   I want to give you a heads up about January's Money Grows on Hubs contest - it's a contest in the Personal Finance category and is an EXCELLENT way to beef up on your Hubbing skills.
   
   The prizes:

   And here's the cool thing- you can get started now! Just be sure to save your entries unpublished, and then publish them throughout the contest in January.

      Hi Simone, Very excited here about the contest! I had a couple questions about the weekly and daily topics, as I look ahead here. 
      
      It shows on week 1, Getting out of debt, then the seven days of that week have seven different topics.  Day 3 of week 1 is Student loans.  So for day 3 of week one, can we write in general about student loans?  Or do all five possible hubs for that day also have to tie in getting out of debt, and student loans both?  Day 7 is tax and taxes... can we write just about tax and taxes for a qualifying hubs, or does it have to tie in the weekly topic of getting out of debt and taxes to qualify as a hub for the contest?

         To answer those questions:
         
         You can submit ANYTHING within the Personal Finance category on any day for it to count.  The special topics are only for bonus points. 
         
         If you write a Hub about Student Loans on the Student Loans day, then you'll get three bonus points in the Daily Drawing.  You can only get three bonus points a day, so there's no point in writing five Hubs on student loans if you don't want to
         
         Weekly themes are just general themes to which daily topics are related.  You don't have to write about that theme in your submissions.

         Yep!  Though you can easily publish it at noon (PT) today and it will still count perfectly for the contest, and be entered in the daily drawing
         The extra entries are just... extra! And the REAL prizes are for the Hubs that win for quality!

      We're going to roll out a lot of helpful guides to make it easier to get started - our contest judges are going to share a lot of personal finance writing tips in the HubPages Blog throughout the month.
      A lot of it really involves doing your own research and sharing your notes in a Hub.  The approach I take is to address a financial issue that I feel I need to learn about, and then I just publish my findings. 
      It kills two birds with one stone!

      Your exams don't last for two months, do they? If they're now, you can just wait to start writing until January, when the contest already starts.  If your exams are in January, you can write your entries now and save them unpublished until the contest startes

   I'm really excited about this contest. Part of the reason I joined HubPages is because I read so many personal finance blogs and feel I have a lot I could contribute. Now I have some inspiration and deadlines!
   
   Quick question, though: in the rules it says something about posting between 12pm PT to 11:59am PT to count for that days categories? Which day exactly are those times valid for? Do I have until noon to get today's up? Or do I have until noon tomorrow to get today's up?

      This is taken from the contest rules:
      
      Contest begins at 12:01 P.M. (PT) on January 3rd, 2011, and ends at 12:00 noon (PT) on January 31st, 2011
      
      As I'm half way round the world from Pacific standard time, I also get confused about when the "day" begins and finishes.  I use the following link to help convert it for me.

    It's great to know about this contest a month in advance because hubbers get enough time to create multiple hubs, save them, and work on them before the contest begins. I guess there's no excuse for hubbers to not earn some money in 2011. I can publish hubs anytime. I even write hubs from my cell phone in class when my professor starts repeating himself lol.

    I have been on Hubpages for about a year now but have never entered a contest. I'm easily intimidated and believe me with all the talented writers on this site it isn't hard for me to get cold feet. Well, I decided that it's time for me to take the plunge, hold my nose, and get those cold tootsies wet. I think I have a good idea for my first personal finance hub and will start working on it tonight!!                       My best wishes to you too dear. I have not published a single hub in the December month and I have not moderated 496 comments on my hubs till now. I have not slept several nighs. You need to sacrifice something to achieve your goals. I need to stick to the contest for now.
                      
                      Also, the reason I have started so early for the contest is due to my daughter's admission in a nursery school in January 2011. I will not be able to contribute too much in January month that's why I am preparing in advance for my busy month of January. Nursery admissions here in New Delhi are very very tough. There are over 2 lakh candidates for 15000 seats in best 50 schools of Delhi, so it is again a contest for me to get my daughter's admission in the best school in central Delhi where I live.

    This will be an awesome competition. So many people struggle with their finances - it will be a great way for them to stop and take a good hard look at the things they spend their money on, while providing good advice to others.

    Hey, for those of you who are writing ahead of this contest... I'd like to do the same.
    
    Here's the difference, I know nothing about finance. I am a satirist and general goofball, so, as usual, I intend to make fun of responsible financial behaviors.
    
    Unfortunately, I don't know enough about finance to really make fun of it. SO, if you would like a link to your hub (when it comes out) in MY hub, you can get that, and some fun-based notoriety by sending me some of what you are going to put up so I can ruin it.  Here's an example of what I mean:
    
    You will end up writing something like this in your hub because you know what you are talking about: "It's important to save money because you never never know what is going to happen in the future."
    
    I will write: "Another popular misnomer about saving money is to SAVE. Some financial experts like YOUR NAME will tell you to 'save for the future because you never know what's going to happen' (LINK).'  Well, I think that's silly. If you buy a crystal ball, you CAN know what is going to happen in the future. Or you can get Tarot cards and read your future that way. Ten bucks and you are back in control. How's that for an investment? Now you can use the rest of your money for fun stuff like buying booze and hookers.  Don't listen to YOUR NAME, he's no fun."

       Thats phenomenal Soni.  And I am sure your daughter will get admission in the best of schools though I agree the competition for admission in delhi is cut throat and the fees are exorbitantly high.
       
       But you will do it and I really admire your discipline and dedication.  Keep it up.
