Feeling in the holiday spirit of thankfulness, I composed this little trinket of poetry.  I hope you all enjoy it.  It's not what I would call "traditional poetry," but it is certainly heartfelt.

Oops, my mistake there.  Those 5 entries were from 11/7/11, and I put 11/8/11 as that is the day they go into the drawing.  Today I put in 4 more, for the 8th, to be entered into the drawing done on the 9th.

I am sure their computers know, and can tell what was posted each day by noon Pacific Time.

Because I don't plan to enter very many Hubs, here are the three I've entered to date, for those who are just waking up:

Thanks everyone - so many great entries thus far:

    Fiction:

have I missed a post? - why are there no photo winners?

    1. Simone Smith profile image85
Simone Smithposted 13 years agoin reply to this

There have been, on the whole, fewer photo entries to be honest, so Daily Drawing wins are less likely to end up as photo entries! I'm still hoping one randomly wins soon!

      1. profile image0
annmackiemillerposted 13 years agoin reply to this

thanks Simone but I thought there was a daily winner in each of the three categories

        1. Simone Smith profile image85
Simone Smithposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Aha! Sorry for the confusion. DD winners are for all categories, but there is a separate first, second, and third place prize for each category.

          1. SimeyC profile image82
SimeyCposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I think there is a lot of confusion surrounding this as it's totally different from the last few constests!  There is no 'best' award daily - the daily drawings are simply random (from all qualified entries) - so if there are 50 entries in the day you have a 1 in 50 chance of winning $50.

The only prizes for quality are the final '3' prizes per category.

annmackiemillerposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I confess to being disappointed - it looks as if the photo section isn't faring well simply because there are fewer entries.  which I think will only discourage folk from entering.  after all what is the point?

Hey everyone! Now that the first week of the contest is over, I want to remind y'all to keep adding the contest tag to entries and remember to include at least 500 words and only properly attributed and used photos. We've seen a bunch of entries missing these things and it's a shame that they should be disqualified!

If I'm only using photos I've taken, or private family photos, do I need to identify them as such or identify them in any manner?

      1. profile image0
kimberlyslyricsposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Hi Mickey, what I do is when your in edit mode of the photo you will see 'source'  I type my name, it displays quite faint, but I believe people like to see who the photographer is, as well as it is an informal, probably not even legal, but form of copyrighting your work.  Plus you can always add a quick description. smile  PS still waiting for more poetry

Boy I loved those shots, warmed my heart bravo smile

      2. Simone Smith profile image85
Simone Smithposted 13 years agoin reply to this

kimberlyslyrics offers a great tip, and we do recommend that you attribute your own photos (especially if they look professional) just so that we can be sure they're yours, but if they're clearly your own photos, you do not need to add any caption or source if you don't want to. Your copyright is implicit, and the photo (so long as it's yours) will be compliant with our contest requirements big_smile

For one of mine I used a photo taken by my sister who is a photographer. She gave me permission to use it, but I was unsure the best way to credit the photo. Does this sound right:

Used with the express permission of photographer, Kayla Anderson. Do not copy.
          Source: Kayla Anderson Photography

I linked the source to her website, though the photo is not actually published there.
