Well, January is finally here.

Make or break month as far as I am concerned.

There is a stock market saying “However goes January, so goes the rest of the year.” Me thinks the same applies here.

Will it be…

A. Let the good times roll…

Or

B. A murder of crows glides overhead…

The end of December truly showed promise.

So what say you?

I am feeling optimistic at this point.

  During the Christmas season my traffic has been good. It historically goes down every year on the 3rd week of February. It is because a bulk of my hubs are crafts.

  Yesterday I posted a link to one of my hubs on Reddit and that has resulted in said hub getting 900 page views in the past 24 hours. So I think that my first January on Hubpages is going to go fantastically.
  
  I have exams for university so I won't be able to publish as many hubs as I would like, but I do have at least 3 or 4 planned, so once exams are over I am going to have an influx of hubs. I am hopeful that January will be good to me

  Since Hubpages transferred everything to their main site, I somehow become discouraged. Hubs that received daily traffic of more than 3,000 now receive less than a 1,000 daily. Am now engaging in better alternative.

  I haven't noticed any increase in traffic for Jan at this stage. My views for December 15 were a mere 14% of the views for December 14. I lodged 40 DMCA's in December 15 and am still waiting for around half of the content copied from my Hubs to other sites to be removed, hopefully I'll see a slight increase after the infringing pages are removed as some outrank my original Hubs in Google search results.

  Thanks, I'm almost at 9 million views!! But one hub alone that has almost 2 million views is currently only receiving about 100 views a day, so my income from it has truly faded fast in recent months. It's been copied so many times now it's hard to keep up with reporting copied content, with its popularity I could easy spend an hour a day filing DMCA's for it! And it's not the only one. It's really frustrating, when I'm even putting a copyright paragraph within the text of these hubs.

  I'm quite new to hubpages, so the concept of even tracking pageviews is one I'm still wrapping my head around, but as a newbie, I am hopeful and trying to gear up as much as I can to let the good times roll in 2016! Grateful for this community.

  I don't know how to work Reddit, but on my blog, I got 60,000 views over 2 days thanks to someone sharing an article on Reddit. It can be huge; how to work it is a mystery to me. Perhaps if you become an active community member, here and there you can insert a link.

  Be careful with Reddit. If you have a hub that you're hoping is going to get long-term traffic via search engines, then you want people to stay on your page and read/interact. Get to know the sub-reddits and determine if your hub link will be clicked and then backed out of or clicked and read. Think before you post and never spam Reddit.
  
  If you're looking for some quick views and you could care less what Google thinks about it, drop a link in a correlating sub-reddit. You could be amazed or it might get passed on by clickers in the feed.
  
  My best is about 2500 views in two hours. I believe that the entire experience probably hurt my page in Google's 'eyes' as the average viewer time on page was tragic.

  That's not going to work out. Reddit will ban you for posting your own work there. Also, bet your bottom dollar 90% of Reddit users are using adblock. Don't waste your time self promoting there, you will regret it.

  There is actually a Hubpages Sub-reddit, but I don't think it amounted to anything for those who tried sharing on it. It has been resurrected a couple of times, but the risk of being banned for self promotion is not worth any potential views. My case was a fluke.
  
  If you want to try to create that kind of traffic, it would be best to join groups or forums in your niche, and become a respected member, that can occasionally say, "I wrote a Hub about that..." and provide a link. If you come across as self promoting it won't work for you.
  
  I used to share on Stumbleupon and that brought in a few views. Google+ is useful as well if you join communities in your niche and are active in liking others posts. Pinterest is still the best place to share and get lasting pageviews.

  Indeed. 'I wrote a thing about that' <<< is meaningless in the extreme unless someone already knows and likes you, and I do mean likes you a LOT.
  
  Self promotion is practically worthless. Reddit could only work if you made sure you appeared to be someone other than the person who wrote the page; and you'll give yourself away by posting things from the same account, because you won't be able to stop once you start (until they ban you, of course).

  I got banned from Reddit pretty damn quickly. And quite rightly too.
  
  Slightly ironic that I wrote a hub about that which went semi-viral on Reddit. Well it got a few thousand views. Made 3 cents.

Having had a couple of micro virals from Facebook the last 5 days - I am very optimistic, but also realistic that those runs will settle down. Still I have an uptick across the board. I hope it holds up! Best wishes to everyone in 2016!

My traffic has increased since November and January is so far going fine. I have had a big increase in views from Pinterest, but those reddit figures are incredible.

The Exam

Locked in a room I was.

Two copper wires hung down from the ceiling.

A pair of long-nosed pliers lay on the floor.

Nothing else in the room.

The exam? To attach the two wires together; thus completing a circuit and unlocking the doors. Succeed or die. Simple as that.

Personally, I think these corporate human resources applicant tests go too far these days… Or maybe it’s just me.

I grabbed the end of one wire and reached for the other. Too far.

I picked up the pliers; used them to grab one wire by the extreme tip; and again reached as far as possible for the other wire. Again the other wire was still too far away.

Human Resources informed me through the speaker they were going home for the day and would check back tomorrow.

I was hungry and thirsty. I also noticed I was starting to get cold...

Kind of like getting internet traffic these days...

I've looked at last year at this time versus now. I am not happy. HP really better get off their butts and do something. January really is the predictive key.

And, yep. The exam is easily solvable.

  The virals you've been getting make it clear that it does pay to have other hubbers read your work because sometimes they repost and you win big time. Never has happened to me here on HP, but I keep hoping!

I love Christmas, both on a personal basis, and for HP earnings!

There is always a warm afterglow when some people continue spending through January. Earnings then get gradually lower through the Summer.

But yes, I am cautiously optimistic regarding 2016!

Truthfully, I became so discouraged and disgusted with all the negative results from the recent rash of changes that I don't even pay attention to my traffic anymore.

If I feel like writing, I write; if I don't feel like it, I don't. And I haven't felt like it in several months, now.

  I only set it up today and I know that it's gonna grow slowly (if it does at all). The biggest disadvantage being that most of my friends are kind of science snobs so they don't approve of what they see as the 'arts'. A.K.A writing.   Even though of less, my views are growing. A 1+++ with today's newsletter / profile review. I am happy with it and discover encouragement too. Of course it is relative to mine and may not reflect another. I am looking at another payout on the closer horizon. This week's newsletter offers incentive to write again no matter focus. Just write something and get in the routine again rather than sit idle reading and blah - blah - blah . . . Open a door of opportunity even if the wrong one.

  I think it does. I have noticed this trend for years, even though my "high traffic" is not nearly so good as yours. I agree, it is disappointing to finally have a "good" traffic day only to see the income from it be much lower than before.
  
  It's almost like the team plans for it to be this way, although I know it really has to do with how much advertisers pay.
  
  I feel sorry for people who count on this income because this trend can be very frustrating. Me? I just roll with the punches, but I can afford to do that because whatever I make, I make and am happy to get what I get, no matter how much.

  My CPM is at its lowest ever as well. There was a nice bump over the holidays, but this week is miserable and discouraging. I write new hubs just to maintain the same earnings, so much for a truly residual model. But something is always better than nothing!

  Hi Jan, guess I have to be thankful for small mercies. Having said that my income has continued to grow as, I write more hubs. To sum it up I think that writing what people want to read and writing it as best you can is the key to making an income from this site.

Well I have gotten some comments on my old hubs. My problem is that I have not written a new hub in awhile. I have writers block. Hope to write one soon. My only problem with this site is that I have been on it for almost three years and have yet to see any money in my paypal account. That seems to be unfair as some months I have gotten more comments and traffic and yet no money. What gives?

  You write mostly poems and stories, those are not usually very successful here. After three years, you still have not reached the 10,000 views mark. Your traffic may seem relatively good to you, compared to what you are used to, but it takes more than that to earn money.
  
  I know it's a hard road. If you want to earn money at HP, you might have to write a few practical hubs.

  I took a quick look at your profile and can see why you have not earned here. You are writing mostly poetry with a few hubs sprinkled in and another few that seem more like they would be blogs instead of hubs.
  
  Fiction rarely does well here, no matter how good it is.
  
  To earn here you have to find topics that will help people or answer questions for them.
  
  It would be wonderful if there was a site just for fiction where you could both post and earn, but I don't know of one.
  
  I hate that you have been here so long with so little success. Why not try writing some non fiction hubs about things you are familiar with to see if your luck improves.

  Honestly, things are falling apart in Hubpages when it comes to earnings. Currently, I don't put interest in the earnings any longer; rather I used few of my hubs as a gateway to my books on Amazon.
