What Writing on Hubpages Can Do For You

   Sometimes I read the forum postings and think that we forget that one of the many things that writing on hubpages can do for you is establish some name recognition as an author. 
   
   For example, one of my hubs (Casket Girls Oysters) caught the eye of a freelancer for Ancestry Magazine (owned by Ancestry.com) and is in this months issue.  That hub led to an telephone interview and being quoted in both this months online magazine (article titled Here Come the Brides by Kelly Burgess. 
   
   There isn't a week that goes by that I don't get offers (albeit some of them quite crazy).  So what I'm saying is don't just think in terms of hubscores and adsense.  Look at the big picture with your hubs in terms of being recognized and drawing a wider audience and potentially attracting other freelance work.  Look at them as living breathing portfolios of your work.
   
   I've already gotten five offers this morning.  If I can do it anyone can.

         Thanks r2moo2!  I've written a few on my tips for writing, like I'm a fan, You're a fan and What We Owe Our Readers.  Have some I'm working on to try to inspire others to raise the bar on their quality of writing.

      Thanks everybody!  I think sunforged said it best about the fringe benefits.  He and relache both give good advice when it comes to hubs and I learn a lot from them.
      
      
      
      Thanks Aya!  I'm very much aware that there a large number of very talented writers here (including you).  One of my points in sharing this minor kudo --  is that we see far too many hubbers fall by the wayside because they don't have the patience to keep on working at it.

   I frequently get requests for coaching,offers from advertising networks and opportunities for joint ventures as a result of my involvement in hubpages, in the long term many of these connections may turn out to be very enriching

    I would love to do this for a living, but I'm not really a writer and I guess you might say I do this for fun. I haven't even made any affiliate money doing this. But it would be nice but I'd have to get more creative. And perhaps learn to write. Maybe I'll try but if its really bad I might hold you responsible. (just kidding)

       Sorry you misinterpret!  My intent is to encourage others.  We all post when we have good news to share hopefully for that purpose and yes, to toot our own horns -- most of us work very hard in the time that we've been here.  Don't know it all, but do know enough to try to help others. 
       
       Cheering each other on is what keeps hubpages and hubbers going.  For example, I thought your first hub about Craig's list was excellent.

          TT, I didn't interpret her post this way at all.  She is encouraging us as a community, she posted no links, look she has a score of 100 and spends her time writing articles that work!  Isn't that what we all want, or at least the majority of people here?

          I wouldn't have dreamed that this happens, until i read your post. This is so encouraging Jerilee. Thank you for sharing your achievement. It can only spur us hubbers on, knowing there is a remote chance of such opportunities out there on the WWW.
          And there is nothing wrong with your post. I actually saw a green haze swirling around TT's green skin!. He sounds sooo envious, its a trip!

          Jerilee, I think it's great that you've gotten recognition for your excellent content and writing. You deserve it. And your point that any of us have the opportunity, by writing on hubpages, to have our work recognized by publishers and  editors elsewhere, is well taken. I've had similar things happen to me that led to opportunities I never expected. Kudos to you.And thanks for sharing the good news.

          She doesnt need any hubtraffic, none of us do actually.
          
          A common theme in the forums, is wheres my money? How do I make money? Why arent i rich yet? etc.
          
          Jerilee, has pointed out a very significant benefit that everyone should keep in mind - with good quality content and high exposure, more and better opportunities can come. there are a spattering of success stories, of hubbers getting scooped up by news sites and being offered writing gigs etc.
          
          I mentioned that I have been offered exclusive advertising contracts - Im not looking for more hub traffic, I promise, it kills my CTR!  The Hub community is agreat sup[port group and entertainment, they arent really your client base..so you wont find expereinced Hub authors looking for hub traffic in illegitimate ways
          
          unless, this is a secondary account for you, you would have no way of making that judgement in 2 weeks time - as you wouldnt know the backstory

             None of us need HubTraffic?  Then let's tell HupPages to take it off their pitch and scoring system.
             
             If she want's to truly "help" us poor soles who are writing our Hubs wrong, then she should write a Hub about it instead of boast about her accomplishments in a forum post.
             
             She can be way more thorough and give links in her Hub.
             
             And in my 2 weeks here I have learned a lot.  Thanks.

                Well, if you don't really like it, you could just be quiet about it and email her personally.
                
                You are not even concerned with her well-being, and you are only emphasizing your own sense of justice upon others.
                
                Why do you have to be so skeptical in front of everyone and try to make her look bad?
                
                If this is not pride on your side, on your own sense of justice, then what is it?

                None of us have a vested interest in helping new people here: We do that generally because encouragement is usually respected.

    Traffic from Hubs is non-converting, your hub visitors will rarely buy from amazon or ebay, and they stay away from adsense like the plague.
    
    Thats the truth.
    
    You will not find anybody with any experience and understanding of their stats thinking otherwise
    
    You can learn a lot in 2 weeks Im sure, but you cant have a valid understanding of what the forum environmnet is, nor an understanding of the value of hubtraffic (there is some value..comments keep a page updated and more valuable in googles eyes, is one example)

       That is so true.  I haven't clicked on an adsense advert probably ever ... even now there's a really enticing one that I am seeing everywhere, I want to know who it is/what it is, but I won't click on it to find out what it is (not even on the hubs of complete strangers).

    I enjoy my writing on hubs, but it's the other work I've picked up from here that's been a real encouragement.
    
    When companies contact you to do some work for them it gives you a lovely fuzzy feel inside, even though I used to regularly write a column in a business magazine about Internet Marketing a few years back, the work I pick up from 'strangers' on the Internet is the best because it means something in my writing reached them.

    Yes, I agree with you about how great a tool hubpages is and can be. I use my articles every time I apply for a freelance job. It is true that our articles or hubs here are a living resume. The more versatile, the better they're written, the more filled with accurate information the better the chances of them finding their mark on the great wide web.
    
    And as for tooting your own horn...good for you...nothing wrong with that. I find it encouraging to see your success too.

    Jerilee, congrats on all your successes here and you keep tootin' your horn, baby! You deserve every bit of it.  I remember way back (a year ago!lol) when I first joined I remember looking at your hubs thinking, "gosh, how does she do all that?"  Your hubs are absolutely the most thorough.
    
    I have had one person offer me a job writing for them for their website, but I turned it down.  So, I appreciate what that means and how for me at least, I never would have dreamt that could be an outcome to writing here.  I know that's what your intent was by writing this forum thread. It was to let people know that you never know where this path might lead you.  The important thing is to stay on the path so that it can lead somewhere.
    
    TimTurner, I appreciate that you said you've learned a lot in two weeks, but its obvious that you still have a ways to go.  Like Darkside said, I too learn something every day here.

    Thanks everyone for the encouragement and kind words.  Luckily as a senior citizen, I have a strong sense of understanding that not everyone will see things the way I do, so I took no offense to TimTurner's comments or critique.  There's a learning curve that never ends here at hubpages and those of us who have been here longer know that.   
    
    Just everyone keep writing and don't give up, there are many fringe benefits that come with hubpages.  To me it's just sad that so many come and go here because they are so focused on scores and dollars (or pennies) that they don't see what a gift we have here.

    I think it's great, Jerilee.  You're a good writer and deserve all the offers you get, and are wise enough to weed out the undesirables.  More power to you!  I know you had to stay with it for a while to see these kinds of results, and the fact you're sharing this information is encouraging to many.

    What a hope inspiring post, jerilee. I think you were one of the first people to fan me when I came along. I was so dim-witted at the time, I had no idea what it meant, nor did I bother for a while to get involved in the community. I was overworked with a lot of things going on.
    
    Now I'm feeling a little more integrated, and very grateful for all the great people here who take an interest. The exchange of information in hubs alone is pretty amazing to me. Add to that the constant buzz in the forums and we have the makings of a perfectly dysfunctional neighborhood. (But fun, nonetheless.)
