OK, so I just finished categorizing all of my Hubs (I have 31) and I wanted to let everyone know about it....you know, just as a way to encourage all of the other Hubbers out there to cross their category finish line, too.
I took a screenshot of my 'All of your Hubs are categorized' message and thought that we all could post them in this Forum post so that we can all hand out some digital high-fives once each of us completes the categorization process.
I know that I don't have like 200+ Hubs, but I found that Fawntia did an amazing job with the Categorizer that she built -- it was super easy to get my Hubs all put in their correct places.
Of course, seeing Larry over there the whole time helped me stay motivated, too.
More info on categories over in the Official HubPages Announcements Forum: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/11356
I did all 162 of mine yesterday (not sure how well I did on about 30 of them), but this senior citizen doesn't have a clue how to do a screen shot.
Like Jerilee, I did mine yesterday and can't give a screenshot.
I think I'm going to have to give a quick tutorial on how to take and post a screenshot here in the Forums.
What did you guys think of the process? Glad that you got 'em all done!
Did you learn a little bit about Larry during the process?
Thanks! I was very impressed with the easy of this new transition and with Larry's efforts. It wasn't nearly as painful as I had imagined it to be.
760+ hubs all categorized yesterday. Very nice system!
I'm working on mine slowly. Larry's little comments sure make it hard to stop!
I have some of mine done-- I can't take a screenshot because I don't have any shells for my shotgun. Besides, won't that ruin the screen?
Complete!!
Now I can begin to write more articles thank goodness I waited:)
I did it too--- At first I was trying to do it by revisiting each hub-- then I found the easy way from the account page.
Wow, Patty, I'm impressed!
I did all mine yesterday too, but in a couple blocks. 750+ would probably have taken me days!
Just finished mine! I don't have too many so it didn't take that long. I am excited about the new categories! It may actually be useful for getting ideas for new hubs!
I categorized my 370 hubs yesterday and found the process to be really simple. Like others here, I was impressed with how well the tool work and how easy it was to complete the categorization task.. I often direct potential freelance clients to my hubs as samples of my work and this category option makes it a lot easier to direct them to the hubs that are most relevant to them! Very cool.
I did mine two nights ago. It was easy. I just got a new monitor for Christmas so I refuse to shoot it...sorry
Hey Larry / Hubpages,
Started to categorize but found that Entertainment > Music > Rap & Hop-Hop?
HOP-HOP? ouch.
Hip-Hop is the actual category.
Hip-Hop & Rap is fine but not the other way around.
Rap is a very outdated word. More of a verb than a genre.
Thanks, even though I'm the only one who prob'ly cares.
Also, please add Reggae and Funk.
Do we really need a Rock, Classic Rock & Hard Rock?
Little Diversity Please!
Lyrics should not be category as it is illegal to post someone's lyrics anyway.
What is Regional Music? Sounds like World Music to me.
Every part of the world is in some region right?
Musicians & Singers? wtf? They all are one or the other.
How about Production & Sampling? Got 17 hubs with over 1,000 views on this!
Hi DJ Funktual,
Great feedback! I appreciate your comments on the music categories.
Thanks for noticing the typo with Hip-Hop. It's been corrected. I've added Reggae, Funk, and Production & Sampling categories.
Regional Music has been replaced by World Music.
Cheers,
-Larry
One more Larry my man and I can't believe we overlooked it. PUNK
It is essential for the many hubs on The Clash & Ramones, Thank You!
Also, in lieu of the fact the sales of vinyl increased 70 % this past year, I think the category VINYL would also be helpful!
I agree. I've added Punk and Vinyl to Entertainment/Music.
Cheers,
-Larry
Aww... typo's are allowed here n there..lol .. nothing like a lil humor tho, thank you Larry!
Categorising to the Larry beat was great! Done mine - and realised how few I've written - got to go write lots more!
Sure, Goldentoad. Just email me your HubPages password. I promise not to get into any mischief in there. I would never do anything like that.
Yeah I wonder what a goldentoad would look like say..........hmmm as a golden toad?
This sounds toooo much like work & at this point, I don't want to do any more work.....
Well I just did and I think I'm going to make some changes tomorrow.
I didn't see a lot of categories I should be listed under.
I'm too tired right now
'night.
Another suggestion I had about the subcategory for history was not to lump Australia and Oceania together. I think breaking Oceania up into Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia would make it more specific. Also, give New Zealand its own category perhaps .
Hi SweetiePie,
Thanks very much for your request.
In my view, any history discussions that are nation-specific should probably go in Travel & Places.
For example, if you want to write about the History of New Zealand, I think that would fit nicely in:
Travel & Places/Oceania/Australasia/New Zealand
If you wanted to write about Micronesia, then you could put the hub in:
Travel & Places/Oceans/Micronesia
Will that work for you?
-Larry
I did not see all the categories yet, so thanks for pointing this out. Great job with this .
Now this the kind of thing that will make me wanna categorize all 250 hubs.
thank you, thank you thank you!
Larry, you are an All-Star!
The only other thing I could think to add (if you have room) would be maybe by decade
~50s 60s 70s 80s 90s~
As far as TV Shows goes, I would add these three....Science Fiction, Cartoons & Reality
I've added the following TV show categories:
* Reality TV
* Science Fiction & Fantasy (that's what I have in other places)
* TV Cartoons
I'm open to adding 50's, 60's, etc. to the Music Category but I want to think about it more. As a rule, other than the History category, I've been trying to avoid decade-type categories. I would prefer to organize by the music genres that were popular in the 50s, popular in 60s, etc.
I'll post back here after I've thought more about it.
I have absolutely no idea how to get a screen shot, nor what it is, but I got all my Hubs Categorized!
I haven't finished mine yet, but I'm noticing the odd duplication and inconsistency. For instance, there is a category for "Dance" under Performing Arts but there's also a separate category for "Ballet". Unless there's a specific SEO reason for making ballet separate (is it more popular or something?), then it makes no sense - ballet should be under Dance.
Hi Marissa,
I agree. I moved Ballet as a subcategory of Dance.
-Larry
Hi darkside,
The History of Inventions category is Knowledge & Education/History of Archeology/Major Inventions & Discoveries.
Recent Inventions should probably be organized by the "type" of invention. The current broad categories are:
Technology/Audio & Video
Technology/Communications
Technology/Computers & Software
Technology/Gagets & Personal Electronics
Technology/Green & Alternative Energy
Technology/Internet
-Larry
Hey, you guys,
Today, I categorized all of my hubs, too. It really was quite simple. I actually enjoyed a new way of processing. I guess we do this each time we post from now on, right? {although I still don't know many of the 'ins and outs' [still learning] of blogging, categorizing may just be the thing.} Larry was 'incentive' enough to keep it going. Best to ya...
Cosmically,
Paula Andrea, MA
All three of mine are categorized. Whew! Glad I did this now rather than after I've done the 3,000 hubs I have planned
I've got a hub I've just published about Matches. I wasn't digging as deep as Archaeology (pun intended!).
Stuff that was thought up about 50+ to 200 years years ago kinda falls between those two (chronological) extremes. For instance: zippers.
Also, under Music could there be Musical Instruments & Equipment?
Hi darkside,
I've added a Knowledge & Education/History & Archeology/History of Technology category.
Will that work for zippers and matches?
For Musical Instruments, check out Entertainment/Performing Arts where we have
Brass
Drums & Percussion
Electronic Music
Guitars & String Instruments
Pianos & Keyboards
Woodwinds
-Larry
Got mine done........the tool was great....very user friendly....it made going back easy as I hunted around for the right choices. The suggested categories were helpful. Cute little shots of Larry were cute to liven things up along the way.
Congrats! You have officially crossed the finish line.
Larry,
Would you consider Gems and Jewelry as a sub category in Business or fashion?
Jyoti Kothari
Hi Jyoti,
We have a Jewelry section under Fashion & Beauty. Included there is:
Fashion & Beauty/Jewelry/Gemstones
-Larry
Hm.
How would you go guys categorize a hub called "How to Hold Chopsticks"?
Hi Stacie,
Please use:
Food/Ethics & Traditions/Eating Utensils
-Larry
Hmm food/asian or maybe travel/how to or travel tips depending on the hubs focus?
...and a big, ol HubPages BOO YAH to that!
Having done the categorization on my friend's laptop, I could have done without all the stuff about Larry as it took up a really major portion of the screen that would have served me much better by being used for the task at hand instead of being like an endless commercial that I couldn't get away from.
Nothing personal, Larry, but I really hated that part of the categorization process. It annoyed me 114 times which was about 113 more than I would have preferred.
Hmmm...well I look at Larry every day and I can't seem to get enough of him. I guess that we could add a 'Please tell Larry to shut up' link to make him go away.
But that would make Larry sad...
I had fun seeing Larry tell us which categories to put our hubs in, and I think some people who are new to the website will get a kick out of it too.
All my hubs are categorized, and I must say, I loved doing the categorizing. It reminded me of making an eBay listing! I figured out the screenshot thing, too!
Or I thought I did. I don't know why it didn't work.

I just noticed that I had couple of hubs (very early efforts) that were not categorized at all. They just appeared under 'home'. There was no warning associated with this.Might be worth applying some kind of alert (including pages that are categorized to just one level of a hierarchy).I know that...

We made an update to the site a few minutes ago. The big changes with this release are the addition the hub categorization tool, and some enhancements to the main search box as well as request and forum search.CategoriesFrom this point you must select a single category for all new hubs. ...

Just few hours back when I Logged In I got the message that my Hubs have not been categorized..Have you did that and what are all the benefits by doing so? Will it increase the traffic?
by Priyanka Biswas 13 years ago
Ok...I have a silly question. Whenever I visit a fellow hubber's profile page I can see "Some of X's favorite topics" and the hubs categorized under each topic listed. I could not find how I can mark my favorites! Please let me know how to do this.

The new HubPages food site, Delishably.com has launched! Feel free to stop by and check it out and congratulations to the Hubbers who have had food Hubs selected.
by Virginia Allain 10 years ago
It isn't just mine, but I'm hearing others suddenly have a list with white circles on many hubs. Many were recently approved by QAP. Some have hub scores in the 90s or upper 80s. What is the reason for this and what are we expected to do about it? How do we get these hubs featured again?Merry...
