I just checked my traffic sources page and this is what I saw:

Anyone else seeing this? It's a bit unnerving lol all the numbers at the top are completely absurd and are negative.

      Matt,
I checked my just now and show about the same thing. I am getting concerned because a few of these sites are links to pornography sites. This is worrisome. Does any one know if this will effect our Adsense accounts and can we be punished from having so many views from porn sites such as ignatzmice.com?

I was wondering about the weird sites that were popping up. It makes me wonder if the site has been hacked, or otherwise tampered with.

I suspect since the numbers are negative, they wouldn't affect adsense, but I really don't know. My stats page isn't affected, although it hasn't updated in some time.

I didn't realize some of the sites were porno sites, that is just offensive to me.

Well, I guess it's officially a hack of some kind.  I'm having the same kind of thing and I see from this thread that I am far from alone.

Both the numbers and the domains are crazy.  So who is doing this and why?  And I hope somebody is minding the store out there in California and at the fabulous Hubpages HQ.  More will be revealed I guess.

Check google analytics to verify that you've lost traffic. My traffic source stats say I've lost considerable organic traffic, but in actuality my traffic continues to increase on Google Analytics.

Yes, just looking to post a forum for the same problem and saw that you already did. Very weird. I'm wondering myself if the strange traffic sources are linked in some way to the severe drop in traffic that happened to me within the last 48 hours. Interested to see if these 'traffic sources' are the same as others are seeing. Seems strange to have the traffic issue in addition to this glitch - coincidence?

It seems as the sources are different.  Maybe the sites are determined by your personal use on the computer or what you write about?  Many of the "traffic sources" are related to my hubs and personal use. Idk, just a thought.  Or perhaps your content was linked there?
My views are the same as always, no change, a rise perhaps.

Yes, I believe it is isolated to HP only. Google analytics seems to be working just fine. At least I can still get my stats fix that way.

The stats page says it updated 80 minutes ago, but the numbers haven't changed in over 2 hours.

Yes, I would say double-check everything in Google Analytics (if you use that) because it can give you your traffic in real time.  So far, mine seem to match up with what's in my "stats" tab, but I'd also get screen shots in case you need to prove your earnings.
Some people have reported that they've lost earnings because the page views were skewed. :\

        1. paradigmsearch profile image60
paradigmsearchposted 11 years agoin reply to this

My guess is that HP doesn't even use the in-house stats for earnings calculations. HP would use the Google Analytics' so that the advertisers couldn't give them any arguments over the numbers.

The easiest and most likely answer is that its a harmless glitch in stats reporting.

There is no reason to assume it is real traffic or a malicious attack.

I would welcome an attack that gave me over a billion views in a day! But, that didn't happen sad

Um... I have a question about these weird names and numbers appearing in our traffic sources...

Could these be a weird way of someone out there adding their links somehow to our Hub accounts so that they get named? Are they like backlinks? Are they a blackhat way of adding to some rankings of certain sites out there? Some of the links I have seen here appear random and chaotic.

I hardly think that my biggest traffic source is some guy on Stumbleupon who has linked to me over a million times. I worry about how this might affect earnings to people's hub.

What an interesting situation. I'm new to hubpages and not making money yet, so it won't affect me. I have "lost" several sites that I know I'm getting hits off of on my traffic source page, and added to the page is mister-wong.ru with numbers in the negative hundreds of millions.  I'm not going to go see exactly what "mister-wong.ru" is though.

It will be interesting to hear what happened.

I think there has been a glitch in stats for a few days now.

My most trafficked hub has shown a steady drop in traffic since the 22nd, but this drop has not been reflected in Analytics.

Yesterday for example - Analytics -  694 (I would expect about 300-400 of those views)
                                              HP stats -  31

On the other hand I am very much worried about the latest problems around hubpages, as during the last 2 weeks we have experienced missing earnings, weird traffic drops, a broken feed (for me it was not working for about 14 hours) and now this.
I wonder what will be the next thing and when shall I finish writing to this site - as these stuff do not motivate me to hang around too much lately.

I'm glad to see that many people are not affected with actual traffic problems and that this is just a glitch in the sources page. For me (still having the problem) it coincided with traffic cut 95% and google analysis confirm there is no traffic. It comes down to google giving me nothing. This is day 3. Sites are indexed, no warnings in webmaster tools, but hubs are in the dark- they don't appear when searched for by title or even first paragraph. Only show up by searching the hub URL or my profile URL. Perhaps these problems are not linked as everyone is not experiencing the same, but this is beyond frustrating.

I've got a bunch of these Bizarro World "traffic sources" too. I first noticed something was goofy a couple of days ago when I had a "minus 1" from bing.com, but I didn't think much of it.

Now it shows minus one billion views (!) from a wordpress page, minus 308 million from a Russian site, and minus 547 million from a Spanish news site.

The one I find most worrisome is a minus 13 million from a fellow Hubber's page. Maybe this person has some sort of nasty link in their Hub(s) that is spreading throughout the site? I'm sure not going to click on that link and find out.

So hey, where the heck is a Staff member or some sort of announcement to let us know what the heck is going on?

Now that we all know these sites are probably "unwanted traffic", I think this is possible right? It may be a bad idea to follow the strange sources and check them out, if whatever it is they are doing is to bring themselves traffic, they win.
If they are trying to spread viruses, worms, or other malware, it'll also make it easier for them.

It seems the stats page is stuck. Although it says it was updated 53 minutes ago, my stats haven't changed in over three hours. I know based on Google Analytics that I've had traffic in the past three hours, so something is again amiss.

@MarleneB Yes, it would've been nice to have positive numbers that high! lmao

Wondering if t his is related: For the first time last week I had to manually enter the data into google so that it would find my new hub... after three days of not being able to find it on google... I entered the data manually. I have never had to do t his before... since then... I have found my hub on google but have only had 1 view... whereas, yahoo search is reporting lots of view.... google seems to not be responding.  I am going to have to search google for other hubs that are not performing to see if they show up on google too.

          I'm experiencing something similar.
In the past 2 weeks Google hits seem to fall behind, meanwhile bing and Yahoo hits are getting higher in my traffic sources.
I don't know whether Google did something again that may cause this, but I'm definitely getting interested in this issue.
Anyway, thanks for the staff for the solution on our most recent problem!

I happened to notice my Traffic Sources page doesn't really correlate with my stats page. In fact nothing is correlating. Even my Analytics page says something different. Or my traffic is dropping...

Thank God someone else noticed a disparity too!

My most trafficked hub, which I see getting hits in Analytics Real Time, all the time, is currently sitting at zero in  the 24 hour rolling stats for hits.

Its as if stats (and the stats on the hub itself) is not seeing anything from Google.

        Very confusing!

davenmidtownposted 11 years agoin reply to this

I think Analytics has always showed something completely different then either the statistics page or the traffic source page. I believe part of the problem is that the stats page is delayed by what HP considers a 24 hour window... each view has its own 24 hour window... whereas Analytics is in real time....

          1. IzzyM profile image87
IzzyMposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Since getting Analytics Real Time, I have not noticed any major disparity before now. The two seem very similar. One of my accounts had a huge traffic influx for a few days, and both HP stats and Analytics appeared to show the rise at the same time.

Thanks davemidtown. My analytics reports don't include any of these massive hits on this particular hub so I would expect that will be taken from my income.

Tammy: you should expect that it will NOT be taken from your income...because they do not figure income based on HP stats... they base income on the data that is received from google...which is verified in house and before payment is issued. Your income comes from google and then passes through HP.

Not sure Alastar. I think my problems started before this glitch. I have a hub that doesn't get a lot of hits. On the 16th this hub suddenly got 945 views in one day and 700 the next day. It normally gets 10 views a day. None of the view sources or Google AdSense showed any of these hits. No one I have talked to knows what to do about this.sad

davenmidtownposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Do nothing about it... because there is nothing you can do about it. The problem is internal to HP. What you can do is continue to write high quality hubs that make you happy as a writer. Cheer!

    51. Alastar Packer profile image71
      Alastar Packerposted 11 years ago

That does appear ominous, Tammy. We both know where at least an attempt at an answer should come from. Sometimes a potentially titled topical hub will see a huge spike in hits- like a celeb or movie in the news or whatever and those huge increases not showing up as views is troubling. Analytics was zip too?

      1. tammyswallow profile image90
tammyswallowposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Analytics didn't show any of these big hits. They weren't on the page stats or traffic sources either. I will just plan by my analytics reports. Thanks!

        1. davenmidtown profile image68
davenmidtownposted 11 years agoin reply to this

It would be next to impossible for  HP to match Google in terms of counting impressions and views. It is always better to have an outside accounting of what is measured based on what is paid anyways. I would trust google and refer to that as your chief source of information. HP stats work best to evaluate specific hubs but much of the information is repeated accurately in analytics...
