I called that one when she was running for VP. I said, Todd better watch his back--there's like, a gazillion rich right wing geezers in DC who want her. Watch Bill Kristol or Pat Buchanan talk about her--it's embarrassing.

She's after power, and Todd isn't the ticket to that. Color me totally unsurprised.

You know, I didn't like Sarah Palin.  But I hate to see that her and her families lives have become a reality show and appears to be turning into Springer.

Some say she brought it on herself, which she deserves some blame.  But the media deserves some too.

As a liberal, I feel sick writing this.  I must have a fever of some sort but I will say it anyway. . . .

I hope their family gets through this how they see fit and I actually wish them the best.

If she runs for President I will do everything in my little to none power to see her lose.

Very statesman-like and well stated, pgpappa.  Agreed.  My fascination with the entire story is that many of us knew long ago that we were being sold a 'bad' bunch of goods.  Meaning, she isn't anywhere near presidential material.

I have nothing against the woman personally, except that out-sized will to power and lack of necessary self-analysis.

    1. tksensei profile image60

Interesting how certain types react to rumors like this by gleefully licking their chops at the prospect of reveling in the personal misfortune of someone they disagree with politically. Doesn't matter if it has been confirmed or discredited yet, just the potential is enough to stimulate the basest of instincts.

Just look at the number of Obama post and you get your sense of that.

But with Palin, it is personable.  I personally would hate to see her as a national political figures idealogically.  But just because I do not like her brand of politics means I wish ill things happen to her.  I want her to lose, not suffer pain.

That is the problem with politics today.  People who want Obama to fail only do so because they want Obama to fail.  Regardless of the fact some of his ideas have been introduced by conservatives before, they want the man to fail.

I think for many women, it is a personal/political thing.  Many feel that, number one, she has set back women's interests in politics by 25 years or more, by the nature of the reasons she was propelled to the national stage.  Number two, I think many women feel she truly is incompetent and a bad representation of our gender (I do).  It's not about her being a pretty doll, so much as it is her being a pretty doll with the lack of necessary skills, and to go further to say she is a pretty doll with the lack of necessary skills that was propped up by what many see as a good-old-boy political establishment.

That she had a definite lack of self-analysis and out-sized will to power in accepting the VP nomination is her woe, therefore, in the creation of personal problems.  Same as Sandford, ie.  It's not that most, I think, wish bad things upon her...it's that we see she did not play by the rules or ethical standards some hold, and I think there is some anger amongst women for the charade that has been taken to a national level.  Many want to disassociate from that.  We do not see her as a real politician and in no way want her representing us....BESIDES the usual bipartisan concerns.

A woman reaching the highest office of her state and being nominated for Vice President of the United States by her party nationally, gaining millions of supporters across the country, and demonstrating independence and personal resolve in the face of viscious personal and professional attacks certainly must have set back women's interests at least 25 years.

It seems the sites claiming the rumor is "False" outnumber the sites claiming it is true. Even snopes.com, which actually has a "Sarah Palin" button under "Politics" does not have info.

    Time will tell.
If it is false, then shame on the National Enquirer or whoever planted the story. *Slaps wrist of NE publisher.*

If it is true, it makes me sad that those poor Palin kids, who have already been dragged through the media attention of a presidential campaign, will suffer even more. Most especially the baby!

If it is true, it does not show Mrs. Palin in a very favorable light. She will have to come up with some other platform besides "family values" for any future runs.

BTW, Moving to Montana soon, eh? Isn't Montana close to Wyoming, home of that dreamboat ex-VP, Dick Cheney? Maybe she'll be giving old Dick some hunting lessons!

'Rumors' from insider citizen journalist on the blogosphere:

"Todd has been sleeping on the couch for a while. Right now, Sarah is away camping with the children and Todd wants to return to the North Slope (if he can get his old job back). They are not 'together' but there is so much potential money at stake that they will continue to live a charade until it's locked in. Sooner or later Todd will return to the North Slope and they will continue to deny any separation - while living apart."

*edit:  In the journalistic field, sources are just that...  They are people often close to the source that a journalist gets a tip from.  In political journalism, Deep Throat of course, was a famous anonymous source.  A journalist needs to be careful that libel does not occur...this is done by attributing sources, and labeling rumors as rumors.  Of course, many who have never worked as a journalist (although one would hope education can help them) may not know that.

Citizen journalism and online reporting, including the use of 'tweets' in Iran during the political and civic demonstrations has gained mainstream credibility.  FYI, the Whitehouse recently publically acknowledged the political blogger from Huffington Post who broke stories concerning the bloody demonstrations in Iran by the use of these online alternative sources.

Some here clearly are not up to speed on the current state of the information industry.

It is interesting to see people who think so highly of themselves, take such joy in the possibility of someone elses pain.
Without regard to her politics, is she still not a human being, just as most of us are?
Then to take a rumor and try to propagate and enhance it is just plain meaness.

In is also interesting to see those that supported the winner still try to villify the losers instead of pointing out the positive of what they supported.
Of course if there is no positives to point out, I guess there is little else to do but kick others when they are down.

I think she appeals to the worst in everyone, her fans AND her enemies. Every time I see her I think of Fay Dunaway in "A Handmaid's Tale" I don't doubt that her own publicity team put this out, and in a day or two she'll be all over the news spewing acid 'moral outrage'.

I also think it could still be true AND they leaked it themselves so she could do the moral outrage thing.

I find her to be vile both on a political and a personal level, and the fact that she has ANY fans is a very bad sign for America.

It says a sad thing when such a lie can be picked up by journalists all over the country and treated as truth.  What does this say about the integrity of our journalists and of the field as a whole?  Journalists claim to be politically neutral, but can be when they take obvious pot shots at people who disagree with them?  Journalists are supposed to check and cross-check their facts, but as this and the Brokaw fiasco show, many times it's more important to get a good sounding story than it is the truth.  If the so-called Fourth Estate cannot be counted upon, who can be count upon?

Bibowen, I'm sure you are perhaps familiar with political satire (?)  Saturday Night Live sure is, as are a number of publications, including The New York Times, as well as The National Review.

And who are you specifically speaking to?  Everyone who posted here whose views are opposed to yours?  BTW, many of them are among our very best writers on hubpages.

      1. Bibowen profile image89
Bibowenposted 13 years agoin reply to this

If you understand the concept of satire, then you would know that there is nothing satirical about the divorce rumor. Tina Fey and SNL poke fun of Palin, make fun of her mannerisms, exaggerate them. They take something that is true and blow it out of proportion. This is humor based in something that we know to be true.

But the comment about her getting a divorce isn't based in truth. It was a rumor; worse, it's a rumor that's not true (as far as the public record shows). If this is humor it is humor for the ignorant, not the knowledgable; for those that don't know, not those that do know.

And what of "our very best writers" agreeing with you? Rumormongering is no respector of persons.

I respectfully disagree, sir.  And as far as our 'very best writers,' we have in our company Maureen Dowd, among other very substantial op ed writers and bloggers.

I believe this will bother you in the extreme, however, it is clearly labeled satire:

          http://www.thespoof.com/news/spoof.cfm? … e=s2i57543

And Salon is quite reputable, comparing her to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a serious piece.  Oh. My.

          http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/20 … index.html

What gets me, truly gets me, is that the right truly, truly doesn't understand the concept of satire in regard to the Obama/birth certificate flap.  Which I find laughable, wink.  And that I don't think a few Hubpage readers understand the concept of public figures vs. private figures and what goes as far as that concept.

And as far as equal opportunity, how about that Jon Edwards, Breck Boy, and those 'rumors' somebody broke before the actual story came down?
