I tend to come up with goodies like rpoduce and thnaks...hte is another favorite, but for some reason my left hand had decided that any word that ends in "c" must have an "e" at the end. Go figger...

I often type family leaning when I mean family learning. It does cause some problems at work because I'm a family lea(r)ning coordinator so I often have to type it in my job title, reports, on posters and flyers, in emails and letters etc.

Also, some of the keys on my keyboard (I just typed eyboard and had to go back) have got crumbs under them so I am missing out random letters here and there. Last week the biggest crumb (or it could be a small french fry) was under the M, but I've turned my laptop upside down and shaken it and now it seems to be moving about under random keys (or maybe the crumbs have multiplied).

Ooh, I've just thought of another couple of words I often get wrong.

When I'm in a hurry I type "ov" instead of "of" and "of" instead of "off".

This is because when I learnt to read at school they used the inital teaching alphabet (ITA) and we were actually taught to spell those words like that, can you believe?  There's a BBC news article about it here Educashunal Lunacie or Wizdom?. When we'd learnt to read and write in ITA we then had to learn normal spellings, but by then some of the phonetic spellings had stuck in my head.

As Hubbers I think many of us type faster than we think, or than the computer can keep up with. There is no one word that I get wrong. Usually I just miss random letters out from typing fast. But because I don't really have to think about what I'm typing I have been known to think one word and then type a completely different one ... usually I notice before I post though.

  33. emievil profile image68
    emievilposted 14 years ago

I make them so many times I don't remember everything. Some of the things mentioned here - thanks, their/there, the, from/form. Sometimes I interchange it's with its (wrong spelling / wrong grammar *sigh*). Just now I misspelled grammar - became grammer.

Making a mistake can sometimes have funny consequences. I once typed backlog as becklog - not really anything in English but in our language, it's a matter of replacing some letters and it will really be a funny word. And to think that was on our class report. Good thing my teammate saw that but they never let me hear the end of it even after it was corrected.

When I chat on a messenger - little that one does - I seem to always miss out on the 'h' if it follows a 't.' For example, 'thing' always gets typed as 'ting.'

The surprising thing is that this happens despite the fact that I look at the keyboard while typing (with two or three fingers). And the mistake is only seen later, as I hit the enter key when about to look up at the monitor.

Maven, even we were taught that rule in school. But, I think there are as many exceptions to this rule as there are conformations. Apart from their, the other words that do not conform to the rule and readily come to mind are weird, vein, veil, conscience... I know there are more, but they are hard to recall offhand.
