   Anyone who reads the Koran will see the long litany of violent verses calling for death to the infidel, death to those who won't convert, the wars of conquest and taking of slaves.
   And while Jesus called for peace, Mohammed led war parties and selected women among the captured as his own sex slaves.

   Muslims have two eyes, one nose, one ear, one heart, two lungs, two arms, two legs and everything exactly same I have.
   As I live in India where in some parts of the country, Muslims are treated really bad and reason for this is the present 'time'.
   Thing I know about Muslims?
   Muslims have too much faith in God. They pray a lot. They wear traditional clothes. Some Muslims are of very good nature while few are arrogant and those arrogant one's dont like to talk much with people of other religion. Muslim kids are very sweet and so are the ladies.
   Had i visited and Muslim country?
   No, But I live in India which has the 3rd largest muslim population, much more than iraq, iran, syria, saudia arabia etc. So i know to some extent how muslims live.
   i ever dealt with a muslim?
   yes, many times. I had a muslim friend who was of very sweet nature and always helped others. I had a female friend too. She was very pretty. She was good friend of mine when we were kids but after she crossed 16, she became very arrogant and ignored me. She lives near my house but we never talked for years.
   Media mislead the truth?
   I don't thinks so. Terroist groups and their activites mislead the truth.
   This is my personal excperience and thoughts.

   I have been to a Mosque before and had a nice discussion with the gentlemen who were at prayer there about the nature of what they believe about God.
   
   However I do not know much about Muslims outside the United States and the statistics generally suggest that their culture is very different from our own, to say the least. The idea of Sharia Law is widespread in the Muslim world while the idea of a religious based law is the opposite of what we strive for here in America. In the US we have separation of the law and religion so that people are free to be whatever faith they want, or no faith at all, this is not the case in some Muslim countries.
   
   As an atheist I do not believe the supernatural aspects of what Muslims believe (obviously) but just like the Bible the Quran contains many barbaric passages. It is important that if Islam wishes to be a religion of peace it does not practice these violent verses and instead ignores them as Christians have learned to do.
   
   Muslims are people, like anyone else, they deserve respect. But that does not mean that I must respect beliefs which I do not myself hold, such as religious beliefs. All people deserve respect, beliefs only deserve respect if they match up with reality (are true).

      I have seen many Muslims speak at churches for "interfaith outreach". Given how much the Koran hates on Christians and Jews, I'd like to see rabbis, ministers and priests in mosques as speakers - anything less is cultural colonization by Muslims.

   I know that Muslims should not all be grouped together and assumed to be the same as their worst group of "representatives".
   
   One of my best friends is a Muslim and she's one of the smartest, kindest, most genuine people that I know and I'm very, very fortunate to have her in my life.  Growing up she invited me to a lot of events she participated in through her mosque and it was a great way to get a small peek into her religion and culture.  Her house was my second home when I was in high school and her family is just as kind and welcoming as she is. 
   
   I have a few other friends who are Muslims and again are wonderful people (if they weren't they wouldn't be my friends!).  So my personal experiences with Muslims have been nothing but positive. 
   
   I have a German friend who now lives in an Islamic country and she feels very comfortable there for the most part.  There are some laws which I would certainly not approve of but some Islamic countries seem to be working towards more tolerance and basic human rights - hopefully the rest follow. 
   
   I think some media definitely projects its own biases but objective reporting shouldn't and wouldn't misrepresent anything.  I think people tend to form their own judgments based on what they see/hear, even if what they see/hear doesn't directly suggest that those judgments are correct.

   I have personally known a handful of Muslims in my life. Each one of them were kind.
   The media here in the USA is just looking for a scare tactic and Muslims fit that scenario for now because the majority of Americans know little to nothing about Muslims.
   Personally there is no difference to me religious speaking compared to a Christian. They both worship gods I do not believe in. They both have extremists. They both have good people.
   To me all that matters is that people are good, and just like the majority of Christians, Catholics, Mormons, and Atheists are good people, the majority of Muslims are good people too.
   When I watch our news I wonder how awful it must make Muslims feel. Comparing all Muslims to terrorists is like comparing all Christians to the Westboro Baptist church (google it if you don't know, they are crazy extremists.)
   So if you are a Muslim, I hope you know the whole western world does not hate you. Just the ignorant ones who are incapable of either looking past the media, their favorite politician, or their own religion. And quite honestly you probably don't want those people to like you anyway!

   I have worked with Muslims. I found them to be quite human. Aside from their religion, they are exactly like every other human on the planet.
   But I do find Islam (and ALL religions) to be illogical. I don't see any proof of a god or gods, only human delusions about the universe and how the natural world really works. Religion has been passed down by primitive people trying to make sense of their world. Religion isn't the answer. There is no "magic" creator god.
   Yes, the media demonizes many people, races, and cultures. Only realists ever research the facts before accepting the biased news sources.

   I have known very few Muslims.  I had some co-workers in Seattle who were Muslim, and I've come across an occasional one here and there.  They're just like everyone else.
   According to my research, Muslims are very progressive thinkers.  They escaped the Bubonic plague that ravaged Europe during the dark ages, because they maintained the knowledge the Romans had.  It is only recently they became known as terrorists.
   I hope the people in the upper echelons of Islam do something about these terrorists soon, because they are ruining the religion altogether!

   I live in a diverse community which includes Muslims. We shop in the same grocery stores. Some of the checkers in the stores where I shop are Muslim women who wear the hijab. My community has a mosque, and an Islamic cultural center. There have been a few incidents of rednecks either vandalizing it, or protesting outside, and they've quickly been countered by people from the community pitching in to help clean up, or counter protesting and escorting families who don't feel safe.
   
   I also read portions of the Quran for a philosophy class many years ago. I don't suppose that would happen today. Even then, many students refused to read any religious books that weren't the Bible.

    Otherwise, responsible media outlets try to report what both sides have to say about any issue including Islamic extremism.

    Hi Rola, from your name it is clear to me that you are a Muslim like me. Some of us as Muslims, have your feelings that some international media speak in an offensive and generalized way about all Muslims, only for the ugly acts of handful stupid, ignorant and misled guys who claim Islam as their religion. Personally, I do not blame the Non-Muslim in the street of some European cities for the shaky images, that might breed in their minds about Muslims in general or I slam. We know that such ugly acts are no doubt contrary to what we daily read in our religious prayers, citations of the holy Quran and the teachings of our prophet (PBUH).
    
    We have in many Muslims countries many Non-Muslims working with us in our workplaces and are domiciled in Muslims' countries, enjoying the life with their families and exchange with us mutual respect. In fact each of us perform his religious prayers and beliefs in peace, and when we hear the acts of violence attributed to some of those extremists in some other Non-Muslims countries, or even in Muslims countries like Syria, Libya or Iraq we feel sorrow and pain.
    
    I think instead of asking Non- Muslims on what they know about Muslims, we should ask ourselves how to get rid of any extreme and wrongful ideas that breed in minds of some Muslims youths who are misled and are dreaming of imposing certain way of live and to take the law forcibly in their own hands.

    What the media portrays is defenitly a false representation of who Muslims actually are and what they stand for. We live in a society where a power source has to validate normality. Islam means peace, and yes while I do admit there are bad Muslims out there, similarly their are other other bad people from other religions too.     While serving as an Army Infantryman I toured the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City. The woman who conducted the tour made the mistake of marrying a Moslem in London and has had no communication with her parents in many years now.  Moslems worship death.  If they can't find a Jew, Christian or infidel to kill they kill other Moslems even family.  It has become obvious to me "Allah" is just another name for Satan.  Together with False Prophet Jesuit Pope Francis and Kenyan-born Obama the Antichrist they form the unholy trinity of these last days.  Prepare for martial-law and get ready for The Rapture!

    What I know about Muslims is what I learn from the children I teach. They are mostly respectful and hard working kids. What concerns me the most is when a child tells me he is depressed and I eventually find out it is because he doesn't believe in the Islam religion any more but can never tell his parents. He is 16 years old, but is not allowed to decide for himself. He trusted me enough to tell me but he can't trust that his parents will understand. That doesn't make sense to me.

    Islam is a religious system begun in the seventh century by Muhammad. Muslims follow the teachings of the Qur’an and strive to keep the Five Pillars. Muslims despise dogs.  You will not see a Muslim family even pet a neighbor's dog.  The Muslim considers the dog to be a filthy animal like pigs and not to be touched or it will defile them.  So the Muslim next door will not pet your dog for they will despise it just as they will despise you for being an infidel non-Muslim.  Keep your dog on a leash! Islamic women will walk around in your town as if they are in a Muslim nation.  They will wear Islamic clothing.  They will not be like the typical American woman in high-heels and fashionable clothing.  see here

    Muslims are not the extremist or there is no place for extremism in Islam. Everyone has their equal rights. Muslim women has their right to get education and to get successful as men does. But their are some genuine restrictions on them to get Pardah. Men should respect women and give them their rights.
    Islam carries and conveys the love and discipline thoughts everywhere as what The Holy Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H) said and what does the Holy book Quran describes.
    Most of the people says that there are some terrorist wings in Islam like ISIS or TALIBANs. But Islam has no wings and it does not allow any bloodshed of innocents. and even there is no place for them in Islam.
    Islam is the only religion which carries the actual meaning for love and peace. The muslims which do not obey it, they are not the part of this Religion.
    Although there are many branches of Islam. But everyone believes in one God "ALLAH".
    Muslims do offer prayers 5 times in a day, their are many mosques all over the world for offering prayers as Muslims believe that the purpose of people on the Earth is not just only to earn money or to get successful either you must not forget your God or the God is not just for your hard times. Allah is everywhere.
    Every muslim has fardh to perform hajj atleast once in their life.
    The Holy Quran says that "The Holy Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H) is the last messenger of Allah no one will be after him till the judgment day".

    There are Muslim store owners in my area and they are great people. The terrorists are exploiting this religion, and giving it a bad name to the ignorant and uninformed. These are the means that they wish to divide us, to spark anger and discontent. As a Muslim, and for other Muslims, it is your duty and job to work to defeat the terror being spread by the radicals, along with Americans. I see no Muslim leaders, of any sort, on the battle lines working toward this. This I see as a major issue, and must happen for the advancement of the Muslim communities in America.

    I know that they are generally peaceful people but are generalized as terrorists because of a few groups. Groups that take the Quran's texts as either too seriously or as a tool for their own political agendas.
    
    With that said all of the Muslims I have met seem like very sweet people. It's just a shame that the media tries to create fear mongering by making them all seem because of a few bad apples.

       Well if the quran does incite violence then islam is bad and muslims would be too. See most followers of all religions are not devout but rather passive. In islam the devout ones if true to the text can be considered terrorists.

    I live in Houston, Texas and volunteer at Houston Methodist Hospital.  Houston is a large diverse city with many mosques, cathedrals, churches and temples. Houston Methodist Hospital has an Islamic Prayer Room.  All get along.
    I believe Mohammad (PBUH) was a prophet and God is One without partners.  Does that make me Muslim? I also believe the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) fell from Grace when he picked up the sword. Am I Muslim?

    I met a family of muslims once. They are very conservative of their customs and behave accordingly to their religion. I know from experience that, among people and cultures, there is always certain type of intolerance against certain customs.
    
    Muslims are well respected people and those who are not, have gone in a different direction than that of their religion and become intolerant to other customs.

    I know a lot of Muslims and have spent several years in a Muslim country. Muslim people want pretty much the same things as people in Western countries. As in most places, the vast majority are decent and honest. I do think Fox News and right-wing media misrepresents Muslims. Are there terrorist Muslim organizations? Absolutely. Are they the only murderers? Absolutely not. Your Christian neighbor with a gun is a bigger threat to you and your family and is more likely to kill you.

       It seems to me there is a simple solution.  Place an overriding principle in the Quran and Bible that Man/Woman should not harm another Man/Woman.  Any writing that breaches this principle is Not Scripture.  Police do arrest people without harm.

        Rewriting the quran is not gonna work. It is dark and it is what all its followers have been abiding by or supposedly abiding by. That wouldn't make sense to them because they see it as absolute truth, the whole book. It needs to go. Violent hate.

    This is a good question.  I suppose we must separate what we know about Muslims from what we know about Islam.  They are two different things.  Based on what I've read on the previous posts, what people know about Islam is very little.  I know that most Muslims are Sunni.  They are responsible for Wahabis and the Muslim Brotherhood.  Shi'ite Muslims make up less than 20 percent of Muslims and they believe Muhammad's son-in-law was his to be his successor.  I've experienced great kindness from Muslims when in Muslim countries.  I've also been horrified at what I've seen there.  I know that many Muslims in the United States are like many Christians.  They know the traditions of their religion and what is expected of them.  They do what is necessary to keep family and friends happy and then go about their business. People in the west who claim to understand Muslims usually do not. Western culture has no equivalent to such Muslim concepts as Taqiya or Kitman.  They would struggle to understand the concept of Hijrah.  No one has mentioned the Hadith.  Western religions have nothing like it and do not understand it.  Few comprehend the concept of Sharia law.  Westerners struggle to understand how Muslim artists are not permitted to make any type of images in their artwork.  The story behind Mohammad's wife Aisha horrifies people in the Christian religion, Muslims believe it is part of the life of their profit and is of little consequence.  I know there are Muslims who would kill anyone who does not believe in Islam.  I also know there are Muslims who would stop that person.  I've been in Muslim countries, worked for Muslims and have Muslim friends.  What I know about Muslims I learned from a Muslim in Israel.  He told me “I can look at the holy Qur’an and use its words to kill people.  I can also use its words to do good things for people.  Muslims get to choose.  It's that choice that defines the type of Muslim you are and how you serve the profit Mohammad.”  I think he's right.

    I've known some American Muslims due to the fact that I spent 8 years in federal prison and there were some Muslims there. They were mostly African Americans that converted to Islam or the Nation of Islam. I did know this one Muslim guy from the Middle East in prison which I talked to quite a bit, though. He was a really nice guy. He was older, too, like in his 50s.
    
    Being a Christian, however, I don't agree with the religion of Islam. Islam teaches that Jesus Christ didn't die on the cross for our sins and that Jesus is not the Son of God or divine.

    I know in my community which has been impacted by a bad economy, when a local christian church didn't have money to give turkeys to the poor which they have done for years in the past, the local mosque donated hundreds of frozen turkeys for the poor and put on a meal for any who wanted to come to dinner on Christmas Day.
    The local Imam  volunteers with our local police department despite threats of violence and acts of vandalism at the local Islamic center.
    Muslims that I have come to know personally are kind people who want to worship their God in peace, and serve others. When my wife was in the hospital recently, a Muslim family visited her and offered assistance if she needed help after leaving the hospital. A man from Pakistan whose wife was in the hospital at the same time as my wife dropped off a bag of groceries so we didn't have to get out of the house for a few days after she came home.
    One of her doctors was from Egypt and is one of the kindest people we have encountered in the health care system. She has seen my wife now on and off for 2-3 years, but remembers our names and the names of our children and grandchildren. She will call my wife and wish her Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, or Happy Easter and ask about our grandchildren.
    She will call me and ask how my wife is doing, and remind me that she doesn't celebrate Christian holidays, so if we need a doctor on a holiday, call her directly instead of going to the ER or paging the oncall.
    She called yesterday because my wife's Home Health Nurse noted something unusual on her chart. My wife was told by another dr 3 years ago that she was in the last 6 months of her life, and I honestly believe that her doctor is the reason she keeps living. I understand that we all have a certain number of days on this earth, but an apathetic doctor will not be the cause of my wifes death whenever it comes.
    We have had one misguided person in our community who "converted to Islam via Facebook"  and tried to offer his life to ISIS. This was despite the pleadings of his own family and the local Imam who asked him to seek counseling. That person is now in Federal prison awaiting trial.
    I would feel just as safe walking into the local Islamic Center as I would my own church.
    Just as there are bad people of any religion, naturally the news we see is usually from the bad apples whether they be christian, jewish, catholic, buddist or muslim.
    I have not been in an islamic country long enough to count. It was a case of landing dropping guys off, refueling and getting back to Germany.

    Yes, I have met Muslims in various settings over the years and all of them have been sweet, warm, kind people. There is a family who belong to our home-schooling co-op.  I believe Muslims as a group are grossly misrepresented in our media.  I suppose all groups have their share of radicals, but those people aren't mainstream.  Most people of all faiths are basically decent people.
    
    Similarly, I am sad when I hear Christians in the media saying outrageous things about other groups because they ruin things for other Christians who are more liberal in their beliefs.  We don't need to proselytize to be good Christians.  We only need to treat others respectfully.

    I don't see them as any different as all of us..they are just people with a particular religion..I live in Singapore where we have a diverse group of different races and religions..generally I believe that it is not the religion that is bad..it's the people that makes the religion bad..so Muslim or not, there will be people who are nice and people who are not..
    
    Many of my friends are Muslim and they are great people..you just need to be more sensitive to their needs at times (e.g.going to halal certified resturants) - and I don't see an issue with that..

    My personal experience; I made the mistake of helping an Islamic man once (and I now differentiate between someone who is Muslim, and a Muslim that is Islamic).  It would be impossible to go into all the details here, but to try and make it short, he ended up using our kindness to try and force us to deny our own faith and live like Muslims, threatened me and my family, called the police and social services on us, and threatened to kill his ex wife (my friend, who was the reason I agreed to help him in the first place) - and he wasn't even in the country at the time - all because we'd discovered he had abused and neglected his daughters.  On his return, he slandered and defamed me and my family, perjured himself in court, continued to psychologically abuse his children, etc.
    
    It was because of him that I finally began to research Islam.  I originally thought that this was just him being terrible, but what I discovered is that everything he did was condoned and commanded by Islam.  He was not the exception to Islam.  It was the other Muslims I knew that were the exception.  He was living according to the teachings of the koran, the haddith and the sunnah, not my friendly Muslim neighbours.
    
    But then, the koran specifically forbids "believers" from developing friendships with "unbelievers", while allowing for pretend friendship should circumstances warrant, so it means that I can never trust if a Muslim is being genuinely friendly, or if they are practicing taqiyya. 
    
    Reading the koran was an exercise in itself.  It completely overturned all my preconceived notions of Islam being another Abrahamic religion, like Christianity and Judaism, and that it was a religion of peace that was being misinterpreted by fanatics.  What I've found is that it's the "fanatics" that are being true to the koran, hadith and sunnah, not the peaceful Muslims.  I've also learned that many Muslims have no idea what the koran actually says, because they've never read it.  They pray in a language they don't know, and are taught from a book they can't read. 
    
    And don't even get me started on the "prophet"!
    
    Based on experience and research, I have come to the conclusion that Islam is not a religion at all, but a political and nation building ideology whose purpose is to subjugate the world, using religion as a way to control the masses.
    
    Muslims, I will take one person at a time.  Islam, I now recognize as a dangerous ideology that must be exposed for the evil it is.
