Today we rolled out My Photos and the Title Tuner, two new Beta features that are available under My Account.

In My Photos you have access to all the photos you've ever uploaded to HubPages. You can organize them into albums, add a description to them for later use, search them, and easily use any of them as the starting point of a new hub or as your profile photo. Images from My Photos can be used and reused in the HubTool's Photo Capsule, but you can also use them as part of a question, answer, status update, or in the forums. We've also redesigned the My Photos Uploader (and the HubTool uploader) so that you can choose up to 20 images at a time.  Eventually you'll also be able to easily upload photos from your mobile device into My Photos.

The Title Tuner is a feature that will benefit those of you that have some hubs that are already doing reasonably well in search engines.  It allows you to quickly step through hubs that may benefit from title changes, see the search term stats and words that you should consider adding to the title.  These tips are automatically generated, and are based on the search terms people are already using to find your hub.  In our tests, these have helped generate more traffic, but they do require some care: regardless of what the tuner suggests, it's up to you to ensure that your title reads well, makes sense, and accurately represents the content of your hub.

On top of these two beta features, there were some bug fixes and a batch of small improvements to HubPages Answers.  The biggest of these is that when someone asks a questions from a hub, a link to the hub will be included with the question in order to provide proper context.

Why are these features labeled Beta? It's because we are still working on them, but are so excited about their existence, that we wanted to go ahead and share them with you right now.  Bug reports and feedback on how we can improve these features have will be invaluable as we work to fully integrate them into the HubPages product over the next couple of months.

As always, please let us know if you run in to any problems on the site or see any issues on these features that need work.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your work in constantly improving HubPages. I just now published a new Hub and the photo uploader worked great. However, the photo capsules will not let me add a caption to explain to folks exactly what they are seeing in the picture. Each time I try to add a caption (or a photo capsule title) a box pops up asking me what website I want to go to, and it will not accept my answer, which is: None.

This all sounds great but I have been trying to finish my hub before the end of the contest tomorrow and am running into problems.  I upload the photos (more than one at a time which is GREAT!), title the capsule and save and then try to finish editing the hub and it never completes that task.  When I go back, the photos have disappeared.  I have loaded them over and over again with no results.  It is now 1:24 AM.  Going to bed.  Hopefully the problem will be resolved in time for me to publish the hub tomorrow before the deadlike of this travel/map contest.  Very frustrated tonight as you might imagine.

When the glitches are worked out...this will make loading the pictures much faster.  Obviously have not given the title tuner a try yet...but sounds like it will be helpful.

STILL NOT OPERATING!  It is now 9:36AM and I just reloaded some photos and saved them.  Went to finish editing and it never completes that job.  When I go to preview a page comes up that says my hub is no longer published.  It was not published to begin with!  I have to sign in with my name and password...click remember me (it never seems to do so) and this circle of events just keeps repeating.  It is not as though I am a complete newbie.  After almost 2 years of hubbing, I do know how these systems should be working.  HELP!  Suggestion for the future...PLEASE do not institute a new system a day before the end of a contest.  It will be a shame if I cannot complete this hub that I have been working on in its entirety as it is one of the best ones I have ever done (in my opinion).
Our computer seems to be working in every other way...so not a computer issue.

Hi Peggy W  - your entry seems to have come through alright, and the photos look great, so I take it everything turned out OK?

            Hi Simone,

No...those were the ones already entered before the new photo capsule took effect.  I have many others that I have been unable to enter which is too bad regarding the contest which has now ended.  Whenever it starts working (just tried again with no luck!), I'll enter the others which will make the hub even better.

Simone,  I have a similar problem.  When I attempt to upload a photo it initially brings it in and shows it.  When I try to publish the hub, it locks up in a never ending loading.  I have to abandon the publish to get out of it which tosses me out of the system...for me this a step backwards. I am also having problems. I have been trying to publish a new Hub for two days but it just hangs saying 'loading' for hours. When I go to my account it logs me out and when I go back in all my changes have been lost. I am going round in circles - hope the problems can be ironed out soon.

I love HubPages - and the support you all put into the platform just rocks.  Anyhow - I did have a question and will need to possibly post elsewhere - it used to be that we could change the meta description.

I see that function is disabled now?  The "Summary" feature seems to be missing - or did I just miss it?

I just noticed it too. Its a shame that hubs with traffic can be fine tuned, but a dead hub remains dead forever (although of course the Title Tuner is a welcome addition!).

This may sound strange, but have you also put a circle around the page numbers in the forum threads? Or am I going crazy?

The suggestions are based on the searches that landed on your hub in the last 30 days.  If the hub has little or no search traffic, we can't provide any suggestions.  That doesn't mean you can't tune the title, of course, you just have to do it using the regular hub editor.

        1. profile image0
SirDentposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Can we update the title of hubs that are not yet published?  I ask because of a typo in a title of one of my unpublished hubs.

Edited: I found out that I can change the title but what about the url?

          1. Maddie Ruud profile image70
Maddie Ruudposted 14 years agoin reply to this

No, you cannot change the URL.  You wouldn't want to, anyway, as you probably have at least a few back links to the original URL, and it's the URL already ranked with Google.

            1. profile image0
SirDentposted 14 years agoin reply to this

I understand. The problem is that the hub I am speaking of is not yet published and the typo is in the url.  Oh well, I will just start over with it.  It's what I get for not taking time to check it for spelling errors before clicking continue.

              1. profile image0
ryankettposted 14 years agoin reply to this

All you have to do then is start a new hub, with the desired URL, and copy and paste the text over into the new page.

Ok, I have a small criticism with the Title Tuner.

Once you click on a title to expand (at which stage it gives you a suggestion for adding a word), there is no way to close the window which emerges (I suppose that is called collapse).

Could we have a collapse button? It has presented me with a list of about 50 hubs, it could be a nightmare to work with if I expand them all and cant collapse them again.

      1. profile image0
ryankettposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Ignore this. Just realised that as you expand another, it collapses the previous title.

        In that case, great!

Title tuner is great - works easily and MUCH faster than visiting each hub. I like seeing the search percentages as well.

I already have all my photos organized by publishing platform and article, etc. in an external, dedicated (storage) hard-drive, so I do not find the photo feature as useful.

As well, I did find the duplications a bit disconcerting. (Reminds me of Picasa, which also doesn't discriminate well.)

One great feature of the revised photo capsule though, is the added capability to quickly access photos and reuse photos in the same hub - I frequently use the same graphics for certain capsules in the HubNuggets round-up hubs, and have often wished there were a faster way to quickly and easily reuse an image.

Thanks for all your hard work! big_smilebig_smilebig_smile

Can you tell me what browser you are using? Or link me to a photo that you are trying to upload that does not work? If you can give me more details, I'll be happy to investigate. (Feel free to contact me via email through HubPages by going to my profile and clicking on "contact Fawntia.") Thanks!

HP HQ continues to develop and release quality tools that benefit the community. Well done!

I like http://hubpages.com/my/photos and it would be handy if the hub/s the image has been used in could be part of the information listed under each photo.

If you click on the photo, you can see where it's been used in the lightbox that opens up.  It's too expensive to calculate that for every photo on the page (and it would clutter things up).

I accidentally discovered the new features about two hours ago.  (At first I thought there was some big thing about pictures that I've been missing for "ages" .  Glad to know I haven't just been oblivious to something that's been around for awhile.   lol  Like them both (although, for now, a little overwhelmed by the picture thing 'til I get to know it better).

Title tuner suggested 5 of my hubs to add a word or 2 which definitely were relative to my hub and I used them. Thanks!!!!!!!! For creating a useful tool A+++++

My photos I deleted some but only 2 deleted so maybe I did it to fast but I surely want to delete some that take up extra space on the server if this helps at all. A+++++

Wow and I just noticed the add photo image tab to this reply sweet!!!

Have just had a look at the new features and really like the title turner.  It has suggested four of my hubs of which I have been able to tweak three.  Watch and wait now to see what happens.

Both of the new features are great, thanks hubpages.

The photo update doesn't do much for me - my subjects vary widely with every hub.

However, I LOVE the new title tuner. So much easier than visiting each hub. Thanks!

IS it, or will it be possible to set a preference for how the photo capsule opens? Right now the tab is set to open in the new "myPhotos" area, and I would like to change the default to the "upload" tab. Will this be possible at some point?

I, too, had a problem with some of the photos staying, when I loaded them from the MyPhotos. Once I uploaded them from my computer, they held beautifully. I used Firefox, by the way, and find the new interface loads photos much faster than the old photo capsule interface - at least so far wink

As well, will we be able to re-order the photos by clicking and dragging them to a new position within the capsule, as we could do with the old interface? That was much handier than deleting and reloading photos.

It is not currently possible to choose a different default tab in the photo capsule. We'll think about doing that, or maybe switching to the upload tab by default if that's what most people prefer.

I am not sure what you mean by your photos not "staying" when you loaded them from My Photos. Are you saying that after adding a photo from My Photos and saving the capsule, the photo did not save correctly? Please report the problem with more details in the Report a Problem forum.

You can still reorder your photos by dragging and dropping, just as you did before.

I love the title tuner. I've just been looking at it and it came up with some pretty good ideas. I just don't have the time to analyse all my hubs in enough depth to notice some of this stuff - like one of the suggestions I got just involved changing a 'from' to a 'with', or others were just adding in one or two words that I didn't think of to start with.

      Big thumbs up from me.

Here's a dilemma that the Title Tuner is giving me. On a couple of occasions the tuner has suggested some mispelled words, that are far more popular than the correctly spelled words!

Should I amend the title with the mispelled word?! As I writer I don't want to compromise my writing for traffic, but if the mispelled word gets a lot more traffic.....what to do???!!!

      1. kephrira profile image61
kephriraposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Don't add the misspelling to the title, but write it into the description in addition to the correct spelling if you can. Also add it as a tag.

Love the new photos feature.  I know it's a bit cheeky, but I can already see ways it could be made even better:

      1.  Let us name our own albums

      2.  There's an option to use the photo in a new Hub - how about the option to use it in an existing Hub?

      1. Fawntia profile imageSTAFF
Fawntiaposted 14 years agoin reply to this

        1. You can type any name you want in the album field, and a new album by that name will be created. The automatically generated albums are just there to give you a head start in organizing your photos, should you desire to.

        2. To use a photo in an existing Hub, you can go to the Hub and open a photo capsule to see and select from the photos in My Photos.

I hope that this is helpful.
