So I sent out about two dozen pieces of music to a lot of major publishers A YEAR AGO, and got a ton of rejections, but heard back from one of them today and they have offered a contract on one of my pieces. I'm very pleased, but proceeding carefully. I've been in this boat before, dealing with clauses and paragraphs in the contract, but all seems up front and well so far. Everything appears to be industry standards. All good! (I hope.)
The reason this is big news is because I've just spent the past 12 years publishing all my music myself. (Over 400 pieces) So to have a major publisher take interest gives me a little enthusiasm to keep writing fresh, original stuff.
Just wanted to share the news with my friends here!
Oh Daniel, That is well deserved Congratulations to you!

I'm working with a young photographer to put together photo collages of my music and posting them on youtube as videos. I'm hoping it won't be much longer before I can write hubs and post vids of the music.
I'll keep you posted...
Oh awesome one! Just goes to show, if you don't give up on your dreams, you will eventually achieve them!
I've been publishing for over 25 years, and have never published with a big publisher.

Congratulations!
Get a lawyer to once over the contract before you sign!
Congrats! What wonderful news. And, I agree with you... and Churchill.
I am inspired! It is always great to hear someone having success and making it one step closer to their dream. I may not be a musician of any sort but a dream is a dream and to hear the stories of people making good steps toward their dreams is always inspiring, thanks for sharing this with us!
Thanks, everyone, for you well-wishes!
I wrote choral music for churches for over 30 years, and have a lot of it published with smaller, regional publishers, as well as publishing a few hundred pieces myself. Nothing big, but it adds up, except when you're the publisher, if you don't have a broad consumer base, you always use your earnings for printing, promotion and distribution. So I'm glad to have major choral publisher interested.
The company does a lot more than choral, and I'm heading into a lot of new areas. There are some great opportunities coming my way through musical theater and possibly some film. Things I've wanted to do for a long time.
I'm familiar with music contracts, and this one seems very standard. Nothing out of the ordinary, so I feel pretty good about it.
I'm working with a small group of people to create some music videos to post on youtube. I doubt I'll get to any of the choral stuff for the videos. I'm focusing on instrumental pieces, songs, and previews of the musical and other things I'm working on. Should be fun. Very time consuming.
It's hard to find time to do all this stuff when I work a full-time job as well, but I'm enjoying the process a lot.
Thanks again!
That is absolutely FANTASTIC news, Daniel! Congrats! It is well-deserved. I wish you all the very best!
Daniel what fabulous news. Congrats and here is to the music world picking up many many more of your pieces.
