Beautiful and Historic Holiday Destination : Cebu, Philippines -- Magellan Cross in Cebu

Magellan cross is a cross that was planted by the Portuguese and Spaniards when they reached Cebu in 1521. The cross is now in a chapel across the Cebu City Hall and beside the Basilica Minore of Santo Nino -- the patron saint in Cebu City. It is a hostoric place as 1521 is the year that Philippines according to history books were marked in place by the voyagers like Ferdinand Magellan. Philippines like Cebu is 80 percent plus Catholics and Roman Catholicism was brought by the Spaniards who colonized the Philippines for more than 300 years until the Americans came in 1898. and gave the Philippines independence in1946 after a three year (1942-1945) rule by the Japanese. Clearly this cross sets the mark of Christianity and the rule of the Spaniards started in that year.
