So I publish another featured hub and my hubber score drops again!

   For months I published no hubs and my hubber score sat around 96, in the last month I published three hubs, all of which are featured and each time I published one my hubber score dropped by two points, it's now down to 90. Is this how HP rewards us for our hard work? Correct me if I'm wrong but won't my hubs stop being featured if my hubber score drops below 80? Should I keep publishing hubs and if I do will my hubber score keep plunging? It would be nice to hear from an admin person on this matter. Since Simone left, I've noticed that admins don't really take part in forum discussions like Simone did.

      I am wondering if you mean Profile score or Hub Score?  Personally I think that profile scores should be abolished from the site.

         I completely agree, sallybea. Profile/Hubber scores have caused too much confusion - and even conflict - for long enough.
         Personally, I only worry about Hub scores. Of course, at time of posting, I only have one Hub published

      I try not to focus on the hubber score, but I tend to check it out from time to time.  Mine dropped dramatically in the last couple of hours - I published a hub.  And I was slightly disappointed, but that's how's it goes.  I view it as a reflection of our quality of content and ability as a writer.

         Not necessarily so, literal, which is why it's sooooo confusing sometimes. For the most part, hubber score stabilizes but you never know what the algorithm will do depending on the day, season, Google update, wind direction, or increased hubber activity (new published hubs) on the site.
         
         I was at 100 for what seemed forever. I recently published a poem hub which was unfeatured for quality. Even after editing and becoming featured within hours, my hubber score never went back up to where it was. Did the quality of my subdomain change? No. Did I stop being active in the community? No. But a combination of activity (???) made the algorithm change my hubber score. It's part of the game. What goes up, must come down.
         
         So sleepylog, don't fret, it will rise again . . . and maybe fall again . . . and rise again. Focus on consistency in producing quality hubs and community involvement.

      Hi Sleepylog.  I'm sorry you're frustrated about Hubber Score.  We have worked really hard to stabilize it and make it more meaningful.  It has been a part of the HubPages culture since our founding, and we think that it does a fairly good job of reflecting a Hubber's account.  You can find out more about what goes into Hubber Score in our Learning Center.  Personally, I don't pay much attention to mine, but I understand the frustration and the reason you care about it.   
      
      I noticed that your last two Hubs are Editor's Choice (well done!), so I predict that your Hubber Score will continue to climb as you write more of these high-quality Hubs.  Your Hubber Score doesn't influence your Featured status, but Luis is right, if it is below 85 it does change the way your links are followed.  In most cases, this doesn't matter if you are inserting links for the benefit of your reader.  (One of the reasons that we instituted this rule was to deter spammers.)  I hope that answers your questions and puts you at ease a bit.  Let me know if you have more questions.  Have a great day!

         It's funny really, because mine was 99. I haven't changed a thing, and now it seems to be about to drop below 85. It's a real shame as I upkeep my material quite often and if this effects my links, I wish there were a clear way for me to avoid it.

      Here is a perfect example of why I have every right to be LIVID and you do to. This guy has ZERO HUBS! NONE! - http://eizzy.hubpages.com/ -  We both have the same score of 77 after being barely 4 points ahead of him at 81! ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME? TIED? Then +4 POINTS!! HE DOESN'T EVEN WRITE!
      Go Google 'sjs' and there is one my hubs 6th on the search behind WIKIPEDIA, MAYO CLINIC, YOUTUBE, SJS OFFICIAL SUPPORT PAGE and I've been there for over a year. HOW ABOUT SOME CREDIT FOR THAT!
      So Google search "i could have died." I come up TWICE in the Top 10 out of about 80 possibilities. You are SO insulting to me, HubPages! Yes, I'm yelling! How dare you!

   Your hubber score is not worth worrying about, sleepylog. The only times I have a score of 100 is when I am not actively publishing new hubs. Publish a new hub and my score will invariably drop.
   
   Your reward for hard work is the money you make. Keep an eye on your earnings, not your hubber score.

      Actually your hub score does matter depending on where it sits. If you link to external sites these links become no follow at a score under 85. Reduce further down and other issues come into play.

         If my outbound links become no-follow, it does not affect me in any way whatsoever.
         
         If I am trying to build a link network to improve rankings on a different website, I might care. But in the scope of HubPages - that doesn't matter at all.
         
         Dropping below...70 I think...affects your placement within HubPages - but you really have to try to drop below 70 (or stay below 70 if you are new).
         
         So while I won't deny that it does affect things..I still stand by my statement that....it is completely useless. People worrying about whether they're 74 or 99 are worrying about things that are taking away from what they should actually be focusing on.

   Your hubber score has nothing to do with featured or not featured. It is frustrating and can drive you crazy. I published a hub and my score went up. Then it went right back down in a few days. It is figured automatically. Stay active on site and keep writing. Good luck.

   New hub have lower scores than mature hubs, and your overall score is based on an average of your hub scores plus some other stuff.  So yes, if you have a smallish number of hubs, publishing a new hub  will make your score go down for a while.

      I second that. It can really be frustrating. With time you can improve your new hub, especially with getting more and more traffic, so your overall hubscore will improve as well.
      
      And no, your hubs will not stop being featured if your score drops bellow 80. Look around and you'll find plenty of hubbers with score bellow 80. They still have hubs!

      That was exactly my experience 7 years ago, until I had several hundred Hubs published. It still happens once in a while now if I delete a Hub and I ignore it, except to examine older Hubs and update them.
      
      To my mind, a large number of Hubs published by a person makes more of a statistically-termed "normal curve" that is not so much affected by the addition or loss of one piece of data (one Hub). A group of a small number of data is very much affected by the addition or loss of one piece of data. The averages psycheskinner mentions make an important  element as well - a new Hub that begins at a lower score may increase in score over time, but the initially lower score temporarily brings down the average of the whole set.
      
      I found that after having a large enough number of good-quality Featured Hubs (with very few Unfeatured), the scores are more useful.

      What do you mean by longer term? I've been tracking my hub scores daily and currently I'm new (less than 30 days) but I've noticed that if I don't make any changes, then my score drops, but even if I make a little change, then within about 4-5 hours, my score generally goes up. Does score increase depend on how often your edit something? Does the number of view affect it? If the viewing score goes down, does it drop your hub's score? I'm seeing a few patterns in this short time, but I'm wondering what others have seen?

   Thanks for all your replies, I didn't realise that it was my new hubs causing my hubber score to drop. But since it's because they're new, I feel better knowing my hubber score will rise as their scores rise.

   Regardless of how trivial this profile score seems to some, the fact remains that your links will be "no follow" if your profile (hubber) score drops below 84.
   
   So it appears as if HP penalizes  for publishing until the hub gets a decent amount of views.
   
   I used to publish one hub per day and after almost three years I am publishing about one per week and this is due in no small part to this bunk score.
   
   In my opinion just do away with it once and for all!

   What are the scores of your individual hubs. Was the most recent, individual hub score higher or lower than your average?

      My latest hub score was (is) much lower than my average. The majority of my hubs are in the 80s and 90s, a few in the 70s. Most of my 90s hubs recently dropped by several points, all on the same day, not sure if there was a Google update or something else. Weirdness.

         Update: average continues to plummet as individual hub scores decrease. Don't know why, more hubs in 70s than I've ever seen. ???? Oh well . . .

   I have seen that with mine as well. I have maintained a 97 the entire time I have been on Hubpages, but the last month or two...I am staying around 88. I even increased my commenting on other's articles and yet my score stays in the 80's...it is frustrating to say the least. I understand your pain! Congrats on the Editor's Choice. I have one but hope that changes.

   I think it would feel more meaningful to me if every spammer I report didn't have 71, while I am barely good enough to have 'do follow' links (85) at over a year as a member and over 100 hubs.  If the range is 0-100 why do people with no hubs at all get to 71?

    So what exactly does it mean in the real world if your links are 'no follow'? And does that change if your hubber score goes higher again? Do they become 'follow' without needing to go back and edit?

    None of it makes sense. I have one hub that gets 3000 hits a month and it has a score of 75, while some of my other hubs that get only a few hundred have scores in the 90's. Go Figure.

    I find the score causes some to judge that their group of hubs are better or worse than others.  It makes you feel good if its high and increasing and bad if it drops.  I don't concern myself with the score as much as I ask myself, is the hub providing a purpose and does it achieve what I want it to achieve. 
    
    In the last few months, I spent time fixing 75% of the violations on this account only to see my hub score continually decrease in that time frame.  You would think it would increase a little.  This leads me to believe there are relationships between the score and updating that I will never understand, ratios that once your down, you'll probably always be down. 
    
    I'm satisfied with what I have created, even if the algorithm isn't.  You should be too, never let a score make you miserable or drag you down or indicate that your material is "not good".  It is what you want it to be and only you can be the judge of what is good.

    One of the problems with score is that they are relative - your Hubs are scored based on how they rate compared to other Hubs, and of course other Hubs are changing all the time.

    Every time I work on my hubs my Hubber score goes down in a few days it will usually come back up. I have no idea why it should go down, but not much any of us can do about it.

    Rest assured. Your Hubber score is about as useful as a dirty sock after stepping in a puddle of dog pee.
    
    All it does is distract you from the other things you're trying to do.

    I have notice this same reaction! I publish a hub and it is featured and my hubber score goes DOWN! So, I am no longer publishing hubs! WTH???

       It's very simple. Your Hubber Score is composed of several things, including the average of all your HubScores.   
       
       When you publish a new Hub, its score is usually lower than your other Hubs - so that average goes down.  Therefore, your Hubber Score goes down.  Once that Hub gains traction its score will go up again, and your Hubber Score will go up again too. 
       
       That's the way it has always worked.
