Yesterday I wrote my last hub for the HP apprenticeship program on the last day it was due and now I'm done. Six months of focus. Time to take a break. Today I'm cleaning house.

Finally got around to writing another Hub.
Working on painting a custom ceramic order--personalized Halloween jack-o-lanterns, of all things...  well, the order didn't arrive until the week before Halloween, and they take a week to dry after being poured..and the order was for 6, and we have only 2 molds.
Luckily, the person ordering is my daughter, and she knew very well it was too short for this year, and I have until next Halloween to finish.  However, I want them done and fired, as they are far to fragile as green ware, to be sitting around that long!

Congrats on the hub. Google was extremely unimpressed with my last 2 recipe hubs, so I've cancelled doing the 3rd one. I'll have to think of something else brilliant instead. WTG with the 100 author score, btw. Enjoy it while it lasts... big_smile

You should compile your Astronomy hubs into an ebook.

Now that is a thought... Know any good ebooks-for-dummies resources out there I could visit? What would I charge? How do I market the thing? Total newbie.

Hollie Thomasposted 12 years agoin reply to this

I believe the formatting can be a bit of a pain, although I suspect for you it will be straight forward. If you visit smashwords there's a free download "formatting your book" also free download "marketing your book"  I have read, and for the life of me I can't remember where, that something between 4 and 10 dollars is the optimum. Below that you're not earning much commission and beyond that the price repels people (like an effective insect repellent)

Also, the formatting, I believe although I do not speak from experience, is more work when it comes to smashwords than it is for Amazon. However,  you should upload your book to both. And, I believe there's a few other free downloads re: ebooks and advice, available from smashwords. You don't need a kindle etc- PDF and what have you available.

And, you don't have to worry about images- IMHO, for the quality of the image, is pointless. Somewhere I also have stored a place where you can download and design your own free ebook cover.

        Thanks, paradigm--
I don't pay much attention to hubber scores anymore, though--they do fluctuate rather wildly, and it is so easy to "fall from grace" as it were, on any level here.  I reached a "level 8 commenter" status a couple of weeks ago.  How long did that last?  A single day, and I have no clue what I did to achieve that, or what I did or failed to do to lose it.  So I'm not too impressed by these numbers...  wink

Just wrote an article, submitted a pitch to a website, boiled water for coffee, and commented on a thread here.  Now, I'm going to assist my teen son with an online math assignment (algebra - hooray... okay, not really hooray at 8am on a Sunday), pop into church, bribe the kids to rake all the leaves while I stay inside and write 2 articles, and work on a new website I'm developing.  Then, I'll eat lunch, return email/calls, and go to Starbucks with my son to do... more algebra!  After four hours of algebra Hades, I will go home, make dinner, feed said children, and go back to work writing articles until the kids go to bed.  Then I'll finally take a break and watch a movie - in the beautiful quiet hours of my home with a good cup of coffee... just a small slice of the day to my own thing!

Scared myself today. Attended a high level council meeting for California water conservation officials. Kept low, cause I know people, but not well and I'm "just" a writer. Turns out CUWCC was giving an award to a school irrigation training program I wrote a hub on a few months ago, which I had sent to one of CUWCC's committees.

I had no idea, so it was exciting to see the program leaders and high school students I knew. Quick hugs and greetings, then I went back to the meeting while they waited for their turn. When they came in for their presentation, the sound didn't work for the videos and one of them was mine. They called me up to do a spontaneous voice over. I brazened my way through as I strode to the mike in front, talking the whole way. Then I went back to my corner and tried not to shake. Did a good job, but I'm glad to be home now where it's safe.
