I'm considering setting up a Pinterest 'group' called Best of Hubpages.
The idea is that I'll make it a collaborative group (you'd have to friend me) and everyone could add their own personal favorites to the group (check with other hubbers for permission). NO moderation required - if you like any of the articles in the group then 're-pin' it to your own personal groups.
If you are interested let me know, or 'friend me' on Pinterest. Username: simeycook
yes, i am very interested about that. i will create an account then I will friend you. Thanks
Im game handle there is authorfre, any and all friend me there and I'll reciprocate
I've blocked my Hubs from being "pinned" because I use Flickr images on all my Hubs. I feel it's my responsibility to protect the photographers of those images from having their images stolen.
I only pin my own photos or photos where they have a creative commons license! or I check with the author of the article if I have permission to Pin their article....
All the photos I use are creative commons licensed, but that requires me to credit the photographer. If I allow it to be pinned on Pinterest, it's likely the credit won't be included when it's repinned. That means I'm wilfully setting up a situation where the license is likely to be breached, and I'm not comfortable with that.
Besides, as I've just discovered, links on Pinterest are now "No Follow" - so if the purpose of pinning is to get backlinks, it's no longer effective.
Where it's a Creative Commons picture I am trying to add the same reference that I do on a hub - most of the pictures I use now are public domain so no reference is required! As for backlinks - I'm not using pinterest for backlinks - I'm actually trying to use the site as it was intended and sharing my content and checking out other people's content - the hope is that interested people will check out my articles. I note that I also upload pictures with no link to any article etc..
I've never been good at backlinking anyway!
Yes, and if I was going to do that, I'd do the same. The point is that on Pinterest, other members are encouraged to "repin" your pins - and when they do, your reference disappears. That's why photographers are up in arms about the site, because so many members are giving away their photos without realizing it.
I do understand why people use the site, I'm just disappointed at the way Pinterest has set it up. You do know that they also claim the right to keep AND SELL all images that are pinned?
Agreed. I wrote a Wizz on this very topic.
Really, unless the photo is your own work, you should be pinning it directly from the source, not a link back to the source.
I really need a better understanding of Pinterest. Does anyone have a hub I can read that explains how it works?
Can anyone give me an invitation on Pinterest. I don't have an account.
Sounds good to me. I am just learning about Pinterest and do have an account but haven't done anything with it yet.
Annasshad, we'll need your email address to send you an invite.
I'm all in!
Hi simeycook, just got my invitation from pinterest. I would like to join your group :-)
I'm in, I just started following you, simeycook
I just started following you on pintrest.
Can you, or someone invite me to pinterest?
I'm interested and I just friended you. My username on Pinterest isn't wordscribe43, however. Hint: it starts with my real name "Laura".
I havent set myself up there yet but I think Im going to!
Im in thanks SimeyC - always on top of your game making sure I stay there as well
Good idea, my Pinterst account is under luisegonzalez..............
Great idea, Simey. I was hoping after publishing my Pinterest blog post yesterday that some Hubbers would get together to collaborate.
You can find me on Pinterest at maddieruud. (What an original username, right?)
Group created: everone added who's friended me - let me know if you friend me and I'll add you so you are able to add content!
feel free to add your best hubs!
my username in pinterest is mutiny92 - and I am following your board.
I like it. I started following it and your pins SimeyC. I am KayleighA14 on Pinterest.
Just started to follow you as well my user account is: http://pinterest.com/racheleli5/
Ok, I think I added you correctly but I don't see my pic. Let me know if I did it wrong or need to do something else. Thanks for doing this!
I seem to be having problems adding more than five people to edit the group - so if you want a Hub added let me know until I fix things - send me it through my profile!
Its a fun site, just finished coding the share button into Xobba today. Been playing around with it for a couple of weeks now.
Before you expend huge amounts into the site for any reason other then just fun, keep in mind its similar to any bookmark site, but with even less chances of the user actually clicking through and reading (outside of the sites demo).
HP did point out that Pinterest made it to the top ten referral sites to Hubpages, so certainly a great many people ARE (at least) clicking through.
This may be helpful: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/pint … ies/36951/ (although, links have been changed to "nofollow" since that article was written)
I'm seeing decent clickthroughs on a few of my hubs already - especially where I am taking the time to connect with other non-HP users!
Are your view increases accompanied by an equal increase in earnings?
(I forget sometimes that HP has an impression based program, so i suppose any view will do )
shrug .. ive seen very excited marketers and writers discussing pinterest for weeks now, with near rabid time devotion , I just don't see the long term value for article writers and aff marketers. There are plenty of types of sites that it will be great for, Im not seeing the match here.
But! do take a look at what the current site demographic is - if your content fits their interests!
LOL well compared to my total views a day -NADA! BUt compared to my Social Site traffic - good! I'd say I got about 50 visits today - started using today - and they are 'organic' visits from people interested in the Hub! If it keeps up, and increases then I'd say it is a success - more likely to be a one-off spike for new 'pins'!
Recent research shows that Pinterest drives more referral traffic than either Twitter or Facebook. (That's not on HP, that's web-wide, for the record.)
Its a great tool for say one of my Artist portfolio sites with products available and related facebook group etc. Could get genuine Fans to return and interact and remember the site. Or a recipe sharing community ...
Just clicking through to a single article? Again, I forget HP uses Impression based ads, but long term value of a user who goes "ooh, look a pretty picture" not likely to be high. Chance of commercial sales from the "ooh a pretty picture" referral not very high, Chance of adsense click ... even less likely as they probably are itching to get back to pinterest to see more pretty pictures!
Sources for recent research?
I've been following studies and having my own fun for awhile now and I enjoy the site and don't expect it to lose popularity!, just throwing out a reality check. A referral is as good as the scope in which they arrive.
Here is detailed account of some ways to interact with Pinterest that may provide long term value:
I was trying to focus on the "and reading" part, our stats will show referrals, but I know (just like google images) that when Im clicking through, Im just doing it to see a fuller sized image
Ok, I'll let you know. I also have had GREAT success with getting views from Pinterest. I think that my best ones have been teacher related hubs. There are a lot of teachers on Pinterest!
OK was a problem with IE9! Added users in Firefox - let me know if you don't have rights to the group!
Hi Simey! I see that you added me to the Pinterest group. Thanks! ~Marissa
I'm interested, I went to the site and asked for an "invite," then got an e-mail saying I was "on the waiting list" for a invitation... ??? Well, whenever I get the official go-ahead, you all will see me on there.
OK I've just "Followed" you on your Pintrest Hub Pages. Not quite sure how this works - do I need to do anything else?
By the way, I love Pinterest, so clever and attractive, I spend hours surfing it - I've never seen a website like it, although one of the people in this thread says there are lots of similar things. I have certainly had lots of people visiting my webpages via my photos on Pinterest.
Just added you as well - you should now be able to add your best hubs to the group!
I know how to add Pins to my own Board, but I don't know how to add them to the Group Board, so please can you explain what I ned to do next. So far I don't see any Pins there except yours. I liked the Unblocking Drains one.
Oh, forget I ever asked you - I have just discovered the Group board 9s showing up on my own boards - eerie!
Also, I see that there are other pins apart from yours. I wish I could cancel my last comment, but there doesn't appear to be a delete button for already-published idiotic comments
I'm following you on Pinterest and my user name is Donna Cosmato. I pin lots of HubPages hubs there and they have been extremely popular with my friends, especially the tattoo ones.
I'm in as well. This is a great idea. I have been on Pinterest for a month now and I think it is a great site. Should be very useful for promoting HubPages too.
I will work on Pinterest every evening - doesn't work properly at my office on IE7!!!
I note that the group is being used to post all articles from a Hubpage writer - is this what people want? Only Hubpage members can post to the group, but they can pin any article from any Hubpage member? or should it be restricted to only Hubpage articles?
I can change the Group Name to "Best articles by Hubpage Writers"
Hi SimeyC - I got my "invite" to Pinterest today, and have just made an account - if I did everything right, then I'm now "following" you and the "best of Hubpages" group... let me know if there's anything else I need to do before I contribute anything...?? Thanx
I added you to the group - you should be able to add hubpages now!
I just added another group:
Best Non Hubpage articles by Hubpage users
with the same permissions as the group:
Best of Hubpages
Ooooh I just saw the 'pin' button appear at the top of all hubs! Great addition!
Are you on Pinterest? If so let me know your username - 'friend me' - and I'll give you permissions to the Group.
Do you understand what you are agreeing to?
A lot of members do not, it seems to me.
Here's my advice - go ahead an pin your own content ensuring you have full rights to any photos you are using. However, if you want to pin someone else's content then seek their permission first AND check that they have the rights to the pictures they are using....
Hi, does it really take long before i get an invitation on pinterest?
Not sure - I joined up a long time ago and never used it! I can send you an invite if you let me know your email address (contact me via my profile)
Great idea! I just joined a little over a week ago. Just followed you My user name is Alissa Roberts.
Hi Simey, I'll be happy to join you on Pinterest, as soon as I get an invite.
Me, too! Thank you for the opportunity, Simey. Appreciate it! I just left you an email.
If I've missed adding anyone, let me know and I'll add! Sorry if I missed anyone - not intended - just getting old here!
Pinterest is growing like Facebook 5 years ago. Will soon be listed after Facebook in top social networks.
Hmmm - not sure about this group now - it's likely to become a dumping ground and perhaps should be rename Articles of Hubpages.
I'd still like to have a 'Best of Hubpages' group. Here are my ideas:
-Any contest winners, Hubnuggets, hubs of the day etc could be added (with permission from relevant authors).
-Any worthy hubpages should be listed in the forum and get at least '5' agreements from other hubbers.
-Only I and members of the Hubpages team should be allowed to add to the group - or only the hubpages team....
The problem I have is that I cannot stop anyone I give permission to use the group from posting anything they want.....
I like that you changed it to Articles of Hubpages because I did sort of notice the same thing. I wonder, is HP going to create a Pinterest account? If so, then Hubs of the day, selected (not random drawing) contest winners would be good. That way they can identify the quality of hubs that are put on there on a "Best of" board.
Also, the category is important. If you want the hub to reach other pinterest people they might not see it if it's just under "articles of Hubpages." For example, if that board is categorized as education, then if a recipe is posted on the board then people following the recipe category but not necessarily this board would not find it.
So maybe there needs to be separate boards for HP articles depending on the topic. Just a thought. I hope that made sense.
Sort of related to the discussion...
I've been pinning stuff and not got any interest. Hey ho, it's par for my internet marketing course.
Just had a look at my view and there's a picture of a blue bowl, sort of ornament I suppose, the typical useless crap that someone might buy to put on a mantelpiece - and it has something like 45 Likes.
So it obviously works for some things.
45 likes. For a f**king picture of a bowl. 'scuse my French.
edit: Picture of a bag. 50 repins. 50!!! For a bag? I'm doing something very wrong. Perhaps I'll take a picture of my scrotum and try that.
My heavens Mark, I am ROFLMBO! I was laughing so hard that my kids ran out of the other room into my living room asking me what was so funny that they want to laugh too. Oh my gosh that was so funny!
Take a picture of something more appealing than a bag or a bowl, so please, for the love of everything holy, don't take a picture of something...less appealing.
I cannot stop laughing with that last sentence of yours. I need to get out of the house and do some shopping. Anything. Why does "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" come to mind? I am in tears. I have to go. What if no one likes your picture??? Will you try another body part???
Hello friends my username at pinterest is same - soni2006. here is the link pinterest.com/soni2006, I am not hyperlinking it as it is against the HP rules and I am following more than 50 hubbers from HP and already created a pinboard called "nice places to hangout with family and friends". Now can you please tell me how to join your "articles of hubpages" group?
I will add you to the group tonight - doesn't work on IE7 at work!
BTW I renamed the Group - articles of Hubpages.
Hey Simey, not sure if you saw my post up a few spots in reply to your original question about changing the name of the board. Just a couple thoughts about the boards/categories.
I agree with your thoughts.
The biggest problem we'd have is how do we 'maintain' the boards - if someone posts into the incorrect category only they can move it.
I'm more inclined to have the main 'Articles of Hubpages' board - then if someone likes an article they should repin it to one of their own boards.
Hubpages (and/or me) should then maintain a Best of Hubpages board based on Contest winners, Hubs of the Day and Hubnuggets.....
One point though - it doesn't matter what the board is as long as you apply proper SEO techniques to the description of the picture...
Thanks for this idea. I tried to join pinterest through facebook and clicked writers on hubpages but it seems I've done some mistake. Kindly, let me know how to join it and how to add you as friend. I am very much interested in joining this group created by you.
I'm interested! I haven't joined Pinterest yet, but once I do, I'll add you. thanks
I only get one or two uninspired repins every time I pin a hub. Paradigmsearch has concluded that his hubs aren't geared towards a 95% female audience. Paradigmsearch wanders away in confusion...
I'll follow you for a bit. Compared to the crap that I'm getting from the Facebook lot that I seemed to automatically follow it can't be worse.
Sorry. To rephrase. It isn't worse, I checked.
I followed you back. I didn't know you were a google juggler.
Sssh. That sort of thing could go viral.
At least I can guarantee you there won't be a whole lot of stuff flooding your inbox. The occasional 'funny' or even a sales pic maybe.
Some people are putting hundreds, thousands of pictures up. I'm stopping following people when all I can see are their sales pics. It's like the worst kind of unsolicited garbage through your letterbox.
In my opinion.
I agree. I repin one pic and as I check today. I got tons of emails from pinterest. So I decided to just create another email account to entertain those unwanted mails.
I'm relegating pinterest to the likes of FB, twit, and tumblr. I'll throw a link or two at them every day, but that's about it.
I just found this excellent pic of a very dead cat. To pin? Or not to pin? That is the question.
Is it available in different colours? Or just in time for Xmas? Can you perhaps get a half naked woman to pose next to it? Are there three different recipes you can make with it to feed a family of four? Can you knit small characters for an Easter whatever from the fur? Perhaps a hat?
I can't suss it either...
LOL I've found some nice pictures of castles and walkways to pin - and lots of recipes....
This got 17 repins and 9 likes.
I think the median age of the 95% female audience is around 12 to 18 years old. That would pretty much explain everything.
Will add everyone to the 'Articles on Hubpages' group tonight.
Maybe I should rename the group 'Pretty Pink Group' or 'Justin Bieber is Hot' group?

After a little more testing we've just opened up another new feature that went out yesterday -- a HubPages widget that you can add to your blog or website. To grab the code, just go to your profile page and you should see a link in the right hand column. You can see an example of it in action...

We added the Pinterest "Pin It" button to the small collection of popular social-sharing buttons at the top of Hubs on Thursday. Pinterest has rapidly become one of the largest social media traffic drivers to HubPages, already substantially larger than Twitter and Reddit. Maddie wrote a...

I chose to not have my stuff pinned on Pinterest, so I do not know the answer to my question. I am just curious. Do you feel that Pinterest, with recipes, images, and other pins, diverts traffic from your hubs? What if you wrote a recipe hub and the recipe was pinned to Pinterest, and someone...

I suspect folks are getting worried about the move from subdomains and while we can't say what will happen with every page, a loss of traffic at this stage isn't unusual.I put together this Hub on the process. http://hubpages.com/business/What-Happe … Large-SiteIf you are really...

I could be the last person alive in the dark on this but in case I’m not:I just found out you can add hashtags to your pins on Pinterest, so last night I did a little experiment. I pinned all my articles to a Pinterest board and made a little portfolio. Then I hashtagged a few of the pins....
