If people stopped having sex than humans would become extinct.

What kind of question is this? Humans have been having sex since the beginning of time, why would they ever want to stop now? I certainly won't be stopping any time soon:0)

Forever, in all instances?  Certainly if that was the case all STD's would end and the population would drop--but we would have some unhappy human beings!

Having given this a lot of thought and considered all of the data on the subject, I'd have to say the benefits of sex far outweigh the drawbacks.

    Only if you want to.
Having sex is like most activities in life, they are choices.
It's not so much a matter of "should" as much as it is a matter of "wanting or not wanting" to have sex.

As for population control I read somewhere if you had everyone in the world standing side by side you wouldn't fill up the state of Texas! Earth is far from being over crowded. In the U.S. alone there are people that own thousands of acres of land with no inhabitants! In addition to world disasters, plane crashes, car accidents, wars, better birth control methods, and the constant techology improvements that roll by each year it is very difficult to imagine man not being able to make adjustments. If everyone stopped having sex it would be equvialent to having a slow massive suicide of mankind.

Really are you serious? Why would anyone stop having sex? Its one of the best things in life. I wouldn't stop but I don't know about you.

No. First reason: the human species would die out. Second reason (equally important to first reason) sex is a human need.

Yes, they should not have sex if they are not married. But if they are happy and married they should have a lot of sex.

I can't see any reason for people to stop having sex. First of all it's a biological necessity to insure the continuation of our species. It's very pleasurable and enjoyable. For some it's a way to express their "love" for one another. Despite the possibility of a venereal disease, and our lust for more, I can't see any necessity to stop having sex.

I don't think stopping sex is the answer. If that were to happen, more problems would be created. I can't visualize that outcome to be a positive one.  Sex is very important to everyone. Whether your in a relationship or not. It maintains that bond two people share. It provides an individual a full filled fantasy. It's an escape for some people. Sex is used for so many different things, positive and negative. If my man and I were no longer allowed to make love, then, well.... we'd find a way. If we had to dig hole 1000 feet deep just so we could sneak away and show our love, we'd do it. I will say, teenagers and young children need to stop having sex. They are too young to understand and know what sex is really about. All the pregnant teens out there today. It's really sad. The babies they are bringing into the world are going to grow up and be the next generation. The next generation will be deciding our future. Thats a scary thought to me. How can a 13 year old raise a child? How can that 13 year old's mother raise a child? People don't need to stop having sex, but we should educate the kids about it. We should put out more effort to raise the awareness and find a way to stop this epidemic or at least somewhat be able to start controlling it.

No. We were created as sexual beings for several reasons- procreation, to share intimacy with another, and for some a means to spiritual enlightenment. Of course there are people who abstain (i.e. unmarried people, priests and other religious leaders, people with medical issues, etc.) and people who identify as asexual- they have a different path. For the rest of us, it is good to develop a healthy sexuality, attitude, and appetite. If we weren't supposed to do that, we would not be arrive in this world as sexual beings.

I'm not taking this question very seriously, but...

It's odd to me how many people are concerned with how human beings would die out if we stopped having sex. I have to say, that'd probably be the best thing that ever happened to this planet, lol.

Can't say people should stop having sex all together. But we do have a very bad problem with population growth, depleted resources sprawl and many other issues that arise from having a global population that will be hitting 7 billion real soon. I know in college we often talked about the dangers of overpopulation in wildlife starvation and diseases grow in number and spread. With humans we create medications that fight off diseases, but pathogens are always changing and adapting. Our current lifestyle is unsustainable and will eventually result in a dangerous shortage in food and especially fresh water. We do have to control reproduction rate, otherwise the disaster that will result from it will be far worst than any of us could imagine.

strange question. people should and would not stop having sex.  only some of us should be more careful.

  33. Cheeky Girl profile image67
    Cheeky Girlposted 12 years ago

    Short answer - er, no!

It drives us and is part of us and part of who we are. However some couples do engage in family planning and try to control the amount of kids they want.

Then I remember the "Friends" actress Courtney Cox who tried for so long to have kids, and who kept losing the babies...she didn't stop  until she was successful, as far as I know. The desire to be a Mother or Parent can be so strong in a person...

It all depends on their emotions. People shouldn't just do it for a quick fix.

  35. Lisa HW profile image62
    Lisa HWposted 12 years ago

Why - yes, they should.  Recreational sex should be replaced with playing tennis and knitting;  all babies should get their starts in test tubes; and  any "love-associated" sex should be replaced with the perfectly convenient practice of giving one's partner some supermarket flowers.  Now that would just make the world one, big, jim-dandy, world, wouldn't it....

WOW....REALLY ? I mean seriously....what kind of question is this. Yes we should stop having sex because we are a cancer destroying this planet, but it aint gonna happen. We will continue to breed rampantly, then we will colonize and destroy another poor planet.....thats what we do.

    I really like this question!

I'm not sure how you meant it, but it's interesting to think about. We really are over populating our world. And sex is how we're doing it. Sex doesn't always lead to pregnancy and birth, but our population isn't growing because we AREN'T having sex.

Then there is the psychological component. The desire for sex is ingrained in all of us. In religions, communities, or cultures where sex is prohibited, there are often issues of sexuality that manifest themselves in unhealthy ways. When human beings are forced to abstain from sex, the need and desire for it doesn't just disappear. Pedophilia, rape, and molestation can infect a population.

Interesting question. I saw a few people responded that not having sex wasn't "the answer", but you never said what answer you were looking for, or really what the context of your question was.

If the issue is overpopulation of the world...we could always take the route of futuristic novels depicting societies with strict rules and dangerous control over the population. You know, make people infertile. Then there could be a revolution   and millions of people would die. Then we would have to re-fertilize ourselves and repopulate the world and eventually find ourselves in the exact same situation. So not a great solution.

The point is, you're dealing with the human race. No matter what we try to do to fix things, we tend to only find more creative and abstract ways to just mess everything up.
