   It depends on whether you think humans by nature are inherently good or bad or survivalists or all three.  I think that like all animals, we ultimately do what we do on a daily basis ultimately based on self preservation.  Because of this need to "survive" and how it drives the decisions we make, I believe that a set of "rules" of boundaries are needed to not allow our self perseverance instincts to get out of control.  I believe religion and the Bible help with this with the fact that the basis "commandments" are laid out to help guide us to be as good to each other as we can despite our pre-programmed selfishness.  The laws of most countries are based on biblical or other spiritualities “rule book” and ultimately are needed in every society.

   The Bible speaks about God's Interaction in the world so if no -one had taken time to write it down then history would perhaps have been lost. There are may things that have not been incorporated to the Bible as we know it today. So although I know it is God's Word people interpret it in different ways.
   
   I believe in a great big God who can speak to you today, however he chooses - visions, dreams etc. He is not restricted to the Bible. So in some ways it would be totally different but in another sense God is not restricted to our limitations!

   I've never believed in god Cara. All the things that go with a god, the hymns and the bible etc. are just control mechanisms. They're not always done with a bad heart but to me, that's what it all is, control mechanisms.

   It would be much better,to get rid of all cannonical scripture would even be better still! There would be no more CORRUPTED DOCTRINE based on symbolisim and allegories,creating a false paradigim.No more mistranslated through 5 launguages dictitorial rules based on fear.A lot less death because people would not have to die in the name of a God anymore.And there would be a proper scientific understanding of creation,not the understanding that explains it away without explaining it! And wow you mean people would actually be able to form there own opinions without the threat of fire and brimstone,purgitory,judgement.IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE CONTAMINATION OF A PLANET LOOK AROUND YOU!!

   For people like me it wouldn't be any different. Though, I wouldn't have to fear Evangelicals anymore and Rick Perry would no longer terrify me with his Salem Witch Trial Judge mentality. I imagine that humans would have leaned on science for answers to the questions beyond our comprehension and would have advanced our technology and knowledge much farther than it is today. I'm not sure why everyone assumes that religion somehow holds the fabric of society together when, in reality, nations with the highest acceptance of atheism have the lowest crime rates. Of course, someone would eventually jot down some notes and say they spoke to an angel; hence becoming a prophet. Con men will always exploit those in need of guidance and self-help mantras. Joe Smith and L. Ron Hubbard are good examples of con men-turned prophets.

   I think that there are good things in the bible that teach great lessons but there are also things that are just not relevant to our lives now and the time we are living in. The main problem with the bible is that most people can't seem to just read it and take the lessons for what they are they go way to far and cause all kinds of problems.
   
   I guess the answer to your question is I think that the world would be a better place without the bible. People take it way to far and they twist stuff around and their excuse is "well it's in the bible so it must be true."
   
   The bible makes people afraid to ask questions and it makes people afraid to be who they really are. It seems to keep people from taking off the blinders and looking around to see the world for what it really is. You should learn how to live through experience, not by following every single silly rule in some book. It makes people afraid to live their lives for fear of what will happen when life ends. If you live in fear your whole life then you've wasted the gift that God gave you.

    For me, I feel like it would be in a worse condition that it is now. People are already walkin around topless! Imagine if there was no Bible...just the thought is scary for me...I know that I am glad that I have one God-would be awful and lost without him

    I think many people would still seek out some form of enlightenment that is meaningful to them...whether it is a holy book of some sort or people that have charisma that will draw them in to help them feel better about their lives via messages about hope, forgiveness, kindness, love, etc. Most people want something to believe in that is greater than themselves.

    that's tough. i think it would be less complicated. we would all just believe the big bang theory and not worry about living an eternity in hell. are we talking no religion or no bible? because without religion i think we would fight more amongst ourselves, but there would be less war breakouts.
    
    i think there would be much less judgement.
    
    life with everyone believing in the the bible would also be less complicated...don't get me wrong, i'm not dissing religion.
    
    ...that's a very open question and hard to answer thoroughly without writing a book

    As spiritual beings, we need all the help we can get to wake up. We're trapped in this matrix of physical dichotomies, unable to see with spiritual eyes.
    
    Oh, sure. Our physical bodies would find lots of "purpose," but that won't last more than a few million years at most. Then what? Oblivion as the sun burns up the last of its core hydrogen and switches to helium fusion. No more Earth, no more bodies and us (the true, spiritual selves) lost without an anchor, physical or otherwise.

    I believe your reasoning is exactly backwards - it's far better (and it is God's plan) that we have His written word and do not need to rely on visions, dreams etc, to know Him and His truth. The only way man can know God and His truth is if God determines to reveal Himself to us - we do not have the capacity to discover or figure God out. Now, there are indeed times and ways that God speaks to us individually, privately, but we need a measure, a guide to examine our visions, dreams, that small voice, etc, to be sure it is God and not our own inclinations or assumptions.
    
    If someone tells me that God has told them 'whatever', how do I know if they are speaking for God or deluded or conniving . . ? . . I have God's own revelation of Himself and His truth, the Bible, to measure any private vision or dream by. If Joseph Smith or Charles Taze Russell or Ellen G. White or whoever tells me that I must join 'their' group, that I must keep 'these' rules, etc, then it doesn't matter what visions or dreams they've had I know what God has revealed to us in His own word and I know these folks are not in accord with revealed truth.
    
    The problem is people don't own an informed understanding of the reliability of Scripture; those who advance that surely the Bible was put together by Constantine for his own best interest and certainly books were left-out and other included by bad guys wanting to control people and even if all started-out well the texts are simply so ancient that of course the Bible we have today has been altered and corrupted, etc, those who assert such notions have gained a hearing even within the church. Textual criticism and archaeological discoveries simply evidence the opposite - the Bible we have today is an accurate translation of what was originally written.
    
    It simply seems far more sensible to me to place our confidence in God's own authoritative revelation of Himself and His truth than to trust in my own visions and dreams, etc. I published a hub on the Bible addressing this very matter.

       Charles Taze Russell was not into telling people that they must joint this or that group; nor was into telling people that they must keep all kinds of rules. Russell did not believe in the JW organization and its governing body.

    It would be all about human's personality, if the person good him or herself then obviously it would the same. If the person is depressed and aggressive, then that's how it would be.

    There was no Bible until the late 1500's for the modern man. There was no Bible before the 300's, until people got together and declared what books would be a part of the Bible and what would not. That is speaking of the New Testament and the Old... read more
