What I found interesting was this forum thread.....
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/4806
That was an interesting thread. I was tempted to post a few times, but I didn't want to derail it, or get people going in a different direction.
I kept out for the same reason, but I was interested to see my philosophy being referred to
I think the whole thing sux, especially as the Burmese gov are being such wankers about the import restrictions. Typical government. Couldn't give a shit about the people, just the rules
I don't know. I've seen the word "wankers" used in American English frequently.
I've been meaning to see it, but only because I watch all the big documentaries that come out. I kind of assumed I would have to put in the same category as all the other agenda pushing documentaries...even if I'm inclined toward the agenda.
I will watch it though, but I'm much more excited about the new Indiana Jones coming out.
I am looking forward to it coming out here. Pretty much, the whole idea of a belief in creationism is limited to certain types of American and I am hoping it hits the movie theaters here.
Should be good for a laugh. Might even qualify for Jenny's thread winner.
I like Ben Stein too so...
Mark, if you don't get it out there, I'll ship you a copy once it comes out on DVD. I'll be buying a copy for myself too.
I love Ben Stein, did you European types ever get to see "Win Ben Stein's Money". It was a game show on the Comedy Channel here in the US.
I doubt it will come out here.
I am hoping but... I will be taking you up on that if they don't.
Peter - No I didn't see that.
Seriously- take me up on it. I'll ship it to you if you just remind me when it comes out.
Thanks, I will do. And if you ever want a copy of "On the Origin of Species" just say the word
Doesn't Darwin recognize God at the end of that one?...
Jimmy Kimmel was the host and contestants essentially played a Jeopardy-like trivia game against other contestants and Ben Stein. It was hilarious.
I can't remember. But, as I have said, I don't see evolution as in any way proving the non-existence of god. it might disprove the creationist story, but that means nothing. I never thought that bit was literal - neither did any one else for the last few hundred years.
Except a few.....
Haven't forgotten to write either. Just been too busy the last few weeks. Want to bounce an idea off you, but it''s hard to put on paper (as it were)
Here it is:
I've been waiting, but I won't rush you either. I'm still available.
Hi Peter!
Of course, Darwin began life as a conventionally religious English middle-class gentleman. At one time he was seriously contemplating entering the Church - although, as it was the Church of England, that was probably more of a social gesture than anything else.
He was "horrified" at the implications of the theory he was gradually developing (based on accumulated evidence, of course) - and for a while still clung to the shreds of his old Anglican religion.
Of course, the theory of evolution is not incompatible with religion - it just make some of their more ludicrous aspects more difficult to swallow.
Darwin's own letters make it uniquivocally clear, however, that by the end of his life he had abandoned all pretext of religious belief.
And the rest is history .....
Yes, I read this, too. The rest is indeed history. I agree, evolution is not incompatible with religion, a point I wish everyone would grasp.
The more the better. Mark is at the top of my HubPages prayer list, and (as he has already said) he wouldn't mind one bit.
What we have to do is lots of SHORT posts if we want to beat the "Last Wins" thread without passing out from exhaustion.
Needless to say, we should also make a blood pact not to post in THAT thread ourselves ... but could the more competitive ones of us actually stick to such a pledge?
Jenny
Done.
Atheism Rules!
Those losers have really really short posts and can't compare
LOL
That thread is so dead without us ... bwahahahahaha .....
Dead as a Dodo. Jut look. It's been 4 hours since anyone updated it.
Losers!
If you win, what do you get? If wrong, what then?
Mark, would it bother you for me to add you in when I pray?
Betty Jo
Sorry, Inspirepub,
I was aiming at Mark, didn't mean to almost hit you with my reply. bjp
Betty Jo -
Not in the slightest.
Would it bother you if I don't reciprocate, and instead just hope that you see the light?
Win what?
LOL
Well, I counted the amount of words in this thread, and we have 546,998, not including biblical quotes. That other thread has more posts, but a lousy 53,666 words.
We still rule !
Damn!! Those are very interesting facts!! . I would say your showing your nerdiness but i would not want to assume! lol..
It looks like Atheism AND this hub rules!!
.How long did it take to count them
I second the question
And I'm dying to learn what method you used
It came to me in a dream and I have faith
I third it.
And, if it did come to you in a dream, interpret please...
Well, I am actually recounting as we speak. I am doing the other thread at the moment, so if you can persuade everyone to stop posting to that one, I will have a definitive answer
I knew we had more words than the other thread! Especially since many people would quote from a quote from a quote from a quote and before they even stated their two page rebuttal the reply was already 10+ pages.
Okay maybe those numbers are a little exaggerated but you get the point.
I thought it was our goal to have a long thread. Just offering to help it along!
Although I thought the discussion of the Ben Stein documentary "Expelled" would have done for some nice conversation, but it would seem no one here has seen it yet!
Well, tell us all about it then.
Was it good?
Did it fit with your world view?
But, more importantly,
Was it funny?
Yes it was good. I'd say eye-opening.
For the most part, yes.
Oh yes it was funny. Ben Stein's monotone voice is always a hoot. Apart from that I certainly got a good bunch of laughs out of different parts of the documentary.
I don't know about that one but I saw your Ali G Video Mark.
Too funny.
LOL
He is funny. I only posted that video so WC could see if the metacafe videos were working properly. Which they are for me, but not for him.
Something biblical there WC?
Mark, I have seen that vid and am a big Ali G fan! hes so funny and talented!.
Ohh, i almost forgot to say...
Atheism Rules !
OK !
Which other thread? I must have the details of this dream immediately. My immortal soul hangs in the balance!
Why, right this moment I might be offending in some dreadful manner by drinking unflavored water before my evening meal!
Help me, Saint Mark - tell me exactly what to do and not to do to guarantee my place among the Chosen Few Who Will Live Forever, before I blow my chances with a casual sneeze to the north (or is north actually correct? would I be damned in perpetuity for sneezing to the south, instead?) ... you see, Saint Mark, how unworthy I am ... please save me ...
Jenny
Bless you my child. Just do as I say, and you will be saved.
Glory be to the freethinkers

How can atheists improve their image? For whatever reason, the mainstream theists in the U.S. have trouble separating average atheists from the extremists in the news. Not all atheists want to watch Christianity crumble or start their own dictatorship. But how can we spread the image of a more...

I find most people are clueless. They say they are atheist, but can't properly form an argument as to WHY, or they say they are agnostic, with zero clue as to WHAT that is.Ignorance, above all, is our weakness. Not religion. Although ignorance and religion are good bedfellows.

Is atheism a religion?Properly defined religion is “a set of beliefs concerning the nature and purpose of the universe, generally agreed upon by a number of persons; something one believes in and follows devotedly.” So you don’t need God to have a religion. All you need are some prophets (e.g....

...and so, we come to this point of reference. We can gather from massive ranting atheism is much a splinter faction, due to its roots in Christianity. But the question comes to mind, IS atheism attempting authentic Judaism?Well, what is an authentic "Judaist" and what is an...
