What pet do you have or have you had that's been the best/closest to you,

I had a Boston Terrier named Slade, he passed away not quite a year ago. I miss him terribly, he was the last christmas present my dad gave me before he passed away. That little dog was with me through many hard times, he'll never be forgotten.

A wonderful Golden Retriever named Samantha. We called her Sam. She was an angel. She died 5 years ago, but I think about her all the time.

A golden retriever named Samantha. She was the sweetest, smartest dog I ever had. We were so bonded that, when she died a few years ago, I couldn't talk about her for a year without crying.

I also had a Boston I had to put down last July - she was 13. They're really good dogs, great size too. I now have a Staffordshire Terrier (well, actually he's 5, had him while she was still alive).

My Boston was only 4 when he died, but i don't think he was well breed. The place we got him from looked like a puppy mill sad but i coulsn't just leave him there. I curently have a Boxer Joda and a Pit Bull Bowser. They are both great dogs but that little Boston will always hold a special plae in my heart.

My pound puppy Roy. He's a big 90 lb snuggling lab who sits on my feet, climbs on the couch or bed to cuddle up to me, and thinks I'm the best thing in the world. What's not to love? (his pic is on my hub about dog breeds...i couldn't resist!)

The first was a cat that wondering into our family garage when I was 9 years old. She lived 26 years...
The second was a cat I picked out of a litter of kittens after another cat disappeared.

Probably my two adult beardies. My grandfather who loved reptiles and had a passion for them, left them to me. I still have them so I continue to grow fond of them. They love relaxing on my shoulder to watch tv.

My closest pet was the Redbone cross in my profile picture. I got him when I was almost nine years old and he was only two days old. His mother died right after giving birth, so I bottlefed the litter and kept him. That dog was the first I ever obedience trained (I've now trained hundreds), I showed him in 4-H for 10 years, and he used to go everywhere with me. Many people have commented on how close we were, that dog would never let me out of his sight unless he absolutely had to. He passed away just two months ago at the age of 15.

My two best friends were Emma a chocolate lab and Pumpkin a big orange tabby.  I was lucky enough to have them both in my life at the same time...however that meant they both left me at about the same time.  I could say they broke my heart, but that would dishonor our love for each other.  They enriched my life and still do by their memories.

My cat Pif, he followed me to school and waited for me ...

The only thing he didn't have was voice to speak...so smart!

Hard choice. Had a fantastic german shepherd and now a bengal. Both fabulous animals.

I have also aqcuired two ducks in my local park and a pigeon on my apartment window sill. They're not very fabulous though.

And none will respond to voice commands.

This is very hard for me...  But, I will have to say my 16 year-old cat that passed away last year named Roscoe.  He was my "first" cat I owned all by myself.  He was a feisty little beast sometimes, but I rather enjoyed how he could hold his own.  In fact, he was dog-like.  We got even closer when he developed diabetes and I had to keep a close eye on him.  I almost lost him twice and brought him back.  In the end, he died of intestinal cancer.  I still miss him dearly.

Our Chocolate lab named Diesel passed away about 3 weeks ago.  He was 11 and the best friend anyone could ever ask for.

I never thought I would miss a pet but everyday I cant believe how hard it is around the house without him.

I have a hub on here about him.

It was a tragic loss to all of us

I am so sorry babedoll.  I feel for you, we've had 2 recent losses.  My dog died last Halloween and it's been miserable.  I am so very sorry and understand how lonely it is around the house.  Hang in there.

My current cat Boo is the one I am closest to. He is so much more affectionate than any other cat I have had. He's almost like a dog in that he follows me all around the apartment.

I wrote a hub about him:

I’ve had several dogs and cats in my family and all of them have been special. I miss them all very much when they pass away, but I was closest to Sam, my golden retriever, and Nicholas, one of my rescue cats. I love all my pets, but those are the two whose deaths most upset me.
