I did start writing seriously and trying to make money out of it until i was forced into early retirement from my 9 to 5 job, Joanne, so I can relate to every word. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you John, for sharing this article in the forum. An interesting and relatable read.
I believe, writing is a form of self expression. Having said that, it’s not that easy to write, and like any other job, requires full focus, time, and hard work. What the writers write, does have an impact on the readers, and that is important and satisfying.
In the process, if we make some passive income, it’s welcome.
Thank you Joanne, for sharing your experience and for sharing this excellent article.

Thanks for sharing this, John. If this well-written article is a slim peek at what this writer is capable of, I'd say her decision to leave the nine-to-five was the right thing to do.

I agree with Joanne that writing is a real job. It is real hard work and one needs passion and discipline to keep at it. And it is very satisfying to put your thoughts into words and it's a greater joy when it helps someone and  you get appreciated for it. I enjoyed reading Joanne well written article. Thanks John for sharing.

Why can't they still consider Writing as a Real Job in today's time? Writers and authors play a huge vital role in the society. We do a lot of things that people won't just take notice of. I've mentioned some already on a forum, and its degrading when someone tells you "What do you want to be?", when you tell them "want to be a writer", "that's it? you'll just write and write?" with a look that says its just a waste of time and you won't earn anything face. I was able to relate too reading this one. Thank you for sharing John.

Thank you for sharing. Writing is as real as any other job like woodwork if it's satisfying. Stay professional as you like it.

Try watching a Japanese Series called "Pretty Proofreader". It narrates and tells beautifully about the world of writers and proofreaders, editors, and such. I have learned a lot from them. Especially the book that the male main character was able to come up with in the end, it was so smart and witty of him. It also explains how important the job of writers are. smile

Thanks John for sharing Joanne's motivation when deciding to become a full-time writer.  It is wonderful that she is following her passion and earning enough from it to be comfortable doing what she loves.

Thanks, John, for posting the link to this article. It is ironic that some people have to work so hard to become a writer, while I, not wanting to be a writer at all, just fell into it. Someday I may write my story. I've been writing professionally since I was 19 years old. I've written or been an editor in three media: radio, TV and newspaper. Then as a legal editor I supported a disabled husband and paid off two houses. Pretty good for someone who wanted to be an actress and didn't have the looks or the talent. lol

Aww MizB. Unfortunately our ambitions don’t always match our skills, or our assigned destinies. You were obviously a great success as a writer whether you wanted to or not. Thank you for sharing.
