I've been toying with this idea, which I know is going to get a lot of responses, but here it is:
In every weekly newsletter from Hubpages there is a Hubber put in the spotlight. I think this is an awesome idea, but it's kind of limited. This is not to say Hubpages is doing a bad job, I believe quite the contrary. However, the way it works is that each person chosen nominates three Hubbers, one of whom will be featured in the next week's newsletter. So, let's use my buddy Zsuzsy as an example. She got chosen (IIRC) and chose three Hubbers she would like to see in the newsletter. Out of those three, one was picked, and after they were chosen, they nominated three more. It's a nifty little system, and it ensures that by this time in five years, the archives of the newsletter will have interviews from some amazing Hubpages authors and show a quite diverse variety of the talent present on this page.
I am volunteering to spearhead a project called - Hubber of the Month. This would open up the prestige to the entire community at once, every month. The process would go like this:
During the first week of every month, any Hubpages author is allowed to nominate the Hubber they think should be recognized. I will set up an e-mail account exclusively for the nominations to be sent to so that the nominations are secret.
During the second week of every month, I will tally all the nominations and compile a list of the top ten nominees. This list of highly recommended Hubbers will be posted in a Hub where votes will be placed through comments - which I will set to approval only so that I can tally these secretly.
Still with me? Cool.
During week three I will tally up the votes, and once the votes are tallied, I will contact the winning Hubber with a brief interview, which I will include in the Hub where I reveal the winner.
What're the prizes? Well, in addition to the big huge patting on the back by the community, you will get a mention on a few blogs - with your chosen tracker code included - as well as on my Myspace pages and other social networking sites. I will change my forum signature to direct anyone who clicks to your profile, again with your tracker code inside.
I also have plans to create custom graphics for this little dealie I've got brewing, which I will provide the HTML coding that will direct people to each month's Hub where they can vote. This can be inserted anywhere you want that allows HTML to be used. Again, tracker codes can be inserted here too.
During week four I'll do the big reveal, and the winner will receive a custom graphic with their current picture, profile url and the big shiny words: Hubber of the Month on it.
I kind of feel like I'm rambling now, so I'll shush. Let me know what you think of this idea, guys and gals.
Bah!!! LOL At this rate, I may use up all my good ideas with Hubpages and my book will never be finished.
Oh Yeah! I heard that!
(((Charlotte))) - I wish you the best of luck in his endeavor! Having tried a daily contest myself...it's a lot of upkeep. BTW - you taught me a great lesson about how to gauge interest.
gamergirl said: planning on running this until either my head explodes or nominations slow down so bad that I don't have enough to cast a proper poll. *chuckles*
I think they both actually ended up happened simultaneously in my case.
Q: Are you saying that the YOUR hubber of the month has to be someone who hasn't already been featured by hubpages??? Otherwise you may just end up recapping those same people all over again only a few months behind... just a thought.
Rockinest Hubber? Funkiest Hubber? Hottest Bald Songwriting Hubber?
That's okay, I can't even tell you how many unfinished books I have floating around on disks, drives, or old computers.
"The Would-be Authors, Who Turned into Hubbers Club?" Is that the one?? I'm the president of the Central Oregon chapter.
That's a great idea. If they go for it, it is going to be a lot of work and kudos to you for volunteering.
Donna
This sounds like a fun idea! I could already make a list of great nominees for ya! LOL. Hope you get this going!
Bonnie
Me too!! I'm actually hoping that someone "up on high" sees this and gives me a thumbs up, I don't want to do anything that would steal the thunder from any future ideas the staff may be cooking.
Angela - it is so much more complicated to explain than to do, I think. *laughs*
Gamergirl -- We have no problem with you running something like this. It sounds like it will be fun for everyone.
Ahhhh the gods have spoken This is such a creative idea,gamergirl--you are just amazing and now that you have the green light--wow!!! I think this is great> I'm ready to pat lots of backs, including yours:-)
Wonderful Idea Charlotte!Paul has given his consent and you need to get started right now coz coming months are going to keep you really busy.We have already chosen you as the hubber of this month.Kudos to you for such a brilliant idea! It's gonna be fun.
You're willing to do all that? My hat off to you and I think it's fantastic idea!
Woohoo! Thank you so much, Paul! I'll get the prep work going for this right away.
Charlotte, I think it is a very cool idea. Have fun!
Charlotte! What a clever idea. Best of luck. Is there anything I can do to help?zs
That is a great idea, Charlotte
When are you mean on the forums? It must have been before my time!
Alright folks. I'm going to get the ball rolling on this starting now.
The email address is set up for you to send in your nominations. Here are the ground rules:
You may nominate ONE Hubpages Author.
You may nominate yourself.
With your nomination, you must include your Hubpages profile name.
***Your nomination must be sent to the following email address:
hubberofthemonth@gmail.com
-------Deadline for May's nominations is May 2nd, so get them in before that time!
One, yikes! I can think of at least 20 I'd like to nominate just off the top of my head!
Thanks for volunteering to run this! It sounds like a very cool idea.
WOW - good for you Charlotte. One question, with the nomination, do we include any reason for why we nominated. Or simply the name of the hubber and other info you are asking for? Thanks so much for starting this off with a BANG!
Just remember, everyone, that there are many months ahead of us, and I'm planning on running this until either my head explodes or nominations slow down so bad that I don't have enough to cast a proper poll. *chuckles*
I've actually been thinking about it since I posted, and the more I think about it the more I stand by the one at a time. Think about it. Hundreds, possibly thousands of names to sort and tally in a week? I mean, I can do it.. but woo! Imagine how much worse it would be with multiple available nominations per month!
I love this community, and all of you, but maybe just shy of not that much. LOL
And like Kerry, I am having a time choosing between a few hubbers!!
Steph I find it hard too. I want to nominate at least 25 hubbers.
Excellent idea! I just sent my first nomination in (because otherwise my scatterbrain wouldn't remember the deadline).
I think it's a GR8 and very thoughtfull idea of you to do all that!! it sounds like it will be fun...
What if you win Gamegirl!
Well then I'll make myself a super awesome Hubber of the Month graphic and be uber proud of myself.
Really, though, there are an amazing number of Hub authors who deserve recognition, and this is the community at large's opportunity to do just that.. I'm stoked about this, really I am.
Lol, and so you should be! I agree, this place has some great hubbers and it will be interesting to see this played out.!
Good job;)
(((((Charlotte))))))
I used to post on another site, and that means big hugs!! I really will have a hard time chosing one, but will feel better knowing that it will keep going for quite some time. Have a great Friday evening. I have had the flu most of the week (hence my sporadic posting and few hubs). "see" you all soon.
I nominate YOU as The Hubber Of The Month Charlotte
All The Best
Awww SunSeven. *hugs!!*
Hey (((((((Steph))))))))) right back at you!! I have lost count of the ways I've used to hug people in chat forums and rooms.
Compu-smart, thanks for the kudos, buddy! Where would you be without me telling you about the *cough* actors and actresses you miss out on.
This ongoing project will be vastly different from the weekly spotlight featured in the newsletter.
Instead of a singular chain of appreciation (which is still pretty awesome) this Hubber of the Month project is going by majority vote. This means that you've gotta vote, guys!
That said, let me post the email address to which your nominations MUST be sent. Nominations sent to any other address/location will not be counted.
hubberofthemonth@gmail.com
Again, deadline is May 2, plenty of time to spread the word, mull over who you want to see as the first ever Hubber of the Month - the first winner will be announced at the end of May, so keep an eye on the prize. .
I just put my nomination in!! I hope everyone else participates too!
I've received about ten nominations so far..
I'm actually thinking about emailing and seeing if Hubpages loves me enough to put a little blurb about nominating people in the newsletter or something.. dunno if they'd go for it though, that's premium space. hehe
I just sent number 11. Looking forward to seeing the nominees!
I am glad to see you moving on this, gamergirl.
I'm still new to HP, and I read the HP emails religiously. It only took a couple of emails to see that the hubber featured in the email was referred by a fan hubber (not a bad thing, but limited, as we tend to follow each other).
What you are proposing propels HP into a new direction: evaluating hubbers and hubs on their excellence, not on whom hubbers might know, although, again, this hasn't been a bad formula in the past.
I think HP needs to support this change in direction. The hub community has never had a process for nominating excellence (if it has, I apologize for not knowing, and please point me to where this information lies).
Some hubbers visit the forums, perhaps most don't. How would this new message reach the entire hub community without help from HP, as in how HP promoted the hub love contest?
Sally's -
On the contrary, the weekly hubber in the spotlight does afford a little more opportunity for nomination:
Each person in the spotlight nominates three people they would like to see in the spotlight
Nobody who has previously been in the spotlight before is eligible again, as far as I understand it.
Since the HP newsletter goes out weekly, it would be the best way to send out word about this. I'm leery of hitting up all my fans through the "contact <insertnamehere>" function, or anyone else for that matter, so I'm not sure how I'd get the word out more.
Well, yes.. but in all fairness I don't feel it would be right to accept since I'm the one counting the nominations up..
Maybe you should do yourself a write-up as an example of what they will look like, since you would inevitably be one of the first few, were you not a judge.
This is one of the best suggestions I have seen on hubbers's hang out.
Congratulations for this great idea. and hope it will run for a long time.
I will send my nomination.
Are we allowed a new nomination every week (different0 or one per Hub Sendee?
Great suggestion! I'm happy that you are actually allowed to do this, now I better start trying to get hubber of the month then
D'aww.
Jenny - that's a fantastic idea!
MrM- Nominations are taken for around a week, I'm giving May's nominations a little extra time so that people can have plenty of time to ask questions and all that. When I start gearing up for June's Hubber of the Month, nominations will only be available for one week - so everyone will have to be thinking and watching out for a hubber you think has really shined (shone?)
Recap: I've received nearly 20 nominations - keep 'em coming to this email address -
hubberofthemonth@gmail.com
I love writing, its the only way to be free....you guys are great!!
VERYYY cool Idea Gamergirl... Thumbs UP! Here's another thumb. and another one...and another one...yeh!
Awesome idea, Charlotte!! I just sent in my nomination
I vote that Gamergirl is Aprils Hubber of the Month right here.
Who else will help me vote for her right here.
Her doing the calculations etc would maybe be awkward for her to announce she is the first.
This would also give her a chance to show how the future write-ups would look.
Alright guys and gals, I've tallied the votes so far - yes, even the votes for myself. You may be excited to know how it's going so far, so I'm going to tell you how many votes we've had:
So far - 28 people have voted for April's Hubber of the Month!
That's ALOT!
Keep the votes coming, my lovelies. You can send them to me through the 'Contact gamergirl' link on my profile OR you can email the HotM email directly at:
hubberofthemonth@gmail.com
8 days left until the April winner is announced!
Ive voted!!
Your doing a great job Gamegirl!! if you do win, which you thoroughly deserve some may cry "fix" lol
ps..
If i win i know it will be deffinetly fixedn lol!!

Fine, the forum has lots of people that claims they make thousands of dollars every month. I doubt 98% of them. From my experience, I may want to believe Ryankett because I've seen most of his backlinking works on various sites. If you make that much every month, voice it out and help breath...

Who thinks we should ask to reinstate a page dedicated to locating hubbers by hubber score. Beginning with 100-0.We once had such a page here that made the hubber score much more relevant, and we could at least get a chance to locate the top hubbers who most definitely deserved high praise for...

Can I?I have a couple of smaller accounts. As Amazon currently operates, my earnings go into one pot. From what I can understand, that won't happen once HP take over my Amazon. Or am I wrong? If I'm not, why not? I am going to lose out as it is, and I can't see the separation of my HP accounts being...
