I respect the work of many hubbers, but at the very top of my list is 'peeples'. I am a great fan of this extraordinary woman and when you go to her profile page you will see why.

Peeples is now homeless. Follow this link to her story. http://peeples.hubpages.com/hub/A-Real- … melessness and meet her family. I am asking all hubbers to help peeples through this tough time. Here's what I propose ...

    1) Let's all put links to her hubs - particularly her health hubs - from our personal websites or any forums or other sites we visit. it would be great if we can help increase her HP payout by driving traffic to her hubs. She has a bunch of really good hubs to choose from.

    2) If you live in the US, perhaps you can help her husband find a job. I don't know where they are currently living but I'm sure if we offer encouragement and ask on her homeless hub she'll tell us. Surely there's a hubber near peeples and her family who could take some positive action to help them get work - and a home.

We all talk the talk about helping people when they are in trouble. Now we have the chance to walk the walk.
    http://peeples.hubpages.com

Peeples asked for advice some time back when she was facing homelessness. I regret being too slow in writing my hub with hints. She'd lost her home by then. I hope you'll help me help her now.

This is, after all, a community - not just your average website. Thanks. smile

I wrote a comment on her hub. I think your idea is a good one, but it would still be a month or more before she and her family would see any real funds.

I left a suggestion on her hub that would get her funds within a few days.  I don't know if the idea of my suggestion is permissible to do so on HP, but I hope so.

It does not sound like this family can afford to wait much longer.  It sounds desperate and I asked for others to follow my pledge to her and her family.  It will take a village, and this community can be that village.

Isn't there a way to do some kind of crowd funding? I don't know if that's the correct term for it. I remember a family that became homeless, I think someone on Reddit set up something on one of those sites where you can place a crowd-funding type thing and ask for donations; I want to say IndieGoGo, not sure though. That would bring money right away, I'd think. They are in an emergency situation, they need something immediately. I think we should get the ball rolling in this way; donations from crowd-funding site.

IndieGoGo is great for such projects. I will look into one creating one such project later and will keep everyone advised.

          crowdtilt(dot)com

I've personally used gofundme (for a different reason) and it worked great. Peeples...if you're seeing this, check it out.
So easy to set up and no cost unless money is made. I got $200 for a baseball team in just a couple days. I'm sure you'll do better.

I suggested that she post her paypal address on the hub so she could receive donations directly and not have to wait for traffic to get to her hubs for HP to pay her out.  Paypal is secure, funds would go straight to her without a middleman. I pledged to donate and since leaving  this suggestion  on her hub  others have said they thought it was a good idea and/or would donate also.

LongTimeMother - thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I don't know what his experience is in, but Sonic (the drive-in burger joint) is doing a lot of hiring for summer. The local Sonic franchise here in Indiana is doing a lot of hiring managers as well, and that could go for other Sonics around the country. They might be worth a look. I'm way behind so maybe he's found a solid job by now, but even car hops make AMAZING money because of tips. Hubby hopped for a day and made $50 on top of his salary.

I wish I was a millionaire and I’d send her and her family a check. That’s my biggest wish for getting rich. I’d love to stand in grocery stores and see anyone who could use help and just write them checks.

I’ll do what I can though.

If you click on her website link (icon in upper right) at her HP profile page, even through her site hasn't been updated in a long time, there is a donate button - I assume this is attached to her paypal account. It's just a matter of whether she has her account linked to a bank account and can access the money...

Mary McShaneposted 10 years agoin reply to this

I do see that now. I didn't even see the link to her website on her profile until just now. Maybe if we publicize that link for donating it will eliminate putting her paypal address out there. Still get her funds, just have to give her a heads up on the happenings. I don't know how often she gets to check her HP, paypal or email. sad

Donation complete. I sent her an email to let her know also. She probably is using wifi wherever she can, so checking in is sporadic. I trust she will see it and know from the email.  I am so thankful I can help out even if it is just $25.  Thank you for locating that donate button gts68,

http://movingpastincest.blogspot.com/ that's her blog address, there is a donate button at top right, using credit cards or paypal, whichever one prefers.  Paypal leads to her real name and I felt safe enough donating using that. Just some FYI for whomever is wondering where to donate or how they can help.

This is indeed a scary thing to endure - and Peeples is right; those things can happen to anyone. A few thoughts that might help her, in case she reads this:

It sounds like they're in the USA, because she mentioned a 401k account. If so, and even if her husband was at a fairly small firm (much less a large firm), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) should have kicked in due to the nature of his health condition. It sounds like he had been there for a while, and FMLA provides that people suffering serious health issues (hospitalization is one of the triggers) can miss up to 12 weeks of work and not be at risk of losing their job.

Payment for that time hinges on whether they have suck leave or vacation leave accrued.  Failure to adhere to the provisions in FMLA is a serious violation, and could be grounds for a suit. The burden is in the employer to INFORM an employee of FMLA rights as soon as the health situation is known, which can be when the employee brings it forward, or can be triggered by an absence of more than three days for covered events, or (most definitely) when there's a hospitalization.

Unemployment: People who are terminated without cause (which this sounds like?) should qualify for unemployment. You can file for it for quite a while after being terminated. While it does not substitute for the lost income, it helps.

    Prayers for the right outcome.

Yes, definitely she should seek out legal aid in her state to help them correct this situation.  So sad and it sounds to me like definitely something questionable going on here legally with the husbands former employer sad.

Thanks everyone for responding in the way I had hoped.

Peeples has responded on her homeless hub. She is viewing by phone so she may not see any advice left here on the forum. Please put your advice for her directly on her hub if you haven't already.

She also left her current email address, but I'm not sure whether or not that is linked to her paypal. As soon as we know the money is going to the right place, I'll be making a cash contribution.

Makes me very proud of the hp community. smile

Thank you everyone. I have been off HP for a while and got an email saying one of my articles was shared on twitter. I only access HP via phone now so I logged in to find an amazing amount of support from other hubbers. I am very thankful for a very unexpected amount of replies. I want to update everyone. We are now in a month to month home. Been here almost two weeks. Its small for our family but its a roof. We are still paying on deposits and unsure how we will stay if my husband is unable to find work soon. He does have an interview lined up Monday.  I am still working but hours have been reduced some. We are trying and will continue fighting to get back to where we were. For now we are happy for a roof even if we still don't have furniture to sit on! We are slowly getting bback on track. Thank you again everyone for your amazing kindness.

        Yup.

I wonder why they removed it and banned her though? Does anyone have any insight?

I can see why HP wouldn't want to set a precedent of panhandling here on the forums, but she wasn't asking for donations for peeples, or for people to click on her ads. Just promoting her hubs.

Threads where the OP is flat-out asking for money are allowed to stay up. Personally, I would rather see those removed.

I am very sad to see that ltm was banned due to this. I had not been on HP for weeks when she posted this.At no point in time have I ever asked anyone for anything and all ltm was asking was for people to share my hubs. Last I checked sharing other hubs is encouraged not punished. I have been a member of HP for over 3 years. It saddens me to know that HP is against people showing kindness and compassion. It really shows the type of people we are all paying (Through their profits on our hubs).
With that said the support shown for me during this time in my life will never be forgotten. Thank you all! I hope this is still visible.

Hopefully it is just a temporary ban -- I do not know. LTM did not ask for Hubbers to click ads or visit her pages enmasse. She just suggested we give her some link love. I guess that is against policy. It seems like it wouldn't be. She said she was very careful in wording her post. Here's what she wrote:

  19. LongTimeMother profile image96

Hi. Don't worry about me. I'm fine. I am surprised I was banned though.

I noticed that someone had copied and pasted spam on this thread - not once, but four times. I thought it would be a good idea to have it promptly removed so I flagged each of the individual posts. Next time I logged on I discovered I was temporarily banned from the forums. I have no idea what I wrote that deserved a ban, but I don't regret beginning this thread - and I am so pleased that other hubbers share my concern and commitment to helping peeples and her family in their hour of need.

For anyone who stumbles across this thread and has no idea what we are talking about, here is the very beginning of my initial post.

So, was it just a mistake that you were banned?  Did anyone from HP apologize?  How did you find out that you weren't banned anymore?

I've noticed that there are few Hubbers on the Forum who have been on the platform more than two years.  Did they all get banned?  HP doesn't seem to foster long-timers and I've never seen a business operate this way.

    1. LongTimeMother profile image96
LongTimeMotherposted 10 years agoin reply to this

I'm not saying it was a mistake, Writer Fox - just saying it was a surprise to me. Someone must have decided to put the ban in place. I wrote more in my initial post which I believed (still do) was perfectly acceptable. I actually saved a copy of the entire thread shortly before I was banned. A few other comments from other hubbers are also missing from the current version but I have no idea if they were banned or not.

When I was banned it told me the time frame. I have yet to decide whether or not I will continue being as actively helpful as I used to be. I will certainly stay with hp however. It is a nice way for a writer to make extra money. smile

There is a huge difference between what LTM did and overtly promotional forum posts. I’m hoping it was a mistake because in every rule there has to be a filter. I saw nothing posted that was about anything to do with one of LTM’s hubs. A far as I knew, and I have seen it, we can post a link to someone else’s hub if we think it is great or for any reason.

Isn’t the rule against “self promotion”?

If we aren’t allowed to say anything on behalf of another hubber, I could point to a lot of threads.

It was very human and I like that and so did a lot of people. I’m glad to see there was a mistake made or that a second thought was given. It means there are humans making decisions.
