I have been a math tutor for more than half my life. I have noticed there are a few things that many students have issues with and I try to explain to them how to tackle things. The nice thing about numbers is that it doesn't matter from which direction you come at it, you can still come up with the same answer. And, because of that, you can also check your work. Come at a problem from two or more angles and if the answers match, you can feel relatively certain that you are correct.
