Those people who talked about Bubblews in a negative way should take a new look at the site.  The writing there has improved a lot since I joined four months ago.  A lot of familiar names and faces have appeared over there that came from HP.
The new payout is $50.00 now, not the old $25.00.  I have redeemed many times at the old 25.00 amount, and never had any problem being paid.  Now, I'll have to work harder and write more!
I have Hubs that perform well, and I will leave them alone.
My first love is HP, and I learned a lot from HP for which I am grateful, but I need to earn more money so I look to Bubblews to make money.

I tried to say this before but never had any real experience with Bubblews to draw from. There is no comparison really and when people say Bubblews is outperforming HP it upsets me.

The writing there hasn't improved.  If you browse the site instead of reading your connections' work, you'll see there's just as much broken English and mindless drivel as before.

However, I agree no one should be comparing HubPages and Bubblews.   They are completely different.

      - HubPages is a magazine-style site where you contribute meaningful articles to earn long-term income.   Bubblews is a social networking site where you contribute short personal posts to earn short-term income.

      - You make money on HubPages by promoting your work outside HubPages.  Socialising with the  community is for fun and motivation only, and won't help your income one jot.   Whereas on Bubblews the bulk of your income comes from socialising.

When I joined HubPages, I was told to take the long view - what I wrote today would repay me in a year's time.  The articles I wrote then are still earning today, even though I've barely touched them. I suspect I won't be able to say the same about Bubblews.

Last week I thought I'd try to redeem another $25 before the threshold went up.   I spent a couple of hours each morning on Bubblews and went from $2 to $25 in six days.  I can see why people find that exciting - $25 in six days!   But wait a minute - I spent at least 2 hours there every day, which is 12 hours.   That's $2 an hour!   That's dreadful money, you could make more selling articles on Fiverr - and you could certainly make a lot more writing freelance.

About it being $2 an hour that you earn, that is correct. If people are thinking it's like a job or a livelihood, they are mistaken and in for a disappointment. If they think it's what they do instead of Facebook but get paid for it, then they'll be alright with it. There is a tiny bit of residual income to be made there; I've left the site for a day, after I'd cashed out, and found 3-5 dollars in my bank when I came back. I don't really know if that would continue indefinitely if I never went on there. I think something would be earned indefinitely, though, because some of my posts continue to get traffic and they are many months old. I don't think it's as much as you can make on HP passively, but it's a little.

Edit: And, yes, I'm certain there's much more to be made freelancing.

I haven't written a post since 11/5 and there is $12.94 in my bank, which could only come from the posts I wrote. I haven't visited to like, comment or read.  So you are correct about residual income.

If you total up all of the time I've spent on HubPages and divide it by the number of hours I've spent here, It would come out to way less than $1 an hour. Now I'm earning a little more here, and working it much less, but it will still be a while before it averages out to $2 an hour.

        1. Marisa Wright profile image87
Marisa Wrightposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Sherry, how are you calculating your effort?  Are you counting hours you spent on HubPages forums, reading and commenting on other Hubs, following other Hubbers, or on Q&A?  Those are social activities which have nothing to do with earning money, so you can't count them in your "effort".

This is where most people get the comparison wrong.  On Bubblews, socialising is an essential part of earning income, because most views are internal.  On HubPages, 90% of income come from outside views, so socialising is almost irrelevant.

So when comparing return on effort, you would count socialising time on Bubblews but not here.

I enjoy Bubblews and got paid for all my work. Now that they made the minimum payout $50.00, it also appears that the payments go through faster as well. Prior to the change, it was taking about 2 weeks for a payment to go through, it seemed that Paypal didn't trust Bubblews either. So that didn't help their reputation.

I still write on other sites, because I miss "real" article writing that is researched and intelligent. There is some intelligent stuff on Bubblews, but it has to be short. I'm having a little trouble with that. It is impossible to write back to all your notifications, you have to consider a handful who will write back to you, and not bother with most of them. Hubpages and Bubblews are very different from each other, HP doesn't pay you for interacting with others, but Bubblews does. I like the mix of using both.

I was going to post something about carrots on there, but decided to give it to HubPages instead.  If it's not getting organic traffic within 30 days, off to Bubblews it goes for a quick 50 cents.

I agree with what you said here. I still love HP, I've learned pretty much everything I know about online writing here and continue to write Hubs and my Hubs do alright, not too bad at all. I have no intention of quitting. But I like Bubblews too, it's a different kind of cat, not better or worse. The payments, which I've always gotten, have been very helpful to me, let's just put it that way. And you're correct, the writing has improved there at Bubblews. That it gets so much attention (publicity) shows it is successful; otherwise, it would be ignored altogether.

hi Mary. I'm still listed on Bubblews, as fictionwriter, I just haven't written anything since 11/5 because I am so over-extended it isn't funny. While writing here at HP, I also have some freelance jobs, a blog that hasn't been posted on in 2 weeks, and am working on a new novel, so there is just no time to be had.

With that said, I also found the content and quality of writing on Bubblews left a lot to be desired, esp those who write about their everyday lives, for which I have little or no interest, and the grammar, punctuation and typos which are rampant (mostly due to translator programs, I suspect).

The site driven engine is the connection/like/comment system and I found I was spending upwards of four or more hours a day there with no light at the end of the tunnel for an exit.  I may go back to it but it will have to be on a very short rein so I can keep getting my other work done.

I wish I could parlay some of my articles from my blogs to HP as well as Bubblews, but the editing process is tedious so as to avoid duplicate content.  Now that they have upped the ante to $50 payouts, it will be all that much harder for people to meet the goal given their busy time restraints.

I'm not throwing in the towel yet, I'm just in a never ending state of getting (and keeping) my time organized. I'm glad you are doing well there, Mary.  Hope to see you soon.

This is why I have not joined Bubblelews.  The quality of writing is just not there.  I am glad those of you who have gone there have raised the bar some.  I am saddened it outranks and performs HP.  I prefer quality over making a fast buck but I understand why people are drawn there for the money.  It is great if you need to make some quick money.  This is illustrates the American economy and the American way.  We sacrifice quality all the time to make the fast buck.  The Bubblelews phenomenon doesn't surprise me at all.

  10. lovebuglena profile image86
    lovebuglenaposted 10 years ago

Main reason people join bubblews is to make money... and because they can make money easier and faster than here at HP. Since that's the case it shouldn't really matter about the quality of the posts people publish so long as you make money on there. The downside is you have to interact with other bubblers by reading, liking and commenting on their stuff and if their posts are terrible it's hard to read/like/comment on their stuff. And you lose interest in doing so.

  11. SweetiePie profile image82

When people do not get paid on Bubblews, it is usually because they did not follow the rules.  Bubblews will not always get back to people about it either, but they said they are working on it.  Personally, do not care if people complain about a site, but it really does not have a point.  Just focus on your own blog if you do not like how a site does things.

  12. daisydayz profile image84

They are very different types of sites. Like many have said Hubpages is for quality articles making long term income, Bubblews is like status updates on Facebook, I wouldn't spend any really time on bubblews writing serious posts or articles as they just don't rank on goggle, and after a few hours nothing but your top 5 posts or your posts on your home page make any money or gain any views. It is very flash in the pan in that sense. I am simply there to make a little money while I have some spare time, but I know if I don't post for a day or two I will barely make a few cents. I spent a lot of time on hub pages when I first joined so have a good collection of articles and haven't needed to touch them for around 5 months, yet they still pay me at least a minimum payout every month - this is far better in my books personally!

The  reason of complaines. It is because some people are waiting to be pay for their articles. The reason for not getting any money. It is because they did something wrong with their hubs. Everyone with no pay need to read hub pages rules. Good luck to all of you.

You are so right errorantes.  I see some Hubbers trying to link back to HP on their posts.  That is a big NO NO.  Links are allowed, but only if they contribute to the content of the post.  Also, people don't attribute their photos properly, so they don't get paid.

While it's true that Bubblews contains a lot of nonsense, there is a fair amount of amateurish writing on HP, too.  Another thing I like about Bubblews is that we get a lot of insight into the writers' personalities, and I find that interesting.  The cyberfriendships seem more personal and genuine.  HP offers a better opportunity to be really creative, especially if you're particularly tech savvy, but Bubblews enables better relationships.  And, I finally hit the magical $50 mark on HP in October, but haven't seen any money yet.  Another hubber told me it comes automatically, so I'm still waiting.

Thanks, paradigmsearch, another hubber, who is also on Bubblews, told me in November that I'd get it automatically at the end of the month.  But, it hasn't showed up.  HP does have my PayPal account info and the correct email address.  I haven't been active on HP for a few months, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.  I just checked my PayPal account for the last 30 days and it's not there.

And so I did...their claim is that I reached the plateau this month (Dec) and will be paid on or about the 28th of Dec.  According to my earnings page I reached the plateau in October.  I had a couple of Editor's Choice awards and my earnings for that month jumped by over $20.

But, going by their claim that I reached the plateau in Dec. would mean that I would be paid in January, yet they said I'd be paid this month.  Doesn't compute, does it?  We'll know in a couple of days.

Go to your bank on Bubblews and make sure your Paypal address is entered there. Mine disappeared after I set it up for some reason and I had to go back in and re-enter Paypal address.  When I redeemed 3 weeks ago, I had to actually click REDEEM to get the money. No one ever told me I would get it automatically.  I got it within 3 days in my Paypal.

So check your settings. If your Bubblews bank still says your true amount, then you didn't redeem it.

Now that their threshhold is $50, if you don't have $50 you will have to wait to get there to click REDEEM.  Drop Bubblews Support 1 or  Bubblews Support 2 a note and see what answer you get, if any. Post a bubble on it, you will get tons of advice esp about updated redemptions. Good luck.

That makes sense, because HubPages is not a social networking site, whereas Bubblews is.

I love the community on HubPages but unlike Bubblews, community activity on HP doesn't help you earn income.  The really serious Hubbers here don't follow many people, rarely comment on Hubs and rarely visit the forums. That's because the  paying traffic comes from outside HubPages, so they spend their time connecting with potential readers outside.   You don't start earning real money on HP until at least 80% of your traffic comes from external sources, so it's important to get your priorities right.

On Bubblews, on the other hand, you make most of your money from internal traffic, so there's a powerful incentive to engage with the community.

Yes, Mary.....There have been numerous negative articles on Bubblews.  Most, if not all of them about non-payment.  I was happy to read your post, because I admit that the negativity got to me, when so many people complained about the same thing.  Who couldn't use extra money?  Thanks to you, I will probably spend more time working on Bubblews now.  I sort of backed-off.  The other thing I'd like to hear your opinion on, is the way they post our notifications.  It seems so overwhelming to me.  The part I don't get is that they inform us when ANYONE posts on the same thread that we do......as if it's something we need to check out or reply to.  All that extra time going back & forth is senseless.
You know what I'm saying?  "So & so has commented on your comment".........when in fact, so & so actually only commented on a post that YOU also commented on.   I realize it's a similar system at HP......but much more comprehensible.....I think.
I've noticed that numerous Hubbers are now bubbling and this is good.  Wouldn't it be wonderful...in fact, IDEAL, if HP could pay out a bit more?  We are all so devoted to HP.

I agree with you about their method of notifications!  It's a pain in the neck!  The word is they are going to improve that.  I wish they would pattern their "comments on your post" like HP.  I pretty much ignore the "commented on your comment" unless I've asked a direct question.  I still have nothing but good things to say about Bubblews!  I still say if a person doesn't get paid, they have broken rules!  I've always been paid what is due me.  What is your user name over there???

I sometimes have trouble pronouncing your surname Will.

Uh, Happy Xmas by the way.

Happy Xmas to you too, Mark.

We should all spread a little cheer at thissss time of year.

But I am serious about those names. Names no one can remember (or spell) are absolute death to anyone who writes online.

Well I don't say "Xmas" for one thing. I am not so lazy that I can't type in the name of Christ, the reason for the holiday in the first place. You have gone full on pagan Im afraid.

'Xmas' is not a recent crass commercial abbreviation.

The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass,[1] while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός which comes into English as "Christ"

(Bit of copy and paste from wikipedia there, since I am no Greek scholar.)

It is odd though, that you see all this 'Happy Holidays' stuff. It is Xmas or Hanuka or whatever is meaningful to you.

I agree. One of our cashiers at work said he was trying to stop saying "merry Christmas"... he said he knew some ppl celebrated different holidays so he was trying to remember to say "happy holidays". I understood he was trying to be a good employee and politically correct so I just nodded, as I do when I am holding my tongue, but I think it's sad when you can't speak of the holiday you're celebrating. It should maybe go like this, "Merry Christmas!" "Thank you sir, and a happy Hanukkah to you!" or something like that.

I must have said Happy Christmas to a couple of dozen people this week. I don't know if any of them were Christians. No one died, anyway. No one even seemed upset. In fact most people seemed to like the gesture.

So, I will stick with it.

I got told off by someone else for saying "Happy" Xmas not "Merry".  Makes no sense to me.  They're lucky I wished them anything. To me "Merry" sounds like old fashioned Christmas with church and stuff.

I appreciate that Christians may have a problem with it but it is one giant shared commercial holiday - with a vast variety of ways to celebrate.  For me I get time off work and do as little as possible.

No Comparison between the two... Both are different in their concepts...

Bubblews is like a social networking site, with internal traffic we can make money and some traffic from searches as well. And regarding the payments, no problems at all. Obviously, who do not follow the rules will never get paid. Unfortunately, the team bubblews have not explained many users initially why they aren't getting paid, and that work they have begun now. Since, there was no reply and also poor communication with the users by the Team Bubblews, many users left the platform. If bubblews grow - that is a threat to the FB.

HubPages, my all time favorite, is the best article writing site. The concept is completely different from bubblews. On HP we write and we get paid when we get more traffic from search engines. If the users in here are active just like the users in Bubblews, we can make more over here as well. A better notifications system is needed, perhaps, to make the existing users more active.

The users on HP must understand one simple concept, visiting other's hubs and liking them will boost the traffic (though leave a comment or don't) and the same will take the hub to page one or SERP...

We need on HP a better mechanism to make the existing users to participate more in hubbing (visiting each other's hubs, liking, commenting, etc)...

I do some writing on Bubblews.  It is definitely not the same as hubpages.  It's more informal writing and there are a lot of people who just seem to use it to post status like "articles".  You can make money on it, but I don't feel the art of writing is taken as seriously.

I am working towards my first $50 so this is encouraging. I like both HP and Bubblews.
