It has now been confirmed by CNN and other news services that Whitney Houston age 48 has passed away. The cause of her death is not yet being reported. Sad news indeed. That lady could sing.

Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, died Saturday. She was 48.

Whitney Houston died much too young.  I think that her tumultous marriage to Bobby Brown is probably a partial explanation for why she messed her life up so badly with drugs.

This loss is beyond any words that can be written or said. So terrible and painful to so many. Our prayers should go to her mother and daughter especially. And to the rest of her family.

I just saw this earlier today - it's a tragic loss for her family, her fans and the music industry. I remember when I first saw Whitney Houston way back in the 80's it must have been when we were all young and daft. It always struck me just how beautiful this lady was and her voice just touched your soul!

A few weeks ago I saw a photograph of her and I was stunned and so saddened by her thin frame and old features - she looked nearer 60 than the 48 years she was. But I will always remember her as the beautiful singer with the stunning voice and I hope she rests in peace. Blessings to her and her family.

It was a major loss. She was a very talented woman. Sadly, she had it coming. She WAS a drug addict, so I really don't think that her death should've come as a great suprise.

I reread your post several times, Friendlyword.

Some of our best and brightest stars are also addicts.
They shine like supernovas while here on earth.
But that amount of heat and light is simply too hard for the body to sustain long term.
That is why the cosmos reclaims them seemingly before their time.
It's been said many times many ways,
"Only the good die young." Billy Joel
        "Die young, stay pretty." Blondie
"The harder they come, the harder they fall." Jimmy Cliff

It's not news when they get sober. But thankfully, the list of great talents who figure it out and stop putting in is long and illustrious, too. smile

"It's not news when they get sober. But thankfully, the list of great talents who figure it out and stop putting in is long and illustrious, too"

It seems to be the attemp at a comeback that kills them. The recovery process is insulting and not tolerated by the universe.

I hope you don't mean that the way I read it.
"The recovery process is insulting and not tolerated by the universe."
            ???
Recovery as in recovery from addiction?
            Insulting?
            Not tolerated by the universe??

Recovery as practiced by the likes of Steven Tyler, Bruce Willis, Craig Ferguson, John Laroquette, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Downey Jr., ...
That's just off the top of my head without consulting a list of famous people who are sober.

I was just trying to say it is so wrong for people like Marvin Gaye to beat drug addiction, come back with the greastest hit song of his life, and then die right in the middle of his great comeback. You know how great Heath, Micheal, Marvin, and Whitney would be today, if they survived.  No insult intended here.  But, these were all really tragic losses because of how they died and when they died.  It was so soon after their recovery or just when they thought they made it back to fame.

              God Bless Robert Downey Jr.!

Unfortunately, however, far too many of these celebrities think that they can have it both ways regarding drugs and stardom.   They find out, the hard way, and too late, that they can't.   What a shame!

Prayers go out to her Mom Cissy and her daughter Bobbi. It's so sad to lose such an awesome talent. But the effects of addiction can last a lifetime and her having a serious ailment as a result will not come as a surprise. It doesn't diminish her "one" of a kind talent and the effect it had on so many of us. I can hear her singing "I will always love you" to the depths of my soul. As only she could make you feel.

That being said, Whitney Houston did not deliberately choose to die on this day. She deserves as much respect as your friend does. We can't all be perfect people, people make mistakes and she made a big one when she got mixed up with Bobby Brown and drugs...

    WHITNEY HOUSTON LYRICS

    "I Will Always Love You"

    If I
    Should stay
I would only be in your way
    So I'll go
    But I know
I'll think of you every step of
    the way

    And I...
    Will always
    Love you, oohh
    Will always
    Love you
    You
    My darling you
    Mmm-mm

    Bittersweet
    Memories
That is all I'm taking with me
    So good-bye
    Please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you
    You need

    And I...
    Will always love you
    I...
    Will always love you
    You, ooh

    [Instrumental / Sax solo]

    I hope
    life treats you kind
    And I hope
you have all you've dreamed of
    And I wish you joy
    and happiness
    But above all this
    I wish you love

    And I...
    Will always love you
    I...
    Will always love you
    [Repeat]

    I, I will always love
    You....
    You
    Darling I love you
    I'll always
    I'll always
    Love
    You..
    Oooh
    Ooohhh

If any parent is struggling with how to talk to their children about the dangers of drug use Houston's story is a perfect one to share.  She had a huge career and a beautiful voice.  Once she hooked up with Bobby Brown and started doing drugs she lost it all, including her life.

This is one of the greatest tragedies of all!  Whitney Houston had so much beauty, talent, and a voice beyond compare.  To throw it all away on drugs and alcohol is so sad.  She used them so much and trashed her own life, I'm surprised she made it to age 48.  I send condolences to the Houston family on their loss of a loved one they desperately tried to help, but who continued in her addictions to the end.  I feel for her daughter, Bobbie Krystina, and send my sympathy to her also.  I hope she learns from her mother's mistakes and only takes the good aspects from her mother's life.

She may have been a tortured soul in life, but she has found peace.
