Is it disconcerting to you when hubbers change their profile pics?

I have changed mine a couple of times lately...but then I got to thinking that I have definitely somehow attached identities to Hubbers and their profile pics...know what I mean?

So...is it weird when someone "you think you know" changes up the profile pic on you?

That is so funny, I've had the same experience.  I have a picture of the person in my mind and suddenly they morphed into an animal or a sunset.  Or, their new picture looks nothing like the one before.

I haven't been here long but changing a profile pic isn't that big of a deal for me. Some people have different moods or their feelings change about the original picture. Sometimes I actually like seeing different pictures

    Yes.

Uninvited Writer's recent change didn't bother me since I follow her on twitter and she shares pictures of Boo, but the changes are rather odd. Some people I flat out down recognize in spite of the fact that their writing style doesn't change! Dumb me! sad

It is a little for me at least. I have changed mine a couple of times too but I think I look for familiar pictures, so maybe in time it will not matter.

It bothers me greatly. I can never keep up. A person's avatar is like a brand, a symbol, it should have great value and shouldn't be flipped every ten seconds.

Hahahahahaha!  goldentoad, I love your sarcasm.  big_smile

A changing profile picture doesn't bother me, because it usually shows another side to the person's personality.

Yeah, I get attached to pictures. Although, changes to peoples which keep the same thing don't seem to have that effect. Kinda like ProCW he used to have the Happy Sad mask icon, then he turned it into 4 of them different colors, that was ok. But changing completely just seems...idk taboo maybe.

Ohh! Yikes! Okay, I am guilty then...sorry! I guess since I can't post my real picture (see hub regarding my GF who is in the military with a high security clearance, etc.) I try to come up with creative and interesting avatars.

I would really LOVE to post our pic, believe me...my GF looks like Angelina Jolie with short hair only way more gorgeous... and I'm told I'm pretty okay too.

You guys have no reason to buy this as truth, I guess... lol !

KB Lover.  While we're on the subjuect, what on earth is in your avatar?  Here are my theories:  a poodle, white mittens, cotton swabs gone wild, or clouds that are very low-lying and enjoy being inside.

      1. kblover profile image76
kbloverposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Hehehe, nice theories smile I wouldn't mind have a pet cloud. Talk about housebreaking, though - wouldn't want it to make a little storm on the carpet! big_smile

You're close with the poodle (or even the cotton swabs in a roundabout way).

It's Wally. I was trying to take a picture of him jumping up for his bone, but instead of being interested in the bone, he got curious about the camera. The camera flash timer went off and caught his head in the corner of the lens. (the hubscore box makes it hard to see his face)

With the way the picture looks, it's like he's peeking over the "frame" to see what's going on. I liked the effect and ended up keeping the image even though it was a "mistake". smile

So why the cotton swabs? Well, he's a Coton de Tulear - "The Cotton dog of Tulear". The French basically thought of these dogs as cotton balls with legs (due to their fur) so that's why your cotton swab theory is close in a roundabout way. smile

I must admit to cruising new hubs for familiar avatars, they just jump out at you, so it seems like a good idea to keep the same one. Funny, I just scanned in a photo to use as a new avatar. I'm thinking of a seasonal change. I was wearing a jacket and it was obviously winter. So there.

  15. Frieda Babbley profile image80

I for one LOVE the new avatar, Dolores.  Very appropriate and fun to boot.  HP is one of the few places I actually remember names as opposed to faces, so I'm okay with it.  I do it myself for the change.

I don't change mine but the changing atavars can be fun. If you actually read the hubs , comments or forum posts, then the atavar is not relevant really

I don't change mine, you are just who you are!  I do find it confusing when some change so many times it seems to take longer for me to find that ole familiar face that I always enjoy.

To tell you the truth, and I lot of people won't believe this, but I rarely look at the pictures.  I couldn't tell you which hubber has an avatar and which has what looks like a real picture.  My wife likes to change things around in the house so if changing a picture makes someone feel good; have at it.

I think it's fine to change your profile picture regularly on sites like MySpace and Facebook with your changing moods, but I see some value in leaving the same profile picture on HubPages for long stretches, for recognition purposes.

I also believe it's best to have a photo of your real self, because people feel more comfortable with content that comes from someone they can see is a real person.

So, my preference is to change profile pictures only to keep up with my own aging.

I agree with you.Sharing your real picture means your frankness of mind- means you love to share your true feelings with others and quite straightforward.Thank you Maddie.

I wish Wally could write my hubs for me smile

Would save me lots of time, and he can tell what happens during his training and such much easier!

But, alas, I am not a master trainer and haven't been able to teach him to even like a keyboard (much less type on it).

I think the keys would be too small for his paws anyway big_smile

I'm not thrown when a "well established picture-flipper" changes the image "yet again".  It's when the "seemingly unchanging" images change that I get thrown for a brief moment.

I also agree that's annoying... but hey, there's nothing we can do about that. The ideal would be something like IM programs, where we can associate a nick to a person, disregarding the person's nick. This could be used on avatars.

hmmm.. well, I think I'd have to agree with the toad smile avatar do seem sort of like a brand...you identify the name with the avatar. Even though you know frogdropping doesn't actually look like an over excited frog and BadCo might not really be Johnny Depp-- you associate their name with that. And GT changes his a lot but it is almost always a shaggy haired bum these days smile  so staying within a theme lol
