If you have oily skin and hair, you will smell after 3 days. You might get acne or ingrown hairs or boils. After 6 weeks, I would expect you to be itchy and smelly in places you didn't know existed....due to fungal buildup! However if you are slim and not oily or hairy, you will have much better luck avoiding bacteria.

I am a bit confused b/c the initial question says six weeks and the detail says 3 days - those are very different time periods and situations.  As others said you would likely smell and be a bit lonely if you went 6 whole weeks without a shower, though as many pointed out I doubt anything would actually physically "happen" to you.  Think of the pioneers, long distance hikers (i.e. hiking through the Appalachian trail, hiking Everest, Kilimanjaro or some other high peak), and military on assignment - I'm sure many, many people have gone 6 weeks (and even longer) without showering in those situations.  As for three days, I doubt much of anything would happen. Depending on the time of year, how much sweat you produce, and what other hygiene things you're undertaking I have a feeling many people could get away with it without anyone even noticing.  I'm sure there were times in college when I did.  The longest I ever remember going without a shower was about 6-7 days while on a service trip in rural Mexico in a town where few places had indoor plumbing and running water was limited.  We were unable to use the water in town and so we had a few 15 gallon jugs of water and some baby wipes to last us the week.  We all survived.

If so, stay away from 'him' (I assume it's him), or report to the government, and see if can make a law on this.

i have tried it for 2 days straight and couldn't stand for it on 3rd day as i am from a tropical climate and its very sweaty here. i believe it depends from person to person and also from geographical, climatic conditions which play a major role in this. so, i believe you need to be more specific on this as there might be major to minor differences

If I go out without a shower even for one day, I feel unhealthy and weak. Ours is a topical country, so here, taking bath daily is a common practice. Even when I took ill, I never stayed without shower continuously for three days. Even one day without shower causes itching in our country. More days will lead to bacterial infection on body.

The result will be horrendous. Fungal infection, scabies etc will attack the body.

    Plain and simple--they STINK!

My ex was horrible that way--you could count the number of times he showered ALL YEAR on one hand, with fingers left over!!

He also rarely changed his clothes, including underwear.  That's just one of the reasons he's my EX.

When I was little, we had no shower or tub, so I took sponge baths daily. I wonder if some outdoorsmen like mountain climbers and campers go a long time without showers. People in undeveloped countries are another group. It makes us appreciate what we have. Interesting question.

I never tried without shower for a day even, because each and every day I take my shower.
My elder son Jaspreet is in Canadian Forces and he had training twice- one time for three day, where they were not allowed to brush their teeth and no shower for three days. One time it was in the winter(Canada) and second time in Summer. He didn't complaint at all, but  what I see after one year his training he is much much stronger-physically and mentally than before.
Now I will try without soap my shower from  tomorrow for three days and may be one day without shower. Interesting I heard from my son and after that from this question. It is interesting-I will try!

    Thanks for the question.

I think we are at a time in history when we wash a lot more than ever before. I remember learning about how, in the civil war era, well-to-do women would carry an orange with them that had cloves pushed into it all around the surface. Then when she would talk to a man (men generally did not wash as often as women back then) she would hold the clove-covered orange up to her nose so that she wouldn't be offended by how badly he smelled.

6 weeks?  I would imagine you would spell pretty bad.  I also imagine you might have itchy sores or rashes.  You would probably be pretty lonely during the 6 weeks as well.

If a person does not take bath for more than a week, the physical and mental health will be affected. He would become mentally weak and lose memory power also.

Well, for one, you will smell REALLY horribly.

Then, your skin will actually begin to rot. First in the warmer, moister areas like your crotch, arm pits and er, buttcrack. Then it will spread.

Just save the trouble and take a shower.

Concerning my toothpaste comment, once you have gotten into the habit of it you will never be able to stop though, the mass build up of plaque that will result from doing so will cause them to rot out pretty quickly.

It's irreversible, my mentally ill daughter didn't bath for many weeks. I guess I shouldn't say irreversible but she had to have special whirl pool baths to do what the mental hospital called a clean up, they said this is common in the mental health hospitals.

If a person does not bathe or take a shower for six weeks, he/she will save a lot of precious water. LOL. He/she will stink like shit though, but if anybody has the guts to do it and still be able to live with that, hats off and I am not talking about people who are forced to live in such conditions but about people who choose to do so.

Nothing would happen if a person decided not to shower for six weeks. On Survivor (the TV show), they don't really shower for over a month and they are fine. I guess at worse, the person may feel uncomfortable but again, it would depend on their activities and the time of the year (i.e. was it summer and they were sweating a lot or winter and they are not really sweating at all). I guess it depends on the person.

When I was hospitalized, I did not take a bath for two days. Only wiping and sanitizing were done. But still, I couldn't live without taking a bath. Fortunately after two days, I regained strength and I took a bath. I felt so uncomfortable and untidy without having shower.

Well, if I do not shower for a day my head automatically gets really itchy.  However, if somebody showered for 6 weeks nothing much would most likely happen.  The only real downside is he or she will smell and be more susceptible to health problems.

He/she will not smell very well :v

Actual answer: depends on said person's lifestyle, current health, habits, etc. While someone who's used to living in the wild and has good health may not feel any bad things after three weeks of no showering, a person who's used to living indoors and doesn't have great health will be exposing himself/herself to a huge load of infections and associated problems.

One thing I can say for sure, though: It won't do anything good for anyone, so, when in doubt, wash yourself :v

People would make it quite clear that your personal hygiene was not as good as THEY feel it should be,and this in turn would make most of us feel sad.
I read somewhere that centuries ago people did not take regular baths, but they found ways of masking their body odours by using various natural plants and flowers etc.to mask the smells.
I think I might try not taking a bath or shower for three days but only when I know I will have three days at home with no one visiting me,I'll let you guys know how I felt when I have done the experiment.

First off let me tell you that most of you are completely wrong and here is why... I'm currently battling severe depression. First I stopped talking to friends and family, stopped going out the house. The last time I showered or bathed was almost 8 weeks ago, I mean absolutely nothing, not even brushing my teeth. And I don't Smell any worse now then at the three day mark. My roommate didn't even know till I told him. By the way I'm a 30 year old female living in the great North West. Now back to the odor thing, if I literally touch my nose to my armpit or foot that's the only way I'll get any sort of foul wiff. As for the skin I have no sores or strange stuff but places on my skin where my clothes are worn close to the skin virtually most of the time, (Ex: under my bra, socks and pants) I started to notice a little flakey skin that just basically brushes off if I rub it. The only part of my body that is oily is my hair but I keep a beanie on 24/7. Surprisingly one thing I forgot to mention is I have chronic Psorisis and actually not bathing has basically cleared it all up except for the Psorisis that's on my scalp that's still there but is still better that it ever has been and it's usually thick patches that would bleed if I itched them now it's just like heavy dandruff and comes off easily. I haven't gotten sick or had any infections or rashes. During this period I have not bathed or showered, brushed teeth, used any hygiene or cosmetic products. I haven't even brushed my hair it's been in the same two braids the whole time. I'm not proud of my current state and plan to bath pretty soon. I recently have had the most heartbreaking of tragedies happen one after another and am just starting to consider trying to dig myself out of this dark hole I'm in. But I did want to give am honest answer to anyone wondering about the symptoms of not bathing for a few months and it's not really much.. There's so many ignorant answers from people who have no actual first hand or professional knowledge of this sort of subject that are just being rude and ignorant. Anyone who goes more than a week without bathing usually is either depressed or doesn't have that luxury (like the homeless or people from places of extreme poverity). So many of us take for granted the little things. Please be mindful of your posts you could be scaring the crap out of someone who doesn't have a choice that's hoping for honest answers to ease their fear of the unknown.

You are clearly stating that your depression is preventing you from showering/bathing/changing clothes..I'm trying to understand why the person I'm renting a room from has not changed his clothes bathed or showered in over 2 months..since I moved in.

They would just get smellier by the day and the degree of smelliness  would depend on where they live in the world and the job the person does. For instance a coal miner is obviously going to get a lot grubbier than a bank manager.  In cooler climates it is quite possible to refrain from showering or bathing all winter and still remain clean. Wet wipes or wash cloths can be used to clean faces, necks, armpits, feet and intimate areas but the remaining skin has few sweat glands and remains relatively odour free. People who are bed bound manage quite well with a regular all over wash.

I didn't take a shower for 5 days. It was not an experiment but an error on my part in reading the map. We were driving from U.S. to Alaska. The scale was 50 miles on U.S. side by 300 miles on Canada side. I wondered why the customs laughed when he asked us how long we would be in Canada and my husband answered 5-6 hours. He actually brought another guy over to ask the same question and he laughed. We did not laugh when we figured out that we were not making Alaska for over 5 days. Ooopsies. I am no longer allowed to make the itinerary. lol
