Does the weather influence your mood?

I always find that when it's sunny, I'm a much happier person and what not, and when it rains I'd rather spend the day in bed. I was wondering if any of you had similar experiences?

Yes, the weather greatly influences my mood. Who likes dragging their tail through muddy and rainy days, for example?
Right now, it is bright and sunny outside, with a cool breeze ... it's gorgeous and the Spring Spirits are dancing. It certainly makes me happy.
    All the best!

yes, most of the time. when its sunny I feel happy and active, when it is raining or cold I don't feel like to do anything. I know you shouldn't depends on the weather. But that's just me.

Yes. When it is raining hard, I'm a little depressed. On a light rainy day, I normally smile because it is my kind of weather. Sunny kind of makes me down because of the heat.

Absolutely yes. When it is cloudy I am feeling rather low. It also depends on atmospheric pressure, when it is low I have low energy.

Rainy season and cloudy weather with some cold wind can always turn me on for anything wink

eh depends. if you're pregnant anything influences your mood. if your not, that sunny day can turn sour if soemthing rubs you the wrong day.
i like rain, you know the drizzly kind. freaky storms make me worried and jumpy and confrontational.
so sometimes i would say yes.

Weather definitely influences my mood. When it is warm and sunny I feel happy and want to be outdoors and be active. When it is windy and raining I just want to have a long soak in the bath and stay indoors all cozy.

Without a doubt. Sun has a lot to do with that. I suffer from depression and one of the top ways to help your body cope is sun light. Winter and rainy days make that hard. That's why I have a sun lamp. It actually is a medical principle. Its kind of similar to the studies done that prove that places like Alaska whose winters are extremely dark and long have higher rates of depression and suicide. I guess we share something in common with plants after all.

For sure, if it's raining outside I would feel gloomy and tired and you feels like it makes the whole day longer. But when it's dry and lovely outside, you look forward to going out for a walk and sitting in the garden for a hour or two.

I believe firmly that weather influences moods. Here in the South, where we have been experiencing the worst heat in history, people are far more aggressive. The police state that there is a clear link between aggression and hot weather. I know I am not a happy person once we hit the 90s.

    Yes.

I think as people we always have outside influences that help us change our mood.  But it also really depends on the people we hang out with too.

It's really interesting because weather is something that all people can talk about with anybody.

When it's a raining and cloudy day, I feel like just sleeping in bed too, but I have to work, so I go into work, and all of my co-workers talk about gong to sleep.

    It's really funny.

Rain in the night gives a nice cozy nights sleep. Rain puts me in a great mood if i have to just work indoors.

Sunny is fine if not for the humid and too much heat.

Being Bipolar I even moved from Holland to Spain, since the rainy weather in Holland influenced my moods in a negative way. Even the changes in spring, summer, autumn and winter effected my moodswings extremely.

In Spain I can rely on the sun for at least 300 days a year and it hardly rains. The winters are mild and my stability only grew, thanks to the sunny weather and lots of other strategies I apply.

Weather greatly influences my mood. As I am already a big moody person, weather often swings my mood in funny ways.

Once in my class (I am a part-time teacher), I was a bit pissed off; it was a sunny day outside, and I was angry on the students who didn't do their homework properly, I was scolding them that they don't pay enough attention on studies and suddenly clouds came and it turned out to be an over-cast weather and I started to smile and joking and laughing with the same students. hahaha. That was weird.

Absolutely!  When the weather is warm and sunny, I am almost filled with energy. However when gloomy and rainy, I tend to be more quiet, and less focused on whatever it is I should be doing. My mood definitely varies with the  changes of seasons.

There is a subtle influence on my mood.  I am more apt to enjoy a sunny day if I am already in a good mood.  If I am in a bad mood, a rainy day certainly isn't going to help.  On the other hand, if I am in a good mood on a rainy day, then I will be happy to be stuck inside to work on one of the millions of projects I have going on.

I would like to think it doesn't but whenever it is dark and gloomy outside I feel more down and lethargic.  The sunshine tends to bring more smiling and optimism.

Being I live in a sunshine state..no snow..(but do miss it on occassion)..I find that rainy days I LOVE to clean house...do laundry ( the smell of fresh linens fills the air) In doing this it gives me more time when it is a sunny day that I can be outside by the pool..so the weather has an influenece on my mood..always have something to look forward to so no time to feel depressed or out of sink...and nothing like a rainy day after you have cleaned..brew a cup of herbal tea and enjoy a good book on the porch....with my cat ( spooky) purring at my side.

Yes it affects my mood. I hate winter or dull days. They make me feel so depressed. It gets worse round Christmas time for me. Think the short days and coldness brings back bad times for me. I am not too bad in the summer but if we have dull days with rain it makes me feel miserable. x

The sun on my back always makes me feel better also. It's all to do with the levels of Seratonin in the brain I reckon. Rainy dull weather does nothing for our mood which is why people suffer with SAD ( seasonal affective disorder ) Medical experts suggest getting a light box to help alleviate the symptoms.

Yes! It hasn't rained in over a month where i live, by a dirt road. Dust hangs in the air and the plants have withered. Every day I step out into the oppressive, beating sun and grit my teeth, wishing it would rain. It's dismal.  I realize that you mean does it influence my mood in general, and to that I say yes.

  38. Gloshei profile image61
    Glosheiposted 13 years ago

It certainly does, when the sun shines it makes me feel a lot happier. It must be the warmth and the brightness you just feel alive.
When it is damp and miserable well that reflects on my mood as well, even if it's not raining I don't feel much like doing anything outside, so that gets me going indoors instead.  It makes me want to cook.

Yes, it does. Our bodies are composed mostly of water. Water easily influenced by the environment. Just like when people consume alcohol, drug, etc., the human body temperature changes that can affect on our behavior (mood). Meditation works to regulate body temperature.

I am one who is seriously influenced by the weather. Too many days in a row of cloudy drizzling weather, and I can get pretty down emotionally. But when the sun is out and shining daily, I am in very high spirits. Some folks require a form of "light-therapy" during winter months to keep them emotionally stable.

When the sun is out people are friendlier and talk more. When the weather is bad people are more likely to want to hurry out of the wet or cold and do not hang around talking.

Bright light days make me happy. Dark grey days make me sad

Though I like both weathers sunny day and rainy day.

But When I am sad I like rainy weather.

However, rain is my favorite. It makes me feel calm, relaxed and reflective. My gears slow down to a nice pace.

  50. mysteriousmaven profile image59
    mysteriousmavenposted 13 years ago

    Yes, it often does. smile

Not just the changes in sun or rain, but I think the temperature changes my mood a lot. I feel really sleepy and sluggish when it's a cold day, even if it doesn't rain.

If the weather's too hot, it makes me feel a bit tired as well, so I guess both extremes are no good for me. tongue
