed. So, you set yourself up to fail, before you even got started. The 7 Habits of Effective People has to be alive in your action in order for you present it to someone else. If you do not have the habits, then it means you do not understand completely.

            1. Rafini profile image82
Rafiniposted 15 years agoin reply to this

So you're saying I'm expecting myself to produce 'perfect' results therefore when I fail there's too much emphasis on it because it wasn't 'perfect'?  My god!  I would have thought by now I'd have gotten passed this problem!!  I worked pretty hard at it before becoming an adult and it seems like my entire adult life has been one huge failure after another....

Assess actions of failure...in what way?  Like, through journaling?  So...what I should be doing right now is evaluating my actions and reviewing the steps that brought me to my actions and see if there was something I missed.  (brainstorm for all available options?)  Then, if I don't find a missed option, remind myself to be more aware.  I can try this. smile

You summarized well except it was a group effort to set up for failure but I'm not believing it was intentional.  It was due to their ignorance and disbelief that I was lacking in social interactions - even after I told them.

You are right about the civility.  I was reading in the paper the other day, that in the UK men are afraid to give up their seat to women on the underground trains because they are likely to get their heads snapped off.  It's a shame.  I am always say thankyou if anyone offers me a seat or opens the door.  And now I find myself sounding like my mother - which is rather sad.

Actually, if you really stop and think about it, a lot of what our parent said has come true to an extent. However, even their limited capacity stunted our expansion, with regards to knowledge and wisdom, such as discerning the truth from things.

This is something I was never told as a child- *you must discern truth.

My family has always seen truth as relative to what they have learned and experienced, instead of adding in other factors.

It is funny how we sound like our parents. I always get a chuckle out of it, when I am reminded of something I was told by them. I do not find it sad, just sort of funny. smile

I can't think of the exact quote but Philip Larkin wrote about how children hold their parents in high esteem until they grow up and find them out and then they never forgive them.  That was  my experience with my parents (foster parents)and so I never like to sound like them. However, I do and you're right sometimes it's funny.
