What would be the downfall of the united states?

  1. BakerRambles profile image83
BakerRamblesposted 6 years ago via iphone

What could potentially cause the collapse of the United States?  Would it be an attack from overseas, terrorism, economical collapse inward, or from another civil war?  These are all just examples, feel free to add to it, but let's discuss this nevertheless.

Politicians sell votes. You can put pretty names on it like lobbying or raising campaign funds, but it all comes down to bribery.

Have you ever tried getting a hold of your Senator? Call up and say you are a voter and see how far that gets you. Call up and say your company would like to make a sizable campaign donation and he or she will be calling you back.

        I agree with Evan.

If we don't do something to get our government's spending under control, we're in bigger trouble than we already are. They also need to cut taxes to spur growth.

They cut some but not across the board. And we both know both sides of the aisle need to stop spending.

The Bush tax cuts need to be made permanent so businesses will feel better about hiring and spending.

Then we need a flat tax where everyone pays and, yes, I mean everyone from the kid making minimum wage to the billionaires and corporations and everyone in between. Lets say 15%. Seems fair to me.

Then take the tax off food. You want to provide REAL help to the poor, fix it so that they don't have to pay 9.75% (Tennessee) of every dollar spent just to put food on the table.

Business only feels good when profits are up.
That is why we need gvt...because if it were up to business, we would starve for all they care.....only the ones with money matter in their world.

Tax cuts for the rich is welfare...a big give-away, letting them off the hook for living here, and putting it square on the middle class.....which is why there is no middle class anymore.

We have done it your way for 10 years..and the result are in: FAIL.

That is why we voted for Obama--as a country!

We don't want any more right-wing corporate rule. Most of my life-time is more than enough.

To employ my kids in case they ever fell on hard times.

And here's a little Capitalist Tale for you:

The place where I work lost power due to Irene.....
                  Estimated time of fixture: Saturday.

Big Boss says "everyone take the rest of the week off.".....

My immediate boss says, "You can't do that!"

He says Watch me. So, we will go a week with 3 days pay, and he doesn't care what it does to us.

My immediate boss said: "He's full of it, we had the same amount of business last year at this time!"
He is just using the hurricane as an excuse to SAVE MONEY--at the expense of us workers having a pay check!

Oh, and also...the foreign workers pay rent to him,so they will now have to pay rent on a 3 day salary.....will probly take all of it.

This is capitalism in a nut-shell.
Debasing, foul, and allows greed-mongering to trump over human dignity.

The boss acts like he is doing us a FAVOR by giving us a job, not seeing that it's a 2-way street. We work hard: this is how he treats us?

                  CRAPITALISM. Sux!

You hate Capitalism and the profits companies make but yet how would you pay your kids if your business didn't make a profit?

If you display the same lack of enthusiasm at work as you do here sometimes, perhaps he's doing you a favor by not firing you. Just my opinion as a person who's worked as a manager, seeing that "it's a 2-way street" as you put it.

Perhaps you should start your own business then use all those horribly nasty profits to put the mean old dude out of business. Just a thought.

If you are saying that cutting taxes spurs growth...then how do you explain the Bush years?  Or for that matter, the Bush Tax cuts are still in place yet it has not spurred any growth to "sing" about.  No, if you take a look at every time in U.S. history that there was good job and economic growth--you will find it was during times when taxes were higher than they are now.  You will also find that the economic disparity between the middle, lower class versus the upper crust of this country was narrower.  No one...and I mean no one has shown any evidence that tax cuts create jobs or any economic growth of significance.  If you have some...show it...otherwise rethink your GOP talking point.

The redistribution of wealth took place during the Bush Years...his administration passed the Bush Tax Cuts which sent more money into the pockets of the uber wealthy and took that wealth from the lower and middle class.  The introduction to tax write offs, the mortgage deduction and others...redistributed wealth and sent more money upstream...so if you want to argue that there is a distribution of wealth going on...don't look at liberals...look at your own conservative party and point the finger where it should be pointed--at yourselves!

The arc of destruction is already being traced out by Greece and the Eurozone countries.  As more of the population empowers government to take more property from producers and transfer it to none producers the downward pressure on America will rise.  This course is unsustainable and will result in Americans acting like Greeks.  The takers will riot and the makers will flee.  It is an old formula.  As long as there are people who believe that transferring property from the man who worked for it to a man who did not is the business of government America will not continue.  I do not see this changing.

So to put it simply - it is the greed of the recipient of public "largess" that will spell the end of America.

Ben Bernanke is about to pump more 'liquidity' (QE 3) into the American economy). He can only do this through the banks who will receive trillions of taxpayers money. The banks will use this money in exactly the same way as they used the money given to them under QE 1&2. They will lend money to their friends at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Chase: at virtually nil interest, who will use it to trade on the stock market and so maintain the share price bubble. This creates the illusion that the economy is doing much better than it is. People tend to look at companies' share values - which look fine - instead of their balance sheets; which are looking pretty dire.

There might - also - be another reason for printing this money. To fund a war against Iran or Syria; maybe both.

Either way printing money devalues a currency on the foreign exchange markets and the dollar is already falling against the Euro as we speak. Just as it has since the Euro's inception. This move could well blow back in Bernanke's face and provide the impetus for the Euro to become the 'de facto' first reserve currency of world trade. For America this would mean the end of empire. So start bringing the troops home now before they are reduced to begging on the streets of Kabul and Baghdad.

The economic collapse began with George Bush...two wars and a social prescription drug plan that were unfunded.  Wars funding kept off the books...thus making things look good.  Obama, included war expenses as part of the budget--something dishonest GWB would not do.  The re-election of Obama will ensure we continue fighting the forces of evil that want to bring down this country and those like you who are not millionaires.  Thanks for voting against your interest...like you GOP'ers always do.

You cut all the federal grants, welfare system, and non-profits, and lack of jobs, I believe than the people have every right to be angry, and perhaps the dollar will collapse like Evan stated, more business will go down, and less jobs than now. jami l.pereira,  I hope you're wrong for many reasons. I'll mention two. @1 There has never been a civil war or revolution In Western history where all citizens had the right to bare many and all kinds of arms, Imagine that they all think they are right and have been wronged. #2 A civil war will bring about marshall law and when Military Drones are used on we the people or the people get cold or hungry, the civil war will end quickly and the dead will be laid to rest. TODAYS AMERICANS ARE TOO SOFT AND WEAK TO HAVE A CIVIL. If you are right' After Marshall Law is lifted The Constitution and Laws in America will favor the rich and the powerful.

The Civil War is a direct contradiction of your first assertion.  There were privately funded armies during the Civil War including every type of battle field arm available.  The biggest guarantee against a Civil War is the citizen soldiers.  There is no hereditary military class.  Most military people value the ordinary citizen, since they are all drawn from their ranks.  In addition, the military has a clearer notion of America's history of free government and liberty.  If anything is likely, it would be a pro-democratic-republican coupe d'eta since the military is inherently conservative it would not be action to support a socialist government.

Your answer exposes your hate for the President. Your assertion of the President trying to make America a socialist government is basic republican-teaparty hogwash. We can care about the welfare of the people and promote that welfare in a non-socialist government, that had been the American way until Obama became President.

The only thing original about that statement is your use of 'hogwash' and that's getting old. Oh, yeah, no parroting there, is there, Junko?

"Tea Party is bad. Tea Party is  bad. Raaaaaaa!"

A corporation, at least the big ones you liberals drone on and on about, are not a 'person.' They are companies that have shareholders that top management has to answer to for the bottom line - ie. profits. There's that evil word liberals hate again.

If you have a 401K or IRA account, you might want to look into the companies those accounts are invested in. You might find you're complaining about the very companies who are going to provide you with a comfortable retirement. When I say you, I mean all liberals.

If you believe Obama is a good president, that speaks volumes about your character. None of it good. Again, I'm speaking of liberals as a whole.

Lastly, the only thing I was ever been misguided on was the belief all Americans felt at least some love of this country. Since the election of Obama, I've realized that isn't the case. Sadly, one of those people is now the president.

I don't think we should talk AT each other either but it's very difficult to talk to a liberal when they think they're mistakenly always right. In doing so, they're demonstrating the same arrogance exhibited by their leader, Barack Hussein Obama, and I simply won't put up with it from him or anyone else for that matter. You want to talk WITH me, it's very simple - drop the arrogant attitude.

And you're right when you say the president and all liberals shall get no respect except that I would take out the 'all' because not ALL liberals are as arrogant as Obama, Reid, or Pelosi. Where I'm from, Junko, respect is something you earn, not given out as a government entitlement.

Most people do not realize that the United States will fall, there is no doubt. The collapse/end of the United States could be a good thing. How the United States falls is what is key. We would hope that the end of the United States would be for world peace. We can't even begin to comprehend if there would be governments or what, but it is going to happen no matter what. I feel our human race is to the point when we are all smart enough to fix this problem. Maybe even in my life time.

Anyone with common sense would realize that our outdated, abused government system is extremely outdated and flawed. This is not to say every other country doesn't have their own issues(every gov't system is flawed). The capabilities that the human race can achieve is really unknown, but what the United States has achieved from 1776 to now can not be matched by any other country in history. It should take even less time to top the United States era. If we keep going down this road it can end in catastrophe, there is no doubt, but I feel that human reason will win out.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage."

    — Attributed to Alexander Fraser Tytler, a Scottish historian/professor on the fall of the Athenian republic in The Cycle of Democracy, (1778)

        I like that quote too.
I was not aware of the second part of the quote.
If we look at they cycle in that quote, one might argue we are at or near to being in a dependent state, with indicators we are heading towards a voluntary bondage (perhaps voluntary bondage to someone who says 'if you just do what I tell you it will all be ok').

Keep in mind though; this Great American government experiment was not really a true democracy.  It was originally a constitutionally limited representative government with representation in two separate houses, one for the people and one for the states. When we became complacent we evolved that to two separate houses both chosen popularly, never anticipating that they would evolve to selfishly represent their parties, and never expecting that the people would become apathetic about their government (forgetting that 'we the people' are in fact our government).
Because it was not originally a true democracy, we stand a chance of undoing that mistake, and attempting to return to that original idea of representation, and the original expectation of the people playing an active role.

If the US falls it will be from within. The family unit is the most important unit in a society. Pretty obvious the family unit; Father, Mother, children is disintegrating. This doesn't mean the US will fall from within, but if it does, that will be one of the main reasons. Central planning, and heavy regulation that the democrats want is not good for a free society. Please don't tell me democrats are not for controlling all aspects of our society. If you really think they aren't, you've been voting for the wrong party. And I don't care about you independents that brag you are independent but stand for nothing. Or third party BS. A third party cannot win. Republicans have gotten a wake up call from the tea party (which is not a third party)to change it's ways. We can still change things in a free society. But we are becoming less and less free. Look up our rating on google compared to other countries. We should be at the top of free countries, we are not.

The greatest threat to the United States today would come from far right organizations and groups.

When laws are passed that they do not agree with, not only do they question the legality of elected representatives to hold office, the claim that their supporters and actions are 'unAmerican", and treasonous to American values.

Should such laws make it to the Supreme Court, and should the Court validate them as being Constitutional, these folks claim that the Court itself is violating the Constitution.

There is a very small gap between this line of thinking, and the belief that the only way to rid the US of such a 'takeover' by unAmerican thinking is through violence.

For the purposes of clarification, 'democracy' is a Greek term (no, I didn't invent it myself) that simple means rule by the people.

The United States IS a democracy.. the people elect their government officials who pass laws on their behalf.

What the United States is not, is a 'direct democracy'... which just means the people themselves do not vote on every single law being passed (unless we are talking about referendums).

Very few places are direct democracies.  With a population over 300 million, spread over a vast land mass, it would be virtually impossible for the US, like most nations, to be a direct democracy.

Ancient Athens, of course, has a much smaller popular, yet it too had elected officials.

The US was not based on a rejection of democracy, but rather sought to guard against the tyranny of the majority by many means, including checks and balances.

It is ridiculous to say that the US is not a democracy, or that it is a Republic instead of a democracy.  A Republic in our modern parlance, is simply a state without a monarch.

Its amazing how such basic terms (much like the words liberal, left, right, etc), can be twisted to a point far beyond accuracy, either intentionally, or through ignorance, when people try to make a point

          And what?

We are based on a democratic model for election of representatives.

But we are a Constitutional Republic. Democracy is mob rule, poison of the masses, no Democracy lasts, they devour themselves.

          Not interested in it.

And your right about the use of the word "Democracy", but as it is slung about these days by leftists... it is about mob rule.

Our Constitution safegaurds us from the over-bearing tyranical mob, as well as an over-bearing tyranical Govt., either of which is deadly.

Thus the need for super- and supra-majorities in certain acts of legistlation, and functional or structural changes. The founders knew damn well that things needed to be checked an balanced with forceful authority.

That is why I could not believe my eyes last nite when someone spouted off the founders were Socialists, and the Constitution also.

The Founders placed checks and balances everywhere within the document. They set up a bi-camarel ligistlation to devide up the power and authority of that body, even as they divided our Govt into three branches, so as to disperse the concentration of power.

How the hell does that equal centralized authority... WTF is this country coming to.

A country can be (and the US is) a democratic Constitution Republic.

Democracy just means that the laws (including a supreme law like the Constitution, if there is one) are created by the people.  How they create them, ie through elected representatives, through special Constitutional assemblies or by direct vote, does not effect whether they are a democratic state or not.

Similarly, a democracy can decide that certain laws need more than just a simply majority to be changed, and it can implement various structures and checks and balances to safe gaurd itself from tyranny.. either by the 'majority' or by individual elected officials.

None of these checks or balances, nor the fact that the US has a supreme law in the Constitution, negate the basic fact that the US is a democracy.

Once again, it was so that the US democracy would NOT devour itself that the founding fathers put the checks and balances in place.  They were not put in place INSTEAD of a democratic form of government.

The Democratic Process and the Constitution have been ignored and trampled since Obama's inauguration but perhaps we'll fix that with a big, ole Impeachment Party. Another great part of the bright side of this is that Obama has revealed what an utter failure the Democratic Party's policies really are in blazing lights and techno colors to not just Americans but for the whole world to see. That will be a good thing not only in the 2012 election but in decades to come.

Just look at the statistics of how many people earned more than $200K per year in income! Four million tax returns showed income more than $200K per year. 26% of the big-tax-paying-people of the full US population earned $2Trillion in sum-total. US is a wealthy nation currently, and hence very spoiled with the spending patterns, debt levels, and problems arising are also of significant proportion/magnitude. Expenses are relatively low for the basic needs; milk is still $2.25 per gallon, gasoline is $3.50 per gallon, 2 piece sofa is $599, 42” LCD TV costs $399, mid-size car costs $16,000, good pant/shirt combo is $25, vegetables are $0.39-$1.50 per pound, and finally, cost of school is approx. $300 per year (housing taxes pay for school).

US is entering the phase of a recessionary time and everybody needs to brace themselves. I have been talking about this slow down since I just do not see:

    1. Job market improving
    2. Salaries improving
    3. Corporate spending improving
    4. Attitude of corporate buyers still very conservative
    5. Housing market pretty much in doldrums / recession
    6. Investors talking about ‘what to buy’
    7. Investment choices in the market improving
    8. Commodities still grabbing market share of available funds
    9. IPO market improving
    10. Consumers opening their purses to spend ‘openly’

Housing is still terrible. Existing-home sales were bad recently. The inventory of homes-for-sale grew, even as mortgage rates are at all-time lows. A 30-year mortgage is at 4.15%. It is possible we could see a 30-year mortgage with a “3” handle if US slips into recession. That is going to really help since it will reduce the mortgage payments for a lot of people. It is too common to hold mortgages on houses even if you are 60 years old!

These are the problems that have the potential to cause a complete collapse of the US economy if not started to be fixed immediately. But the fall will be very gradual. This is because the engine of growth of the world even today is the "$15Trillion" engine in the US that continues to spend beyond their means every year. This is ‘huge’, and ‘unparalleled’ to any other economy. Until there are other economies that ‘spend’ as much as a percentage of GDP, and, import it from other nations, it is going to be really hard to avoid the cold, sneeze and flu linkages (‘when US gets a cold, rest of the world gets a flu’ syndrome).

US is not going to fall tomorrow! smile

I have notice you always pigeon liberals daily. I just walked on by and respected your right to be wrong. You choose to comment on my post to uncorrfectedvision. I respect your opinions but I disagree with the way you view the problem and the cause. You say the President is at fault and I say the Republicans and the Tea Party is at fault and willing to bring the country down. I believe that is a fact, not an emotion. Your respect for the President will help you more then the President.

Junko, there's enough blame to go around. I've stated on HubPages several times Bush made his mistakes.

      He spent far too much.

He took us into Iraq and shouldn't have. I bet you're surprised I said that but I didn't and don't agree with it.

He should have stopped the whole Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac fiasco.

He should have clamped down on the border but he didn't. Not acceptable. Yes, I think we should send all illegals home BUT we need to streamline the process for people to come here and work. No to anchor babies. They go home with mom and/or dad.

I will tell you I did and do respect Bush and Laura.

Bush spent too much but you don't fix that by the new guy coming in and spending 4 times more. Now we're a solely owned subsidiary of China. That's Obama's fault.

We're in Libya and we shouldn't be there in any way whatsoever.

Obama simply isn't presidential. Yeah, I'm almost 50 and a little old fashion but he just isn't presidential.

Redistribution of wealth - my money is my money. Your money is your money. You don't deserve what I work for and vice versa.

Obama is a Socialist. I firmly believe he wants to change America into a Socialist state. I will fight to keep that from happening.

I simply don't respect Barack or Michelle. I respect the office just not the man that's in it or his wife. I'l just say' "let them eat cake" and you should understand from there.

Now, Junko, if I saw you on the street and we made eye contact, I would say hello and be respectful as long as you were toward me. Personally, I would have to get to know anyone before saying I respected them or not but I don't trust easily. As a fellow Hubber and writer, I respect you as well as LMC. That respect will not keep me from saying when I think you're wrong. I expect the same in return.

Again, I'm not a Republican nor a member of the Tea Party. I'm a Conservative. I vote for the person. I will NOT be voting for Obama. I don't like him nor respect the man. Nothing at this point is going to change that.

Thank you for stating that, that was a great debate between you and Junko, those two arguments should be what America is not today, Socrates thought greater of it, that is why he was poisoned not by his own hand, but the people's hand.  Speak the simple questions in life and you will be answered.  I wish the president was trained through the classics, and was given a chinese style civil service examination with philosophy as the strongest topic.  Be for the American middle class, tax exemptions for those to build infrastructure, these based for the lower class.

"Obama simply isn't presidential. Yeah, I'm almost 50 and a little old fashion but he just isn't presidential."

        Concur.

I chose not to vote for either Obama or McCain because of what I regarded as name-calling and finger-pointing during the debates.  That sort of leadership is better suited for a kindergarten playground than it is for the White House.  Unfortunately, that sort of behavior is also what makes voters decide who to vote for.  Finger pointing academics don't cut it when it comes to leading the United States.  We deserve what we got, and it is up to us to pay attention to whether the next man we elect as President actually has the capability to be a good leader.  Obama has demonstrated over and over, He just is not The Man.
Either way, we as a country will not fall, in fact, we'll likely take the lesson to heart, learn from it, and become even stronger.

America will cause its own downfall by trying to rule the world and not minding what happens at its doorsteps. Its just history repeating itself. Great nations always arise and great nations always fall because of the need for greed and the control of the worlds resources. When America finally falls, another will rise and the same viscious cycle will continue.

According to Gordon Duff, America is already gone. He says a coup happened with the 2000 election of Bush.
I've mentioned before that I read an article that said Bush handed over civilian control to the Pentagon. (remember in the 60's...when they tried to levitate the Pentagon to remove the evil?)

Don't need to....I believe it to be true.
That is why Cheney is buying all that property in Dubai, and the Bush's in Paraguya. And why Erik Prince escaped to the UAE.

They are criminals, guilty of high crimes, treason, you name it. They will all need to escape soon. The whole lot of them.

And a coup means a take-over. The Florida Supreme Court gave that election to elbushbo. Harris got a nice promotion too.

They planned and executed 9/11, with the zio-cons in Israel. How much of the cabinet were dual-citizens? How many are now?

You go on and blame Muslims and Obama.
You're barking up the wrong tree.

Don't worry, crying  Conspiracy Theory is nothing new, It is usually the weak's way to dismiss something they truly don't understand or want to hide. There is a lot more evidence against than for the "Official" explanation.
            This stuff never happens right?

Not all Conspiracy Theories are Crackpot Theories.
Of the two terms, 'crackpot' is more likely to be hypothesized, speculated, or imagined and less in touch with verifiable facts.  Conspiracies do exist.  The problem is that we've become too comfortable with associating the discussion of conspiracies with crackpots, and are quick to discard a conspiracy theory because of that association.

It has been said many times, " The U S government is far, far too big for any conspiracy to be possible." Kennedy , 9/11 , you name it . It just isn't possible with so many  people opposing each other and themselves constantly. The greatest conspiracy : The apathy of the American voter!

    1. BakerRambles profile image83
BakerRamblesposted 6 years ago in reply to this

I can agree with that statement greatly, as I do believe that there are well over ten thousand conspiricies that all conspire against each other to take or withhold money/goods/political influence.  This in itself is and will be the fall.  Socialism in obamas corner could potentially place America back on it's feet with heavy consequences for all involved for a substantial amount of years (A decade of more), but could bring new internal road and town infrastructure and economic prosperity.

Do you realize why that was actually said? If not, then let me help you out...it's to keep the willful ignorant from getting a clue.

      Kennedy? 9-11?

It is possible for just a handful, meaning that only 3-5 people know what happened. It cannot ever be dismissed.

That's just like blackops, actions taken by government without any actual Presidential authority required. It's called- plausible deny-ability.

If government wanted to wipe out someone or some place, who is to stop them? No one actually.

The same goes for any other entity on this planet, it is always a cause and and effect, but a conspiracy is not the only reason for a downfall, there are thousands of other reasons as well, and yes him and you are both equally right about the willful ignorant keeping the peace to prevent a government lashout.

        1. Cagsil profile image60
Cagsilposted 6 years ago in reply to this

It's not about the willful ignorant keeping the peace. It's about the willful ignorant who continues to believe the distortion and misinformation spread about by the politicians and upper 1%. You know, the people who do actually control this country?

America hasn't been a government protecting it's people. It's been a combined effort of the upper 1% and government, controlling the people as it sees fit, while "they" carve up(divide) and conquer the people.

And, yes- the status quo is going to be the downfall of America. Only because those who are in power enjoy their control too much and to the detriment of society's freedom is what's going to bring it to it's knees.

This entire country is going to go back to square one, after everything that has been accomplish. It's pathetic.

You can easily relate that one percent to let's say, middle age feudal lords and their vassels.  Before a sociological perspective fell onto place and the fencing of property began to push people into developed cities, lords acted like the CEOs and the 1%.  It has happened throughout history, an individual just has to figure out whether or not he's with or against a particular entity.

And its as much to do with apathy and divisivness as it is of conspiring and control, "divide and  conquer" and they have almost succeeded . Hence the divisive nature of our media , we keep electing career politicians and expecting change.  Until American voters finally decide to re-awaken with common sense we will continue our down hill slide. I did not vote for this president , however it doesnt matter because they have no ability to change anything. We must somehow fire our own congress and senate. Get corporate entities out of the financial control of government , and reinvent a government of the people. We.....are at fault for all of this ! We gave up freely on being vigilant ,on learning anything fronm the past, on remembering what it was  like to be colonialized by greed ,graft and corruption. We have elected kings over leaders again and  again and nothing will change until we change [the voter].
