Why can't I get Hub of the Day?
I watched a fellow hubber in the Apprenticeship program receive "Hub of the Day" again, the second time in the last 30 days and third since we joined the program. My goal this year was to get at least one "Hub of the Day". I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong not to get that.
Can someone who has received this honor talk about what they have done? I have read the requirements, but it hasn't really helped me. I try to write good hubs.
I got Hub of the day after sending a scathing letter to Hub Pages about censorship the first month I was on Hub Pages, threatening to take my writing elsewhere.
The article that I wrote called Living Frugal . . . A Way of Life was the one that got the recognition and my readership soared to new heights, however it isn't anywhere close to my best and only has received 1,384 page views to date.
My best article Pineal Gland the God Organ has over 11,500 page views but has never been recognized for its sheer brilliance as a shining example superior journalistic awesomeness!
The point is the Hub of the Day article is a sappy, fluff piece that housewives love and evidently Hub Pages does as well. I suspect it was simply a bribe to keep me writing on Hub Pages as The Powers That Be recognized my true genius and wanted to keep me writing for them.
So in conclusion you probably need to dummy down your articles so the teeming masses of ignorant sheep don't have to think to hard, after all Socrates said . . . "Make a man think and he will love you, make a man think too hard and he will hate you!"
Pineal Gland, Powers That Be and Sheep. Are you awake? These are all topics covered by a few of the sites I visit, very interesting. I'm off to read your hub on the pineal gland.
About eight years ago I had a spiritual awakening of the educational variety and about four years ago had an educational awakening of the spiritual variety, so yeah I'm awake and trying to awaken the sleeping masses!
There are so many good writers on HubPages, and I imagine that it's difficult to choose a Hub of the Day. I have had a few articles chosen as HOTD in the two plus years I've been here. Although I don't have a magic formula, these are a few things that those articles have in common:
* Unique subject matter or topic that has not been done often
* Timely topic. (My Groundhog Day hub was chosen on Feb. 2nd.)
* Good quality, original photographs
* Concise writing - I tried to curb my tendency to be too wordy
* No grammatical or spelling mistakes
* Interesting, well-researched facts
I know that many other articles fit this criteria, too. Sometimes it's just luck of the draw, and what happens to be timely and catch someone's eye that day.
While it's nice to get a virtual pat on the back once in a while, I don't believe that getting HOTD will significantly increase either your earnings or your views after the first week you've received it. If you are writing good quality articles now, just keep doing what you are doing!
Thank you for the tips. Makes sense. I know the topics I pick are broad and aren't too specific.
Spelling mistakes do not seem to matter. I wrote a hub about the poor quality of a certain HOTD that had 17 glaring typos in the first paragraph. That continued throughout the entire article. It had very few comments so very noticed by others.
The fact that you are in the apprenticeship programme speaks to the fact that you are writing quality hubs - I am often surprised by the HOTD choice and most times it seems quite random - I see lots of hubs that I would put up for HOTD that haven't been picked.
I suppose that's true. I've seen some of the choices for Hub of the Day and been surprised myself.
I have observed that hub of the day articles are written on rare topics which don't found very easily. They are informative with photos and videos ,mostly own sources and we can easily find that writer has it's own knowledge.
Like few days ago onw wrote hub about baking and how to prepare it at home with own photographs and seemes very experienced.
They seem to like lots of good photos and the use of a lot of capsules. With so many new hubs being written everyday, I think it just has to do with the luck of them seeing your hub.
HOTD selection is not about good writing or having something unique to share. It's about personalities and being on management's good side. If you are neutral and stay out of the forums they won't pick you.
I tend to stay out of the forums because I see a lot of drama there I don't want to get mixed up in. I am here to write, not to berate.
I'm an apprentice alum, and though I dreamed of getting Hub of the Day, I never thought I would. But I've gotten it twice. And my experience is very different from what I see written by others. For example, I never go near the forums and I stay neutral, unlike what Paxwill says. The two hubs that were picked were not fluff - one was about creating a five year plan for your career, and the other was about making New Years resolutions work. (The second topic is not even popular - most people want to read about why New Years resolutions *don't* work.)
I would add one suggestion from the Apprentice Mentor to what Stephanie Henkel said. If you write hubs in response to weekly topic inspirations, it helps, because those do get seen more easily by HubPages staff.
Keep doing good stuff, and let what happens happen!
Congratulations on hub of the day, two days after asking this!
Hah I know, what a coincidence! Thank you.

Why can't I block a Hub that appears at the end of one of mine ?why can't I block a Hub that appears at the end of one of mine ? It's an offensive Hub-and I did go through the steps of blocking that persons Hubs but it still shows up anyway, at the end of one of my articles............

I know there are several issues with this. Firstly, the network sites can't link back to Hubpages because of the reputation of the site and it being sort of a taboo domain to link to as regards Google (Is this a permanent problem, or does a site "get out of jail" eventually?) Also some...

Hi, I'm brand new to hubpages.I've applied to google adsense twice now and have gotten rejected. They don't give me a specific reason. It seems that most people on here got an account without a problem, and I thought all you needed was one hub to apply. (I applied a second time because I thought...

Here's an interesting message from Seekyt, which mentions Hub Pages fondly."Important DecisionMake sure you've read the news to the right before reading this paragraph. ---->There is always a way to get around these things; however, do we really want to "get around it" and try to...

I logged in to Hubpages this morning to find that whereas previously, I had two unfeatured hubs that I have been intending to get around to editing or deleting, I now have 25 UNFEATURED for "lack of engagement".Whilst I appreciate that the older hubs may well need some work or in some...

I have an odd situation. When someone comments on one of my Hubs that's on a niche site or on discover.hubpages.com, I can't create a reply comment. It logs me out of the site, and when I try to log into the niche or discover site it sends me back to the old hubpages.com. There's some sort of bug....
