Personally I prefer to follow people with a profile picture, even if it's not a real picture of them. Profile pics helps you connect better with the writer in my opinion.

Sure, if they were writing of things that interest me. A profile picture doesn't really mean a whole lot. I think it does add interest though and is beneficial.

I feel the same way.  If I don't see a picture I think they have something to hide.  Please all of you out there with out a picture, put one.  It will help us follow you better and it will be good for your Hubs.  With Love...from me...to you!

Victoria Lynn, I rely on those author profiles and illustrations/profile photos.  To be honest with you, I will bypass anything if this information is left out.   I feel that if you are serious enough to post your work on HubPages, you will make an effort to do the profile and photograph because it is the only presentation a reader can go by besides your work.  The most frustrating thing for me about HubPages is that most writers use pen names.  A lot of these pen names are way too cutesy for me.  I can, through my experience, spot an inexperienced writer.  This is how it goes for me:  No profile or photograph to give me a hint on what you're about--I pass and move on.  A profile also helps if you are established as an expert in the field of law, medicine, law enforcement, teaching, etc.  Otherwise, as a reader, how are you going to convince me that you know the subject you're writing about?

The grey silhouetted fedora guys...?  I write a lot late at night because...I'm unemployed and that also seems to be when the creativity strikes.  As such...I see a lot of them pop up...I will usually check the profile before reading the hub.  I often find that they are telling me the best insurance to buy...they joined 23 minutes earlier...the hubs a link to an insurance site.

    I like a picture my own-self.

when i first came to the Hub I didnt. However, after reading through hubs for those that didnt have a profile pic i began to follow and vote up many of the hubs because they were great.
your profile is extremely important wherever you publish your work.
    this is an article on the subject of your profile pic and the importance of it;

I have not followed anyone without a profile picture because a picture does paint a thousand words. If I like the hubs and the author has a profile picture, I will follow, it's simple as that.

No, I am not likely to follow someone without a profile picture because it seems to be anti-social to the HubPages community.  But, I guess if they were an awesome writer and I liked to read their Hubs, I would follow them, picture or not.

My instinct to follow is a result of the content of the hub and the multiplicity of the hubber.  An image doesn't make the content awesome but it gives a visual personality, which can make it feel more like a connection. My mother always told me it's what's inside that counts.

I am not as likely to no, and one reason is I think is because we can't always even know by a name if it is a male or female and it seems less personal. I like feeling I know a little of someone I am following and if I don't even know that....

Nope. If they can't be bothered to load a picture, then I can't be bothered to follow them. Just seems lazy to me. And if they are going to be lazy with just a pic, then how are their hubs going to be?

Usually I prefer a profile pic but I read the hubs and then decide. I do suggest they add a pic too.

Why not ? The picture may not be the person anyway so what difference does it make ....?
Some people prefer a picture of a flower instead of one of themselves ( like me !) Because there is no picture doesnt mean the Hub is not interesting..dont judge a book by its cover.

For me I feel that people with pofile picture even if the picture wasn't their sounds much real than people without profile so I would follow them, if they didn't has a profile picture I will not follow them unless I see something they are writting about that intreset me.

I would prefer to check his or her work on hubs.

If his or her hubs have information which is really helpful than I would definitely follow them.

Si the base line is I prefer inner quality of people not the look.

  18. Escobana profile image81

I would. Depending on the quality of their Hubs and profile information. I am surpirsed though, how many Hubbers are answering here they wouldn't, having nothing more but a profile picture in disguise, not making it able to see your 'real face'.

A flower, a dog, a pig or whatever picture. It seems to me, those who have pictures like these without showing their 'real self', can't be expecting a 'real face' of a fellow Hubber. If that's what you prefer, why don't do the same?

YES! if what they are writing is interesting enough to me. I mean what's in a picture anyway? How do you know the picture is of them? They might just put up a character like a frog, then what?

Good question. I go back and forth. Sometimes I think we put way too much about a persons talent behind their looks. Other times I wonder why they can't put up a pic. I will follow the goods, but this question made me think.

Not me.  I feel like if someone doesn't take the time to upload some sort of picture - then they don't take the time to write much of anything worth reading either.

Not normally, it seems to be a sign that their not really invested in hubpages, you can sometimes see that on other sites, often users sign up then lose interest so there wouldn't be anything to follow.

  23. Seeker7 profile image78
    Seeker7posted 13 years ago

I tend to follow more people who have a photograph. But I mostly decide after reading their portfolio and reading their hubs. Having said that, I have had a follow from hubbers who don't have a photo up and I've given them a follow back.

  24. Goody5 profile image59
    Goody5posted 13 years ago

Sure I would. It's a matter of choice, and also not everyone out there in this world knows how to upload a photo or picture from their computer. Sooner or latter they might have some else do it for them or even learn how to do it for themselves, and then upload a picture that they like.

guess i better get a pic posted real soon if i wanna be popular.

but we buy books without a picture on the front cover...?

i've chosen not to put a pic up though, cuz i'd rather be followed for the content of my writing.
