i'd personally feel very uncomfortable having sex in front of my kid (if i had any) or any kid for that matter, as it would be way too embarassing for me.  plus, i'd be too scared it might also affect the child in one or two ways.  one it might scar them or they might develop being into incest and being attracted to their mom or me.  that would be something i would not want to deal with.  lol. sorry.  that's just me.

eta:  not that im saying there's anything wrong with incest, nor am i supporting it.  i just wouldn't want to deal with it myself.

Yeah, but why basically sit on the fence and not just outright condemn it?  It's not like it's a matter of personal taste... like your picking the color of bathroom tile lol

let me ask you, do you like or dislike cannibalism?   Most people wouldn't take a neutral stance on that issue.  If i was to say "Hey Fred, what say we get together on the weekend and BBQ us up some neighbors?" I would assume Fred would decline.

Similarly, if I was to say 'Hey Fred, got a hot date with a family member tonight?".. Fred would most likely take offense at the mere suggestion

that's true.  i guess you got a point there.  lollol  i can honestly say that i don't condone cannibalism in any form.  lol.  there, i took a stance on something!  as far as the incest crap goes, im completely against it to be honest with you, as it's not my forte.  however, i did read a forum here once about incest, and was very surprised to see how many hubbers supporting it.  therefore, i wanted to be neutral, as i so don't feel like debating with any moron over it that condones it.  i really don't.  it'll be the damn matrix trilogy debate all over again.  where some whiny little hubber b***ed about how i didn't like their movie, so they started to make fun of me for it.  that's why i wanted to take a neutral stance on incest, as i know on hubpages certain topics can get you in trouble with certain hubbers.  lol.  sorry, im just speaking from experience here.

so, let me get this straight... you said "not that there's anything WRONG with incest" to please the mob?

              ugh

why do you care what someone who condones incest thinks?!!!

and to the OP, you know it is wrong. that is why pornography is for HELLO adults ONLY. roll

this isn't about adults' sensibilities...it is about protecting children and theirs. it's about respecting their boundaries. if sex in front of children was ok, then it would also be ok for people to just strip and start having sex in public, wouldn't you think?

restricting sex to private bedrooms away from prying eyes, especially little ones, isn't about being puritainical or uptight. it's about respect, period. no one wants to see that.

OP, if you have seen this occuring, you need to tell someone with authority that adults are having sex in front of little kids. that's wrong and immoral besides.

yeah, your right.  i completely agree with your statement, as i don't think anyone here could have said it better cossette.

as far as me trying to be neutral goes, i usually try to be as unbiased as possible when it comes to controversial subject matters.  simply, because i really don't like confrontations of any kind.  don't get me wrong, im not a coward or anything like that, as i will stand up for myself if i have to.  and i've been known to be vengeful to those that cross me, but i try to avoid it whenever possible.  hence, why i normally avoid talking about politics, religion and race a lot.  simply because i don't like to offend people.  sure, i don't mind throwing directors and actors under the bus if i feel their movies stink, but it's a lot more harder to judge an average person.  anyways, i hope that explains it, and i apologize if anything i said came off as offensive.

cosetteposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Steven no need to apologize to me. if that's what you were doing, i mean. i hate confrontation too but i always speak out for children, it is just the way i am. children are one of the few creatures along with animals that people think it's ok to disrespect or hurt, even, just because they are small or can't defend themselves. i sometimes think people think small person=small feelings, which is horribly innacurate. sorry for making you feel bad, if i did.

and anyone who condones incest regardless of the age of the particpant or the so-called consent can go to aych eee double ell.

                  thank you.

As you say that you have seen a lot of people having sex in front of their child, I'm actually more suprised that you know a lot of people who have sex in front of you.

I think it depends on the age of the child, and also whether 'in the presence of' means that they are on the sofa next to you trying to watch TV, or if they are in the next room or something.

this reminds me of a joke i heard years ago,
a boy asks his mom if he can take a shower with her, she says, i think you're getting a little old but ok this is the last time. in the shower he points to her chest and says what are those. she says they're my head lights. he points between her legs and says what's that. she says it's my bush.

the next day the boy asks to take a shower with his dad. the dad says it's the last time. so in the shower he points down at his dad and says what's that. the dad says it's my snake.

that night the boy hears noises coming from his parents room. he goes and and yells mommy turn your head lights on quick, daddy's snake is in your grass.

hope this goes well on this topic, big_smile

I am also curious as why you watching other couples have sex in front of their children, thats an episode of Jerry Springer, I must have missed.

Im guessing you have good binoculars?

As for the theory of "Is it ok for children to see their parents have sex"

I wouldnt be comfortable personally as I was raised in an oppressive, anti-sex American regime that only allows sex education to come from HBO, cologne advertisements and uncomfortable videos in Middle school.

The early statement about such a  thing being abuse points to the personal shame and hang ups of the commenter.

Historically, sex wasnt a hidden or shameful act, many indigenous cultures  have a much different view of this question and most likely also have a healthier conversation with their children about the nature of sex and its repercussions.

its silly to be so influenced by idiot puritans..

You know we as humans havent always had seperate rooms and heat that reaches our entire dwellings. It used to be common for entire families to share one room ... yet somehow children were conceived? Centuries of abuse and improper behavior?..I cant agree.

I wouldn't do this purposely but it might be okay if the child is two or younger. Once I was making love to my girlfriend and her son who was two at the time walked in on us. I panicked but she held me tight against her and kept me calm. She talked calmly to her son like nothing unusual was happening. He turned and left the room and we got changed.
