Hello everyone,
Sorry I'm a bit late today - just enjoyed a large, tasty lunch.
Paul took a look, and had to make a difficult choice, like all of the judges. His choices:
Winner: Alton Brown - The MacGyver of Food by Patty Inglish, MS
Runner-up: A Chile-Head's Pepper Guide by amy jane
Congratulations to Patty, who wins 5 pts for the day! helenathegreat wins 2 points for being the first to guess "food" correctly yesterday.
Great job, everyone! Stacie Naczelnik still holds the lead, with 121 points!
Congrats!! I think it was really tough competition! Both of those hubs are terrific!
Congratulations Patty, it was a great HUB. I enjoyed reading it!
Oh Wow! Our power went out in this sector of the city for several hours - I had no idea. THANKS!
Thanks for the kind comments, Everybody!
Patty
Hi all,
A bit quicker than usual, I've waded through the entries for the day on "computers" and have these 5 finalists:
1. Computers for Diabetics by stephhicks68
2. How to Choose a Laptop Case by Whitney05
3. VisiCalc – the First Killer App of the Computer Era by Chuck
4. When Internet Pranks Go Bad: Computers as Weapons by helenathegreat
5. Computer Speakers by Horse Tack
I've sent them to Adam at Hobotopia for judging. Should be back soon with his verdict!
Hmm, I don't think I got to see any of those except mine. Looks like I've got some reading to do! Good luck everyone.
Hi everyone,
Adam @ Hobotopia chose:
Winner: #2. "Very useful and I hadn't seen anything like it before."
Runner up: #4
So congratulations to Whitney05, winner of 5 pts for the day, and helenathegreat for being the runner-up! Maddie Ruud wins 2 pts for being the first to guess "computers" yesterday.
The leaderboard & scoreboard have been updated.
Stacie Naczelnik is still in the lead, with 124 pts, but Whitney05 is a close 2nd with 120 pts.
There will be a special announcement tomorrow with the 21st day clue--stay tuned!
Congrats Whitney and Helena!
Stacie, uh oh, looks like somone needs to keep a move on.
Congrats Whitney!
The pressure is building. Gene Wilder would die from the suspense.
This is not an objective contest! It's Affective Prejudice!
WHY, when this is the WORLD wide web, does one have to be a USA resident???
I Object!
You don't have to be a U.S. resident to participate. However, for legal reasons you must be one to be eligible for the prize.
BONUS!
Starting today and through the end of the contest (i.e. the 10 final days), there will be an additional bonus every day.
First, there are some point changes:
* 3 points for being the first person to guess the clue correctly
* 3 points per eligible Hub entry (up to 10 maximum per day)
* 15 points for the best Hub
In addition, each point gives you 1 entry into the daily drawing...for $100!
We will announce the winner when we announce the best Hub winner, and we will pay the lucky winner by PayPal at the conclusion of the contest. He/she must be eligible to enter the contest (check the rules), and will have to verify this through an affidavit that we will mail to you at the end of the contest.
Another incentive to keep those Hubs coming in! You can enjoy a vacation on March 16th
Hi Hubpages,
Thank you for adding this incentive, and helping out those who are low on the totem pole
I have a question about the contest rules "Final Stretch Bonus Prizes: During the final 10 days of the contest (March 5-March 14), every point will count as an entry into a random drawing for $100!
Additionally, a winner of a $100 cash-equivalent prize will be given for the winner of a random drawing held during the final 10 days of the contest (March 6 through March 15). Each eligible point counts as an eligible entry into the drawing."
Does this mean that there is one drawing at the end for 10 days/winners ($1,000), or one drawing for $100.
Thank you.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW, that is super neat! All hubbers say, "THANK YOU"!!!!!!!!
(things are look'n good)
Hey all,
The last of the 1-pt entries, and the last finalists for a 5-pt winner:
1. Best Camp Movies by Stacie Naczelnik
2. Movie Etiquette: Fifteen Tips for a Mannered Movie by gamergirl
3. Create a Low Budget Film - Post-production by Horse Tack
4. Are Film Cameras Obsolete? by stephhicks68
5. Decorative Window Film by Whitney05
Andy Beard, SEO guru, will judge them, in addition to quality, originality and informational value, but also "effective use of on page SEO and monetization". The advice he will offer will be extremely valuable to everyone, so please stay tuned to his verdict and review of the finalists.
Goodluck!!!! Alll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope the best women *clears throat* hubber wins!
Ohhhh that is exciting! SEO tips AND points.. I'm so glad I made it up there!
Hi all,
Andy has responded, and has this to say:
Excellent feedback on the sorts of content that will grab ongoing search engine traffic ("evergreen" content), as well as how to tweak titles (favoring simple, straight-forward ones to clever "magazine" ones), will appear on Andy's blog, so I suggest adding it to your newsreader or start page.
With Whitney05's win today, both she and Stacie Naczelnik are tied at the lead with 130 points (NAILBITER)! MC7 wins 2 points for guessing "film" correctly first yesterday.
The leaderboard & scoreboard have been updated.
Congrats Whitney! And Thanks Andy for the very helpful analysis on SEO and marketing! I'll visit your blog to read more.
Congratulations Whitney!
It is so cool to get feedback.
Here is a writeup from Andy - he knows his stuff. Excellent reading for all of us:
HubLove Topic Film - Simple Keyword Research
Very cool!
I used the SEO topic tool that Andy had on his blog to get the idea and ran with it. I hope people find it useful.
Congrats Stacie. It's going to be a round last 10 days.
Congrats Whitney! It must be a little tense up there at the top
Love the new bonus. Congratulations, Whitney!
I can't get the SEO link to work, by the way.
The link worked earlier today, but not at all tonight.
What's going on with todays clue? I still show that yesterday is open.
Sorry - still waiting for the clue host to post the clue...
Tough clue today, huh? Yes, it's supposed to be very hard. I'll keep monitoring that Hub to see if someone got it right. Keep in mind that I will be ignoring any guesses past the 3 allocated to each user, so keep 'em coming until I update the Hub with the winner. (And feel free to ask friends for help - we don't care how you come up with the answer, as long as it doesn't involve hacking into my computer!)
Moving on... here are today's finalists for the 15-point bonus:
1. The Evolution of Music in Movies by helenathegreat
2. Listen to Music - It Can Save the Brain by Patty Inglish, MS
3. POLL: Debbie Gibson or Tiffany? by DJ Funktual
4. Grammy Moments by Angela Harris
5. Music Appreciation for the Deaf by Marye Audet
All very different from each other, and informative and vividly interesting to read. Great stuff!
I've email Miss Cellania, who has warned that she might be a little late with the judging since she's juggling family duties at the same time.
Aww shucks.
I thought for sure I'd done well today.
Good luck you guys, it's totally crunch time now!
You DID do well, Gamergirl! I didn't make the top 5 either (I had a good streak going). Lots of tough competition! Good luck everyone!
That is some tough competition, indeed.
I know I've learned a lot. -A lot.- This contest also tripled my hub count. LOL
You shouldn't feel bad about not making the top 5. Many, many of the entries are top-notch in quality. But I can only select 5.
Seriously! Read the ones selected today! They are incredible!
Maybe, at the end, you guys could post a Hub about the top 100 hubs of Hublove or something (before rockinjoe or DJ Funktual do it and make it a commentfest.. LOL
Good suggestion, gamergirl. We want to make the most out of this contest.
Hey, it'd be a top 100 list I'd love to see, maybe I'll get lucky and be on it somewhere.
I do think this contest was a good idea. So many of us are challenged daily.. the hubbers are challenged to Hub more (and better) and you poor guys in the office are challenged to deal with all of us! hehe
gamergirl - Well, as a day's winner, you'd appear on the top 100 list, right? And yes, it is exhausting for me (Jason) but I'm enjoying it a lot too. Coming up with the clues and arranging for clue hosting is not as hard as solving the clues and writing great Hubs, but it is tough.
OK! For the judging and first $100 winner...
Here's what Miss Cellania had to say:
So 15 points go to Marye Audet! Congratulations to her, and to helenathegreat for being the runner up. And 3 pts go to stephhicks68 for guessing "music" first yesterday.
The leaderboard and scoreboard have been updated. As you can, there has been a lot of shakeup in the top 10, because the point values in the final 10 days are so much higher. But Stacie Naczelnik still leads with 160 pts, followed closely by Whitney05 with 157.
NOW...for the $100 winner.
Just a reminder: Every point you got today was worth exactly 1 entry into the random drawing. I used Random.org to pull a list of random numbers, from a sequence equal to the number of total points. (So I have a runner-up, 2nd runner-up, etc. in case the winner proves to be ineligible). The winner for today?
Stacie Naczelnik!
Might seem unfair because Stacie's already in the lead, but this drawing is utterly random. Stacie won the luck of the draw today!
So Stacie will win $100 payable via PayPal, at the conclusion of the contest, upon confirmation of eligibility.
And, in case you missed it, today's topic is BUSINESS - good luck everyone!
Congrats!
I almost squeeze in all 10, but my internet connection died in the last hour. :-(
