Hairstyles in Ancient Greece
In the ancient Minoan civilization the women wore their hair long with elaborately fashioned locks. This is probably because the women advertised their marital status with their locks.
“If you hear that someone is speaking ill of you, instead of trying to defend yourself you should say: "He obviously does not know me very well, since there are so many other faults he could have mentioned"”
Epictetus quotes (Greek philosopher associated with the Stoics, AD 55-c.135)
hahahaha OK-I'll try to remember that one!
Here's my latest addition to the poetry entries. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying reading some of yours.

My latest photo entry is a trip I took last minute to the island of Majorca with my friend Vanessa. An island that many might not get to see properly outside of its karaoke bars and British pubs and the like. I hope you enjoy it and the accompanying story:

Just curious: Does anyone know how many total entries there have been thus far? ???
In an earlier hub, I wrote about color and the human mind. Several readers liked it. they also wanted to know about personality types in regard to color preference.
So,I entered this informative hub as a poem, so it would not be stale with clinical jargon. I had entered it into the contest.

First time forum poster. I wrote 2 contest entries but changed the category after the initial posting; (confused) and now I can't seem to find them in the contest anywhere. Any ideas on why?
Anyway let me have your feedback )
Thanks in advance.

Also any idea how I can change my username as I set this one back in the day when ' . ' was allowed and now it looks really bad
The pictures are lovely, very nostalgic. However they are in the wrong category for the contest. They need to be in Photo Galleries. Follow the link from the Official Contest page. Thanks, Hyphenbird.

My first entry for today. It is Chapter 18 of my Creative Writing Serial. Please check it out and give me your opinion. It seems we are transitioning to a colony of monks as I have seen very few comments on my entries, so I do not know if people are not taking time or just have no opinion.

I keep looking in my PayPal account, but it seems to be empty
My fourth entry is a combination short story, (okay, not so short, as usual) photo gallery, and a bit of crude poetry too!

Hi folks. I've just published my fourth entry in the photo galleries category of the HubPages competition. It's a gallery of some of my plant and flower photos with a little advice for all who want to attempt this kind of photography for the first time. I hope if you take the time to take a look at the page you'll find the advice useful, and the pictures attractive. Many thanks in advance, Alun.

I just posted something a bit different for me - a (I hope) somewhat humorous consideration of the state of contemporary American television . . . I would really appreciate feedback that would help me to determine if I should pursue this manner of writing, or leave it to others -

To my fellow Hubbers, Hubber-ettes, and occasional Google visitors.
This has been the first time I have ever entered a writing competition and I have found the experience to be exhilarating. I have enjoyed the writing process and I have loved the (very small slice) of other entries I have been able to read!
The following story, The Ghost of William Hurt, represents my fifth (and final) entry into the contest. The idea for the story was borne from a casual conversation, too much caffeine, and too little sleep. If I were to give it a rating I would give it an ‘R’ for strong language and disturbing mental images.
An additional caution should be raised for those die-hard fans of William Hurt and Sarah Palin. My hope is that this piece will be accepted as it was written...tongue-in-cheek.
I look forward to having the time now to read more entries. Good luck to all who entered!
I hope you enjoy this.

Yes, you are adorable, emichael.
Great hub, Susan. Those Newfoundlands are adorable, too.
For some reason, I'm just finding this thread. Better late than never. Here are the two entries I've posted so far. I guess since I haven't heard anything about my poem, which I published a week or so ago, I didn't win that one.

I just published this photo gallery yesterday, so maybe I have a fighting chance.

This hub is about Atalaya, the winter retreat of the sculptor, Anna Hyatt Huntington. It's a beautiful place on the coast of South Carolina. It's easy to imagine her working on her amazing life sized sculptures here.

Great hub and wonderful photo gallery. I'm definitely adding this as one of my must see places when I'm in Hilton Head Island!
Thanks for visiting - I'm sure you'll love Atalaya!
We no doubt have a serious issue here..................
Thanks for the giggles. I need it after reading so many wonderful poems about love, and loss and dragons amd sexy nights and sexy girls and canoes and castles and mothers and babies and highschool girls, fishing trips, love affairs with the moon, thunderous nights, sirens and the sea, pixies and on and forever more.
I'm almost done reading the first batch! You guys and gals rock!

THE MAGIC: A Short Story
My second entry into the poetry contest as a non poet really - but I'm trying and if nothing else, this is a little tribute to my little buddy, Angus who brought so much to me. This is a true story about how a dog was sent by heaven to save a man who saved a dog. I hope you enjoy.

Here is my third entry. This time, it's a short story. Not quite flash fiction, this on is a bit over 1,000 words.
