What has been the hardest bad habit you have had to break or you are attempting to break?

There are so many bad habits and it takes a long time to break a bad habit.  What has been the hardest bad habit in your life to break so far?  I have heard the hardest thing ever is to quit smoking.  Thankfully, I never started smoking, so I don't know about how hard it is to quit smoking.  However, I do struggle with a good many bad habits. Thank you for answering

For me it would be smoking like you said. I have quit many times because of strep throat or bronchitis out of necessity and stayed quit for periods of time.
Second, I would say eating before bed. Snacking. Eating emotionally or out of boredom or while watching tv!

Hi schoolgirlforreal,  Yes, it must be terribly addictive for it to be so hard to break. I can so relate to the snack craving before bed or after a hard day's work, especially high carbs to comfort.  Blessings

For me it would be procrastination. No matter how hard I try and how many new year resolutions I make, I just still cannot part with this bad habit. Maybe I even procrastinate to give up procrastination lol.

Hi honghanhvt1182, Oh, that is a difficult one no doubt and could cause other issues in life, obviously.  However, I tend to work better and produce my best work and creatively too, under pressure and at the last minute it seems.

i have a bad habit of making decisions quickly without pondering over the pros and cons. That is a die hard habit I can't break, lead me to wrong conclusion

Hi peachpurple, yes, that can cause a lot more problems in life when rushing into simply without thinking it through.  Hard habit to break though, feeling impulsive to go ahead and act on something.

Many years ago I stopped smoking and that was hard, and all the times I had previously attempted to as well.

Even harder than that, was to break my food addiction and overeating habit, which I now have under control, but it always lurks in the background, just like an alcoholic or drug addict!

Hello Get Thin for Good,  Congrats on quitting smoking! Yes, addiction to food is truly like being an alcoholic or drug addict, but it is just food.  It is also a terrible addiction, and I think all of us have trouble with it at times no doubt.

You are so right Faith Reaper! Food should be about surviving, and surviving well. Instead, we obsess about it most of the time. Even the thinnies. Sigh.

Hi Faith...I quit smoking on Christmas Eve1982 when I had a case of bronchitis and was too sick to smoke.  I was shelling out 72 cents a pack, by the way smile  I recognized this as my "ticket out" and haven't smoked since...but it wasn't easy by any means.  Sometime in my 50's I finally quit biting my fingernails...that was a bit easier.  Now, it's overeating.  I'll get back to you on that.

Hi Bob, Congrats on the quitting smoking!  That is no doubt a hard one. I do bite my nails at times too without even realizing it.  Yes, the food one is an ongoing issue for me too, especially after a long day's work. I don't say diet, but healthy...

Hi Faith, not following my sincere INTENTION to clear away clutter in this house, which may fall under the term, procrastination.  I keep up with the dirty dishes, beds always made, kitchen cleaned up, cat boxes pristine (I loathe odors) but my writing room and cellar are like a war zone.  I cannot begin to describe!  EVERY DAY I am going to tackle the mess...because my Spirit tells me "you will not complete your book until you get rid of clutter...because no one can think straight in the midst of clutter."  I get so very overwhelmed that I just freeze up.  I just bought a book titled "The Magic Of Tidying Up" which is phenomenal, and I have started following her suggestions.  This year I REFUSED to make a resolution to get rid of clutter...I have to depend on God alone in me to perform through me.  This week I did go through all my clothes and did a major elimination.  The biggest problem is all my writings.  I guess you could say my worst habit is allowing myself to feel so overwhelmed that I freeze up and walk away.  This is an excellent question.  Love Sparklea smile

Hi Sparklea, I understand completely, believe me!  My writing stuff piles up fast, as I am always finding something that gives me inspiration to write on, then I add it to the pile of inspiration.  LOL  That book sounds great. Clutter does distract.

Junk food. I'm not a huge eater of junk food, but its convenience is incredibly hard to ignore. I became a vegetarian roughly two years ago and fast foods still haunt my dreams. While that might sound like I succeeded, because I am still a vegetarian, consider that I was shooting for vegan. Read the ingredient labels of your favorite foods and you'll be shocked how many contain some sort of milk or egg.

Hello M.T. Dremer, Oh, I know ...if it is there, I will eat it! I just can't buy it or I will eat it all. Here in the US, we have become a fast-food country it seems. So glad you are mindful to read the ingredients. Yes, contains that and who knows!

I was addicted to cocaine many years ago. I kicked the habit without intervention and without rehab. Of course, I had to move over 200 miles to separate myself from temptation (and connections, friends who did coke) in order to do so, but I did it.

I'm proud to say I've been drug free since 1987.

I also smoke cigarettes, but I'm not ready to give them up. My personality type needs some kind of a vice. Cigarettes either will or won't kill me, but if I'd not quit doing coke, I'd definitely be dead by now. I'll take my chances with ciggy butts.

Smoking was definitely a doozy.  I quit at 25 before getting pregnant with my first son, but I had been smoking since the age of 14 and it was hard, but definitely worth it. I didn't want my kids to see me with that nasty habit.  My other bad habit that I fight off and on is the tendency to procrastinate, some days are better than others smile.

Using swear words.  I have grandchildren now, and I don't want them remembering me doing this.  It's bad enough my children know this about their mother.

But it's hard to stop because I don't do it when I'm in control - but when I'm not.  So breaking the habit is particularly difficult.

Eating carbohydrates has been a bad habit I have been trying to kick, although the body does need some carbs occasionally. Breads and cakes can be incredibly addicting (to some folks) and delicious. I still struggle with it although I have lost about twenty pounds by attempting to cut them out of my diet (along with regular exercise).

Online shopping & shopping in general.  I simply love to shop Amazon, my favorite place.  Everything is so reasonably cheap.  However, this year I vow not to shop Amazon so much, if at all, for I have SO MUCH STUFF.   I try to stay away from online shopping  as much as I can.  I just look and say......GOODBYE.  I also intend to STOP shopping unless for the bare necessities, nothing MORE.

Sugar and Dairy are my vices.  They are addictions similar to a cocaine addictions and you do go through withdrawal with both of them.  I staooped them a couple of years ago and it took me three months, but I am back to the fixes.  I am paying for them now with cysts and not being really healthy.  I told my husband to NEVER bring ice cream in this house again.  It is too easy for me to say that I will not eat it and then go and eat it.  Bad, bad, bad.  Same with soda.  No soda in this house!

Faith, I gave up alcohol over 5 years ago and haven't wanted to touch it since.  I did it to prove a point to myself that if I put my mind to it I could do anything. I wasn't a drinker anyway but, when out with friends the peer pressure built up and you would drink to not be the odd one out. Well That's what it seemed like.  It didn't help being in the military as it was a bit of a culture back in the day.

I get a lot of respect from people all the time when I say I'll have a soft drink or water when I am out now. Some of them just can't get their heads around it but determination and consistency gets you where you want to be.

I am glad I too, never took up smoking. As there are so many that just don't want to be the odd one out all the time. Its a shame that we are self programmed to just fit in.

The hardest habit that I had difficulty trying to overcome to stop using Facebook so much during the day. I can actually say that it was an addiction for me. It also was causing so much problems for my and my significant other, to the point were we almost broke up. Until one day I decided that Facebook was not going to control my life anymore and finally disactivated it. At first, I kept logging back in, making it very difficult to stay off. However, I finally stop letting Facebook control my life and I had been off it for 6 months straight. I feel amazing and have noticed that Facebook is not everything, there is better things out there.
