Since there seem to be a lot of Kontera related questions, I've asked someone from the their team to come answer questions in our forum for the next day or two.  They'll be able to provide more in depth and accurate responses than I can acting as an intermediary.

So if you have any Kontera questions this your opportunity to get them answered.  Fire away right here in this thread.

I'm going to ask my latest questions on this thread as well; I hope you guys don't mind. Maybe the Kontera person will have more insight.

When you say "link density" are you referring to the number of links within the hub? If so, if a hubber were to notice that a higher than normal link count on their hubs more frequently than not, they can just request to the Kontera support that the "link density" be reduce?

And, in terms of "balancing the settings" are you referring to having the links dispersed evenly versus all clumped together like I noticed in Univited Writer's hub?

And, lastly (lol) if we adjust the setting for our ID, when the HP ID is present, does that mean that the ads could be drastically increased or decreased depending on your setting?

Thanks Paul.  I wanted to introduce myself and as we've started to see a number of you sign up for our ads, I'd like ot make sure there's a forum for you to get answers as quickly as possible.  My name is Mike Glover and I've been with Kontera for the better part of a decade.  I've been working on the publisher side to help bring contextually relevant revenue to 1000's of publishers over the years and I'm very excited at the opportunity to work with the HubPages team and all of their writers.

Please feel free to post questions here and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely fashion.  Our goal is to make our product work in conjunction with the other ad offerings you have while giving your readers an easy way to gather more information from the content their interested in.

Thank you for wanting to work with us and please know that we will do what it takes to make this partnership a success.

The link density is part of the optimization process to find the right balance between the size of the page and the number of linked KWs per page. We do have parameters in place to help with the spacing, and upon your recommendation, we can increase or decrease the density from what it's originally set at.  Simply write into support@kontera.com and ask that the number of links be decreased for your account.  These requests are usually done within 24 hours but sometimes if the request is made late in the week, depending on the number of requests in the queue, it can take a few days.

All of the changes that are made are specific to each unique JS.  We'll work to try and find the right balance for all HP tags so that regardless of which one you are using, the links should stay balanced to the HP specifications.  It's not in our best interest, nor is it in the readers, to have too many links per page.  The goal is find that balance of one, maybe two, links per paragraph that can allow a chance for monetization throughout the page, no matter what the page size.

There is an optimization process which is why I wanted to get this forum started, in most cases we ask that our publishers give us a few weeks to get things right, but with HP, we'll be working to find the optimal fit within the first few days.

Thanks Whitney,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Is Kontera able to place links only in paragraphs that don't already contain regular links? I don't mind the text link ads, but when they appear next to regular links, it can sometimes make things look cluttered and overly commercial.....

Thanks,

Isabella

How it all works is that we'll scan the page to understand the tone/topics of the page.  From there we will find the most contextually relevant KW on the page that matches the topic and that we have an advertiser for.  We will never link a hyperlink but if our selection of KWs happens to be keyword that is next a linked word, we might still link it.

However, if you'd wish to exclude links from appearing within a specific paragraph or section of your page, we recommend that you use Zone Tags.  Zone Tags are parameters that you can place within the HTML to tell our links where to appear and where not to appear.  There should be a set of instructions for implementing zone tags within your welcome email, however if you did not receive one, I can pass it along.

Thanks Isabella,
Mike

At present, it's not possible for HubPages authors to program zone tags.  The active zone goes from just below the title all the way to the end of the hub.  However, if there is sufficient demand, we can add an option to toggle Kontera on or off on a capsule by capsule basis.   More granularity than that will be difficult to implement, and I think potentially confusing.

We do our best to keep things simple so that you all can concentrate on producing great content.

How will your Zone Tags work if we can't edit in HTML on Hubpages? Hubpages doesn't accept HTML or at least that was my understanding.

Thanks for your time Mike,

Paul answered this, sorry about the post.

This sounds perfect -- if you do that, I'll sign up for it.

That'd be good.

Because I'd probably turn it off on my How To Hub hubs.

Darkside, you can already turn it on or off for individual hubs.

I think he is referring to it as he wants to have them on, but not to go throughout his whole hub. With the Capsule selecting he can put it on a small paragraph and the rest can be ad-free. I could be wrong, but thats how I understand it.

Ahhhh... no, I was talking about being able to turn it on or off for individual hubs. So we can do that!

Excellent.

All I have to do is to wait for my application to be approved. Which I submitted 2 days ago.

1) How we are different from Google Ads is in the fact that instead of providing search results on the outer portion of the page, we're linking keywords within the body of the page, the content, and giving readers a chance to get more information if they so choose.

2) We have over 13,000 publishers who are currently working with us and I would say that each one of them, or probably closer to 95% of them, are using us in combination with AdSense.  We're not here to replace adsense but rather provide additional options to the readers.   The benefit here is that you can increase the overall value of your real estate without having to sacrifice current ad inventory and while keeping in line with providing your readers with the most contextually relevant ads possible.

3) Text Link Ads can best be described as the double-underlined KWs that advertisers have purchased on a CPC.  Text Link Ads differ from traditional ads in that there's no 'creative' or no standard size to the advertisement, it's just a link.

I hope I've answered your questions here and if not, please let me know and I'll clarify.  I sometimes forget that in-text is still a new idea to most and I don't want to assume that everyone is up to speed with what in-text can be.

Thanks,
Mike
