I am your Relationship Expert and I have answers to all your problems – I don’t think I have advertised or said anything of that sort. With the number of mails I receive everyday asking for advice on relationship issues, I guess I need to make myself clear. It is true that from my school and college days I always had friends who consulted me about their problems and trusted that I will have a solution to their problems. I too have wondered many times that what the qualities are which makes me a relationship expert. I have found the answers too.
- I am a good Listener: I always have a patient ear for friends and allow them to share their problems with me without interrupting them and asking questions only after hearing it all.
- I do not judge without a proper analysis: I like to hear both sides of the story and analyze the pros and cons of the problem. Even when I advice I try to present it nicely without hurting them.
- Wider network of Friends: With a wide network of friends or acquaintances I always had all type of friends and have seen others experiencing or facing different types of problems and solving them or making things worse which have automatically equipped me with solutions to the problems as well.
My belief is when you have
a problem the first place to look for an answer is within yourself. Also if
anyone is behaving in a particular manner it is mostly because you have given
the reason for them to behave that way. I am a firm believer of ‘what you give
is what you get’. I am perfectly alright with my close friends coming with their
problems to me. But now after seeing some of my Articles I even have complete strangers sending me mails asking for advice
which makes me want to laugh. I sincerely think that such relationship advice
should be left to experts and prefer not to waste my time or theirs. I even had friends in twitter asking me if i am a relationship expert as i tweet a lot on relationships.

Relationships, I wrote my first one during the first Hub Challenge over a month ago
which was a huge hit and appeared in the first page on Google search which
motivated me to write more. The reason why I tried writing on something which I
have not written earlier was because I was fed up of hearing that ‘I have seen

I think you have more insight than you give yourself credit for. Being able to see things objectively gives you a real valuable vantage point. Remember, you don't need to know everything about relationships, just more than the person seeking help.
The only thing that concerns me is you say you try to be gentle with everyone, trying not to hurt anyone. I have found that sometimes it is necessary to be firm, even brutally honest. My worst results is when I try to be too gentle with people.
You seem to have a gift ... so I suggest you continue to use it wisely.

John Chancellor : Thanks for the vote of confidence. It is very true that one need not know all about relationships or have to experience problems to give proper advice. Yes, I try to be honest and firm too without making the person miserable than he or she already is. I feel great when close friends come with me for help. I also feel great when things work out for them. But when someone whom i know nothing about comes for a free solution to their problems sometimes i feel annoyed because i value my time and prefer to put better use of it. I will have a look at the site you mentioned.

I think you are an expert if the first advice that you give is to find an answer within yourself.
I cannot take seriously those people who advice and tell you what to do. I think that the most sensible thing to do is to help the person see his/her problem and try to let him or her find the answer.
