I would want to know how a metaphor managed to get itself promoted to a real 'thing' - then why a supposed super creator of everything would want a bunch of morons to bow down and grovel at its feet - then I would close the childrens book and put it to good use propping open the hall door.

I presume you refer to the Bible. hmm

      Hardly a children's book!

Each to their own, I guess! hmm

I guess this is the problem with reading mytholgy and metaphor as fact, it is no different from those people who write to characters in tv soap opera - clearly believing them to be real people living real lives.  The mental ability to see comic books and fairy stories for what they are is usually an ability that kids are naturally born with. I guess if you intensely educate a kid enough that these things are real it could end up believing. Seeing reality is a kids trick that most people retain into adult-hood as their symbolic universe hardens around their thinking, The process that makes the characters of  myth a representation rather than a symbol can clearly be overcome by indoctrination. So yes - it is a kids book.

Yes - asking your metaphor for anything more than to take your kid to disney would be a bit beyond you I guess.

I think I'd want Him to explain to me why the atheists are so darn mad.

      1. profile image52
SpinDragonposted 13 years agoin reply to this

We are not mad at your beliefs.  We are mad when you try and force it on us, through try to get the government to change laws to go with the bible. There are many other religions in this country but christians think theirs is the correct one.  However the separation of church and state is in place to keep any one of them from taking control and trying to do away with the others. Which has been done throughout history when any one religion takes control, do we not remember the HOLOCAUST, Hitler was not an atheist, he was a professed christian and in cahoots with the church.  The way I see it you can believe anything you want but don't try and take away the freedom of others unless you want them to try and do the same to you. Such as, if you don't believe in abortion, don't get one.  If you don't believe in same sex marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex.
Don't try and get the government to tell me I have to believe in a certain mythical man in the sky, and I won't try and take your right to believe away from you.  Remember the "GOLDEN RULE"  that hardly any religious person adheres to: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."  But I think it should be changed to : "Don't try and take from others, if you don't want them to try and take from you." Most atheist believe that morality come from within, and people should be allowed to live as the want and be happy as long as it does NOT kill, mame, steal, rape, abuse or destroy.

If you mean "mad" as in angry, that's a non-question since on the whole they aren't angry any more than all non-atheists are so darn happy. If you mean "mad" as in insane, I doubt there's any real difference between atheists & non-atheists in that regard.

If you met god, what is the most important question you will ask him?

First off, IF a god existed- what is the most important question I would ask? I wouldn't talk to god. I would know enough and be wise enough to not bother opening my mouth, because god would already know what I was going to say, and could very well give me the answer to my question without it ever being spoken.

I would just walk away in disgust, because apparent god failed his creation. Only an arrogant, egotistical, selfish god would require any individual to recognize him/it/her/he/she or whatever.

The belief in a god only makes people selfish. End of story. Religious folk have that lesson ingrained into them through their belief in a god.

Welcome to the world of the selfish, where 2/3 of the world population is religious or has a belief in a god. Don't like, too bad.

I would ask him why I only have odd socks.  I put a pair in the washing machine, but only one ever comes out.  Today I am reduced to wearing a pink and a yellow sock, so I would like to know where the others have gone.  I suppose though, God might ask me why I am wearing pink and yellow socks in the first place.

      1. Pcunix profile image90
Pcunixposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Well, we already know that some gods hate pink.

Now, if you asked Her Holiness, the Invisible Pink Unicorn, of course she'd tell you to buy all pink socks:   invisible pink socks, which are absolutely impossible to lose in the drier and - this is important - you only have to buy them once, because they never wear out.

You can't find them on Amazon, but I have arranged a reliable supplier and can deliver high quality, completely invisible pink socks with a lifetime guarantee for a price we can discuss after I have an idea of your financial standing.

Specify exact size when ordering as I can no longer allow returns. Would you believe that people sent back empty boxes and demanded their money back?  Like I can't tell an empty box from one filled with invisible socks!

God is Energy, this Energy is what all mater; everything and everyone is made from.

Most souls asked for free will and were granted it. what they have free willingly chosen to do with their energy is what brought about all that is less than beautiful and wonderful in the world.

God is not the bad guy/gal....it is the choices of free will that brought about all that is wrong in the world...even the dogmas of religions have been distorted to create this negative concept of who God is and why and what he/she does "to" humanity.

God is Love....and that Love has been distorted.

The souls that have "fallen" are the biggest promoters of  "bad" God concepts. The fallen ones are who humanity needs to get a clue about and find out how to stop giving them our energy/power to misuse in destruction, etc...

Humanity needs to learn how to use their God given Energy for only good, love and peace...and not get caught in the traps that the fallen ones "set up" to ensnare us to do wrong things with our Energy.

I would say that if you take "god" out of this statement, it is just as useful advice. One doesn't need "god" or "fallen souls" to make good choices.

I would probably ask why was the existence of god or gods so confusing? If we were asking this question 2500 years ago we would be referring to the gods that existed then i.e. Zeus, Attis, Ba'el Set, Horus, Inanna ect. Why didn't we have some clear way to determine which was the "true" god or gods? Why waste so much time on a god or some gods that never really existed at all? Since very few people believe in Set or Attis or Zeus anymore, don't you understand that many people might see the poor history of the past as a good indicator that gods simply don't exist?

Why did he only create Adam and Eve and thus incest?
Why doesn't he just destroy evil and life can be paradise on earth rather than afterwords?
Why are we supposed to stand back and accept the bad things happen to us all because it is God's will?
Why can't justice be served in this life instead of the next?
How is it that across the world, people scream for him but he never hears them?
Why do so many suffer because of religion?

Not until the Apiru plundered Cana did anyone thing of a "god" as a masculine figure. All gods were female: as only females could create (generate) life. But the illusion of god was created to attempt to answer questions the weak of will and mind would not think for themselves. I do not ask questions of fantasies; I seek answers by scientific inquiry.

"12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." - Revelation 20:12-15

A few months ago I would've have laughed and joked around about God. But that all changed when my life was out of control and I got on my knees and cried out to the Lord.

I used to think God didn't exist but still again I would hear Christians talking about how God changes your life once you believe upon Jesus that died in the cross for our sins.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." - John 14:6

So there I was in the bottomless pit of my life. So I decided to give God a chance, So I accepted Jesus Christ into my life and asked forgiveness for my sins. And to be honest it was the best decision I have ever made. Trust me, your life changes completely (You will feel the love of God).

The problem with many of you is that you have never gave God a chance because you prefer to live in ignorance (Like I did) and then you talk about God like you knew him. You Joke around. You make fun of Jesus Christ that died for our sins so we can have eternal life.

I challenge you to give God a chance. Accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior and ask forgiveness because you have been living a life of sin.

Some of you are going to say "This Guy is crazy" and I understand and don't judge you because only God can judge you. But let me tell you something, LOOK around you, LOOK at how the world is coming to an end "Dont be foolish Luis!". LOOK at the catastrophes all around the world!.

If you would read the bible (Maybe gave the bible a chance; Dont judge a book by it's cover) you will see that everything that is happening right now in written in the bible. ALL the prohecies are happening.

Besides, today you might be alive but tomorrow you might not be... You really think that this life has meaning without God, if you do then may God have mercy on you. Just spend 5 minutes of time away from the television or computer and reflect on your life. Where you really born to fulfill your dreams of being a singer or rockstar or mechanic that didn't even exist 200 years ago?

May God Have Mercy On You And I Hope He You Come To Him.

In other words, rather than dealing with the problems that led you to that "bottomless pit" you decided instead to try religion.

First of all, that states volumes about using religion as a crutch, which means the problems you associate are still there and have not been resolved, And secondly, deciding to "give God a chance" says more about what you want to believe and what you want to do rather than what your god wants you to believe and do.

The fact that you are unable to come to terms with your problems and must turn to religion in order to appease does not mean others require the same crutch as they are able to think for themselves and deal with their problems.

So, we're foolish because we aren't being paranoid and believe that the world is coming to an end?

Nope, don't see that at all. What prophecies, exactly?

Spend 5 minutes back in reality to reflect on what you just wrote. smile

I think the more appropriate question is 'what will you ask yourself?'  We are all so much a part of the same strain of energy that we are literally creating 'God' as we go.  So, whatever questions we may wish to ask God we must first ask ourselves....This will inevitably lead us ever closer to discovering the truth about what God really is.

I'd ask him why he made 'abbreviation' such a long word?

I dont believe there is any question that I could ask him. I could only kneel at his feet thank him for saving me and worship him for eternity. He has blessed my life beyond belief

Please note if I type god without a capital G my spell check says fine but Google has to have a capital letter at the start or it is underlined in red.. go figure!

I know I said this in a hub once before, but the reason is that your spellchecker knows the sad truth. Google IS god! smile
