Hubpages, relating to the football tag.
Is writing about famous football players, and controversies under that tag? Maybe this topic will give me more knowledge in this sport.....that I have no clue about.
I was todays judge for the hublove contest, I have posted my results on my blogpage and to the hubpages team, for a full round up of todays finalists checkout my blog.....jimmy
http://hubpagesauthor.wordpress.com/
About topics: no, the topics will be all over the place, some more general, some more specific, but there will be a wide range of topics to explore over the month.
Jimmythejock has chosen a winner!
"This was very difficult indeed. Every hub in the finals would be worthy of winning.
1st place Easter Jokes, Riddles for Kids - Sorted by Category by Lela Davidson
The jokes are so corny you just have to laugh.
Runner-up: How to Snool a Snivelard, Snollygoster or Snoutband by amy jane
The name of this hub makes it a must read, and the hub is full of interesting new words that I had never heard before."
So both Jimmy and Lela are granted 5 points, and MC7 for correctly guessing "jokes" yesterday. The leaderboard has been updated, and Stacie Naczelnik and Whitney05 are currently neck-and-neck in the lead!
65 eligible Hubs were published with the tag "jokes" yesterday, and they were, again, of great quality!
Keep in mind, everyone, that any one participant could potentially still win 761 points!
Is everyone else having a blast? I think this is a great idea - good inspiration for Hubbers and genius on the part of HubPages to get high quality targeted content! Lucky, lucky all of us!
Congratulations Lela for snagging 1st place. Also congrats to gamergirl, amy, and stacie. I'm honored to have been picked in the top 5
Congrats Lela! Everything was great..I am afraid I wont be able to figure something out for football..That is going to be a stretch that may be well out of my league.
Congratulations Lela!
I'm also having fun with this. Although I'm tired! I haven't done anything but focus on hubs all weekend, so far.
I'm taking a writing class where we aren't allowed to write poetry or short stories. The purpose is to do a bit of writing "cross-training" to exercising our writing muscles. These different hub topics sure create some cross-training.
The hubs being produced during thsi contest are great reads. Congrats all.
Congrats Lela.
Stacie, you're killing me! Ha. I'm sickly and still trying to keep up with you and these hubs! Ha... Well, I see while I was taking a break from hubbing, resting my eyes and such, you've written 2 football hubs. Unfortunately, I only have 1 in mind, I need to get the creative juices flowing to catch up with you.
Wow I never thought that I could write 2 hubs about rugby (football) ! I am stunned by what Hubpages has encouraged me to do and Im not even eligible for the silly contest!
BTW I think there the daily winners deserve to be somewhere else than buried on this thread - can HP start a hub for the winners?
Our clue host today doesn't seem to have posted the clue.
I'll give them 10 more minutes, and then post it on our end.
Sorry about this guys - it sucks when you rely on someone else to do something.
I will post at 12:15. Sorry, the clue sponsor didn't come through.
So, going forward, 12 noon is an approximate time.
Some blogs don't apparently update immediately, so I won't have a definite link for you guys to go to until the clue post is live on the host's site.
Just a note that today there were 75 entries and NONE were disqualified because they were off-topic, duplicated, spammy, etc. Excellent stuff!
John Chow will have chosen his winner and runner-up within an hour or so.
That's great. I was so nervous that I've finished my first chicago hub on the Chicago Fire.
John Chow should hopefully be reporting his choice for winner among yesterday's "football" Hubs. In the meantime, I've updated the leaderboard, minus the 5-points that will go to the winner.
Stacie & Whitney are still in the lead!
With ten hubs a piece, is anyone surprised?
Great going ladies!
I wrote a chicago hub but it was about a Scotsman, I hope it still counts.....jimmy
No, we still haven't heard from John. He confirmed he received the finalists, but he hasn't chosen yet. He's probably mulling his choices.
thanks guys lol I guess i will have to wait till 6am in the morning when i get up for work it is 1.16 am now here.....jimmy
Are we still waiting for the results from Sunday's contest?
All right - sorry about the delay everyone. John has chosen his winner and runner-up:
Winner: Top 10 Most Sizzling Football Sex Scandals by Talem
Runner Up: Papa Bear, George Halas; a Football Legend and Humanitarian by In the Doghouse
Congratulations! I'll add 5 points to Talem's point tally to make Day 4's tally current - and that makes for a 3 way tie between Stacie, Whitney and Talem!
Thanks stacie, and wow I'm ecstatic I got 1st place today! After scanning the hub, I'm embarrassed I had made some mistakes in placement causing some weird mislocations of pictures.
Nice job! Congrats. You guys are amazing. I am definitly in it for the writing challenge at this point.
This is probably a dumb question, but I JUST found out about the contest (busy weekend!). Should we include Amazon links or just write our content?
I have a feeling this might be one of the dumbest questions I've ever asked, but I just want to be ABSOLUTELY sure, you know?
It's not necessary to have Amazon capsules in the hubs to qualify for the contest. You just have to make sure that the day's specific tag is in your hub. For example, today's assignment is under "Chicago".
You guys are all amazing! I feel like I have no prayer of winning, but this is still so much fun (plus, who drops out on day 5??). Congrats Talem! Stacie and Whitney... I can't keep up!
GG-hang in there, you are tough..you can do it. Your stuff is good. Don't give up now.
*whine* But it's HARD!!
*drinks more coffee and goes back to writing*
So, if we write hubs about the same topics that other people have written about in a particular contest day, do we still get points for them?
More specifically, all hubs being submitted by each author each day should be different from the hubs published by other authors, yes? If the topic were 'shoes' then two different authors both writing about 'How to Wear Stilettos'.. is that allowed, and both hubbers get points?
Consider me done.
I am not going to keep busting my tail to find and write about topics the other contestants haven't, just so others will not afford the same courtesy.
If I had known that we could all write about the same facets of the given clues, I'd have a lot more hubs.
So yeah, congrats to whoever wins, but I won't be trying any more. I quit. This has been the exact opposite of fun, and it's the fun of Hubpages that is why I joined.
I've been trying to be as original as possible, which can be kinda tough. I was actually surprised that no one had covered the topics I did.
I feel like I got a late start, so was trying to get a number of them out. The problem is that I'm a perfectionist and spend WAY too much time on one hub. :p
I realize now that I could have split at least two of them into two - or even three - separate hubs. Bah!
Just to be clear, we don't accept Hubs that are mere paraphrasing of other pages or Hubs. That said, there's more than one way to skin a cat, and it's not uncommon to see different approaches to the same topic.
We haven't seen any violations among those actively participating in the contest. What we've seen are truly terrific Hubs that approach their topics with plenty of detail, originality and quality.
We hope they provide a lifetime of value to you, too, through the ad impressions program.
Thanks for the clarification, Jason. I wish I'd known this when the contest started so I could go hang out with Mark and the others rather than bust my tail trying to compete in this.
As a side note, given this new information, I've decided to remove certain entries. I do not want to later be viewed as having attempted to hang on the coattails of those who won the contest with hubs that will, at that point, not be able to be distinguished as having been published/written previous to the winner's entries.
Perhaps I interpreted the words significantly unique wrong. If so, then that is my doggie bag to toss out.
Good luck to everyone who remains in the contest.
I'm sorry you misunderstood what was meant by 'significantly unique'. I try to keep up with what people post here or email but I can't read minds. Fortunately, it seems the other participants have understood correctly what we're looking for.
At any rate, with the leaders having 25 points apiece, and someone could still potentially win 730 points through the end of the month, so it's still anyone's game.
But if you choose not to participate at all, that's fine. Everyone's participation is voluntary.
pssst... is it to late for anyone to enter the contest? sorry.=/
I just started yesterday.
Anyone can start posting eligible hubs right now.
thanx, okay.
WAIT! C.M.
Is todays topic chicago or are they going to open a new one?
That was yesterday. They'll be posting a new one momentarily.
They're going to open a new one. Chicago ones have to be posted by noon PST, then you have until noon tomorrow to hub on the new topic
