   What is the weirdest thing you have knowingly ever eaten?
   
   From the comments I've been getting on my Weird Items At Walmart - China Edition, I was wondering if anyone has tried some unusual foods? I've had alligator, horse, crayfish, and rabbit. Not that strange, but not usually found at your local grocery store. Thank you for your input!

   I was once on a tubing trip on a river and one of the guys there caught a fish and asked if anyone wanted a bite of sushi. Like a moron, I took a bite. It tasted just like ordinary fish; the consistency was just...different. Luckily, I survived. ;-0

      Yuck. And you would not believe how many people I've actually seen do that on the rivers in Alaska. I prefer my fish with a little heat added.

   A cheese and jam sandwich.  The ingredients are normal, but the combination is really strange to most people I have shared this with.
   Toast two pieces of bread, spread mayonnaise on both slices, add a slice of extra sharp cheddar cheese, and spread strawberry jam over the cheese.  Close and eat with milk.

      leroy, I'll have to take your word for it. I just don't think I could make myself try that. I have had a cheese and mayo sandwich, but the jam. I can't even eat apples with cheese. Call me a dunderhead, but I just can't do it.  Thank you for sharing!

   I took a mini vacation to visit one of my girlfriends in New York City last summer and she took me to a very high end restaurant.  I'm from the suburbs, so I wasn't familiar with quite a few items on the menu.  My friend took the liberty of placing our order.  One of the appetizers she requested was Sweet Breads.  I originally thought it was some type of pastry.  When the server brought it out, I asked her what it was made of.  Holy heck, was I surprised when she told me!  None the less, I tried it and I have to admit, it was not too bad (considering I was munching on a cow's pancreas). Would I order it again?  I don't think so.

   Escargot or in other words snails. Never try it! It is the nastiest thing I've ever tasted in my life. Nothing but pure salty slime going down my throat! Bleh!

      I had whelks long ago. They look like snails but they are shellfish, not slimy, but pretty chewy!  I wouldn't be tempted to eat them again.

   I've been a vegetarian all my life, but there have been a few instances where I have eaten meat.  Very weird experience to eat flesh!  I have also eaten one escargot (about 25 years ago) and a bite of snake (35 years ago?) but that seemed more removed and less weird (to me) than animal meat.

   I have traveled a bit and local cuisine can be weird, at least to American taste buds, I have eaten curried goat in Haiti and la lingua verde (cow's tongue) in Italy. The French are fond of aspic which is gelatin with meat or eggs. I can't say I enjoyed my meals but I did eat them. Of the three choices I would eat aspic again over the other two.

   When I used to live in the Mojave desert rattlesnakes were quite common. One day I reached down to turn on the faucet and saw one coiled there. I ran to get my neighbor, and he came over to kill the snake. After he'd killed it, he prepared a rare delicacy for us. He cooked the snake in the oven with butter and garlic, and it was quite delicious.

   Terrye when I lived in Spain, years ago. I went to my first Spanish restaurant and the waiter brought out little fried electric ells. They were jumping everywhere. As soon as they got them to the table I started screaming and jumped up and had knocked the ells everywhere. and I really screamed as I was running through the restaurant. I felt like the ells were chasing me. Hey that would make a great hub! WOW!!! thanks friend...lol.. oh by the way I never tasted them..

    Peanut butter,jelly, baloney and mustard sandwich.  The first year I went to my BFF's cabin we only got one sandwich for lunch.  I was always starved so I loaded the one I got with everything.  Mustard must be bread next to baloney. the jelly had to be on the bread next to the peanut butter any other way would be gross.  I may have even eaten it like two half sandwiches which would explain why the mustard and jelly had to be on the bread sides.

       A delicious twist on that is pb&j with lebanon baloney in between the peanut butter and jam.  It sounds weird, but it's delicious!

    When I was in fourth grade I ate a fried worm- my science teacher was passing them around to our class for anyone who wanted to try them. It actually didn't taste bad, but I don't think I would ever eat one again (also because I am a vegetarian now). :-)

    In Peru, guinea pig is a local delicacy. In the Andes, guinea pig is roasted whole and stuffed with bitter herbs. On the coast, they're coated in corn flour and deep fried. It's actually delicious!

    I absolutely love escargot!  Some are pretty grossed out by the thought of eating snails, but cover them with garlic and melted cheese, serve them in a mushroom cap and I'm off to salivary orgasm!

    Traveling in Spain one time, at a fancy restaurant somebody ordered me half avocado with baby eels.  They were tiny little green things with blue, blue eyes. The eyes were staring at me!  Tasted good. Not like chicken!  they were smoked so tasted like smoked any kind of fish.

    While living in Hawaii I think we ate poi.
    Poi was served in school there.
