1. The highest peak in the continental U.S is located in California. The infamous peak of Mt. Whitney measures more than 1500 ft high at its summit. The public can climb this large mountain. However, permits are required to do so from the parks and recreation department.

2. California is famous for its enormous trees. So, much so that they even are designated to have the tallest Christmas tree in the world. The tree is in King’s canyon national park and stands at over 300 feet high.

3. Thanksgiving is a great time in California since it is the largest producer of turkeys in the nation.

4. The Santa Monica pier is one of the most known locations in all of California for amusement parks. It has vintage and new style amusement rides some that date back over 100 years and are still running.

5. The county of Alpine is a small community of about 50 people. There are not any schools, ATMS, banks, or even a traffic light. It is the smallest county in the state.

6. Avocados are one of the cash crops of California. Nowhere else in the nation are more avocados grown than in the city of Fallbrook

10. Toothpaste use to be a home remedy for taking care of bad teeth. It began at the Los Angeles county fair with citrus and orange by products to make your own tooth paste at home.

11. The railroad Museum in Sacramento is the largest railroad museum in the World.

12. California’s underground is a Criss, cross of underground caverns is known through the world. One of the most extensive is located in the Mother lode region of the State.

13. The largest county by acreage is located in the San Bernardino valley of California. The county covers almost 3 million acres and is the largest in the nation.

14. Protection for the Bald Eagle started in California, and it is now the largest Bald eagle habitat in the world the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge

15. Atwater, California has the largest museum dedicated to military aircraft in all of California.

16. The baker city general store has sold more California winning lottery tickets than anywhere else in the state over the last 30 years.

17. Fresno County holds the Guinness book of world record for shortest tenure of mayor. Joseph Spinney was mayor for only ten minutes.

18. The famous Hollywood bowel is the largest outdoor amphitheater in the country

19. Joanne Woodward was the first person to receive a start on the walk of fame on Hollywood blvd. It was presented in a grand ceremony, in 1960.

20. The first motion picture theater was opened in Los Angeles in 1902.
