Ten dollars, do you hear me HubPages? I have a crisp Sawbuck if you can let me block politics/religion/whatever other god awful subforum is spamming the HP forums with all the leftover comments CNN.com. All I want is to talk about is HubPages-related topics and maybe see gifs of cats falling down in a safe but adorable manner.
Make it happen. Alexander Hamilton wants to pay you a visit.
Why not just exercise self control, and not participate in said forums that bother you? That's what I do.
I don't! Check to see how many posts I make about what Obama did this week! I'd rather not see them blot out information I'm looking for on the front page with borderline hate speech, none the less!
TEN DOLLARS HUBPAGES.
Yes, but it's irritating to have to scroll through all the rubbish on the "latest posts".
Were you around in the days when the forums were split, so you could scroll through the all the latest posts in the Hub-related threads without having to look at the topic-based ones? What a treat that was!
So say we all.
I don't think we'll be doing this in the next two months, but the idea is looked upon quite favorably at HubPages HQ. Believe me.
I made a suggestion a couple of months ago that forums should basically be split into two (with tabs or something); one would be the default tab and would be all the HP related community topics, the other would be everything else...
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/108967
As I said at the time, I've suggested the same idea several times and it's always fallen on deaf ears. Here's hoping...
Wow.
Wonder what price y'all would like to extract from someone who'd like to blot out all the threads that ask such things as "how many times should couples sex in a week?" and "would you go to a gay wedding?" and etc..........
But Brenda... where would YOU post then?
I can ask you both the same kind of question.
Where would YOU post then, if all the religious and political threads were gone?
And no use acting like you don't rotate toward those, because you do.
Clear now? LOL.
LMAO, I do indeed.
But I'm not hypocritical enough to represent myself as indignantly angry that they exist...
Am I?
Now I'm clear. How about you?
Any trace of my being "indignant" was spurred by the proposed idea that freedom of religious speech and political speech could rightly have a price tag attached to it.
There's nothing hypocritical about my ideals nor my posts. Yours, however...........that's a different story.
I thought you'd be all for civil rights. But no?
Pleasantville must sound good to you?
It's nothing to do with freedom of speech, it's people having the choice to ignore threads they don't want to see. If I did not see the religious and political threads, I would not comment on them. Yes, I'm weak
Indeed. That I can sympathize with.
Aren't we all?!
That's why we put our money in banks for them to hold; it's why we let the IRS hold our refunds instead of saving the money ourselves; it's why we don't wanna be told there's "right" and "wrong"; it's the "why" of a lot of things! Temptation. Wow. The world is full of it.
I have been the world's worst for commenting when a provocative title has caught my eye. The hours that I've wasted in these forums are my fault, no one else's. I've trusted banks in the past, but no more. I gave a traveler who knocked at my door £5 because I felt so sorry for her kids; her husband and his mates later kicked my back door in and burgled me. Was that my fault, no. But I invited that family into my life when I gave to them. That's how they see it.
But the point I'm trying to make is, it's my responsibility who and what comes into my life. I don't have to respond, especially when I know that how I feel and what I think will not make one difference to how others behave. We are responsible for ourselves, all of us, we can't keep blaming our weaknesses on others.
I agree we need to be responsible for our own weaknesses!
As far as what we allow into our lives, yes, that too.
(Aside from those who intrude in our lives, like that group of burglars; that's their responsibility, not yours.)
I know it's their responsibility and I know that what they did was wrong and that I didn't deserve it But I've finally realized (at the age of 46!) that we cannot change the way that others think, or feel. We can only try to emphasize (horrible word) accept, then finally respect, in some way or on some level- even when we do not agree. The debate is often useless, only the acceptance and respect for the views/lifestyle of another bring harmony to our lives.
Do you actually buy the stuff you type Brenda?
Just curious...
Stop acting like a conservative Christian is a rare thing.
It's not rare at all.
It's been the American way for a long long time; it's what our laws and Constitution were originally based on.
My ideals are not unique; they are mainstream. Just because the liberal agenda wants to replace them with something "new" (called new but actually old paganist ways) doesn't mean I'm gonna accept a label that some are trying to force upon me via outright or hidden insinuations.
Now, if it's rare for you, then I'd suggest you actually take a deeper look at the people around you, even if it means you have to go outside your circle of house, town, or whatever environment surrounds you. You are curious and want to learn new things, aren't you?
Conservatism just seems rare in the forums because most of those vocal here lean left, (some almost topple over). If you live on the east coast, left coast, in most major cities, or listen much to mainstream media, you get the same thing so it is easy to get that impression. I suppose I am guilty of contributing to the perception as well since more often than not, rather than contribute anymore to the discussions I simply roll my eyes, bite my tongue and move on.
Regarding the OP, I wouldn't mind if they made it easier for folks who want to sort and filter forums...just leave them available for those who want them.
Thanks for confirming, bBerean. Yep, the liberal activists simply out-holler the conservatives usually.
I wouldn't feel guilty if I were you. We all have to pick our battles. Sometimes we "live to fight another day", and sometimes we jump in headfirst. It's up to individual discretion.
I agree with your line about making it easier to sort and filter forums while leaving them available to Hubbers. I just don't think that's their underlying motivation nor intent.
I would ask for a refund. It is just the two categories that are the issue. Not all topics.
edit: Or should I say...I just put a stop on that check. This is not what I was looking for.
I was very sad the day the forum filter ceased working. Too bad it was too costly for the person who made it to keep it up.
I think you just struck a new revenue chord with HubPages - did you see their post today about special options we can now purchase?
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/111166
I'm assembling a handful of questions for Simone - she's the best bargain in the list. I'll even throw in a coupon for some sexy tea from Whole Foods, so I can go to the top of her list.
@Len,
You may want to make it Australian dollars, they are worth more than US Dollars
Hey again y'all!
I misspoke the first time I responded- we already have a ticket in the queue for implementing this!
Our plan is to break the Forums into three sections:
1. Official Announcements
2. Community
3. Topics
It might take us a while to implement this, but we're on it!
Good plan! Thanks for letting us know, Simone.
Yay! That's great news Simone! Thanks so much!
Yay! Can we block certain topics? I'm very tired of the posts bashing (pick a religion or political group).
Maybe we could just note those "bashing" topics with a yellow star so you would know to quickly scroll past them with your eyes averted.
hmmm, maybe it should be a red scythe, I think the yellow star has already been tried.
"geesh
GA
I would love for HP to hide the religion and politics topics away somewhere! The people who feel compelled to post in those sections will find them come Hell or high water, then they can bookmark them.
Okay, twenty dollars.
edit: I'd also like to block my own threads too, thanks in advance.
im dying dying dying please you are killing me what will it take hubpages
cant see to type blood coming from eyes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Just CAN'T resist..................C'MON, you KNOW you want to POST................DON'T DENY IT, YIELD, YIELD to the TEMPTATION.............You have NOTHING to lose.......Well, maybe your SOUL............
Love the idea of segregating official announcements from community.
Since we are putting in our wish lists -- is it possible to further segregate out community
"questions/concerns" from hubbers' hangout type threads?
As weary as some are of logging on and witnessing the great liberal/conservative and
Christian/atheist fistfights, it is equally wearying to wade throught a constant
stream of "Can you really make money here?" "Why is my traffic tanking?" "New here, help me!" threads. These are all legitimate and worthy.
But to be honest, too often slow me down from getting in there and sparring with Brenda!!
What I can't figure out is why anyone is reading a thread they loathe. Ive posted on several of those threads and I don't even read them. (Of course that may be obvious from my responses.)
I like it how it is, that's why I come here.
And to torture the atheists.....
Freeform discussions needs to be moved to the topics section.

Sorry for the inconvenience- but that's what I just saw. HubPages staff, Jason Menayan, who runs another account called 'livelonger', just posted here in the link below, to save the Hubs from sinking??? Hah!I quote forum rules- "Multiple Accounts: While we don't prohibit having more than one...

New people are always welcome on this site, but they need to understand that this is not a site like Facebook. HP is a community of writers who have come here to hone their skills and perhaps earn a few dollars. If your only goal is to show up out of the blue, produce nothing, but spend your...

I believe this has been addressed before but can we please revisit it. I have very little interest in the religion and political forum threads yet they seem to occupy 75%+ of the latest activity. It's an inconvenience to have to browse through Jesus this and Obama that just trying to read on topics...

I read both forum entries and answers/questions entries but the two features seem to overlap. Many of the questions asked in "answers" are technical questions asked by hubbers about HP. Some elicit long threads of answers just like in the forums. Since the "questions/answers"...

Very weird, but for the last few days the option to go back a page no longer works if I am currently on a forum and trying to leave it to return to a non-forum page I visited previously. In fact the best I seem to be able to achieve is to go back to the first page I entered the forum on, but not to...

I just noticed that there are advertisements underneath the threads in the forums. Is that normal?
