I have published short stories in newspapers and magazines, including Hubpages. I don't have a published book, but I'm hopeful that someday I will be able to publish my short story collection. I have a short story manuscript ready, and currently I'm working in a novel.

Hello, I just started a hub today, in it I mention that I've been working on a novel for several years.  I have bits and pieces written to it and am currently working on trying to put some of the pieces together, and eventually get it done.  It's loosely based on a news event that happened near my childhood home, except the news event is an unsolved mystery, and my story is a fictional scenario to what might have happened and somewhat a compilation of some pretty nasty nightmares I've had.  I am planning on editing an excerpt of it later this week and posting it for comment.

    Hi,

    Any critics on here?

I am a published author in the fitness field and  just eBooked my first novel. Before I submit it to Amazon however, I am looking for critical previews. Anyone in a similar boat? I would reciprocate the favour by reading and commenting on your next book.

You can email me from my profile page.

Hey All. Just reading your post makes me feel like I  am in deep waters here. But anyway.
I am Joan Maynard and I am from a Caribbean Island named St Kitts.
I have been writing all my life. I mainly write poetry, dialogues and a few songs. I have written a few short stories and one guy's manual called ' How to Romance your Girl in 31 Days'. You can fine excerpts of my manual on hub. It's really witty.

I recently got fed up of keeping my stuff all to my self and just wanted to find a place to share and get advice. So here I am.

I am Jeanesse Martinez and I am from Gauteng, South Africa.
I write raw, imaginative content that are mostly based on random thoughts that pop up in my head from time to time.
Majority of my works have been short stories and deeply emotional thoughts but I also wirte poetry and songs.
I am still a newborn to the Hubpages community but I am excited to learn from more experienced writers smile
My gut tells me that this will be an interesting journey and I will keep writing for all the world to see and enjoy smile

I'm Nic, I have just started writing a story I have been posting here on Hub Pages called: The Journal of Fate. I have no idea where I want to take it or what to categorize it as. Example: Historical Fiction, Fiction, Short Story, Novel, Ebook. But, does that really matter?

Nevertheless, I have four parts currently and would appreciate the extra feedback. This is my first fiction story, and who knows if I'll write another one afterwards.

Wow, so many people here! Glad to see so many fiction writers on Hubpages! Here's my introduction: My name is Keith DuBarry, currently a student at Rowan University for Writing Arts and Communication Studies, and I usually write fictions in the Sci-fi/fantasy and horror/gore genres. I also have shared a prolific amount of hubs including my poetry and song lyrics.

My technique with writing fiction is being mindful of the dialogue and ensure the lines fit the characterizations I have applied to a particular scene to benefit all three arcs of the story to ensure a well concluded story.

Adult fiction writer here, and occassional poet. I discovered HubPages because I was trying to find non-judgmental info on alpha males as part of my character research and got directed here by google! So I signed up, added a few hubs, and then my city flooded. Game-changer. I promptly stopped spending so much time online and put it into my writing instead... because you never know what's waiting down the road to sideline you. The result was a 90,000 word 1st draft, a 50,000 word outline for the sequel, a 40,000 word outline for the 3rd book... and a smattering of ideas chucked into the outline of the 4th in the series. I'm currently refining the prose and dialog of the 1st book but I like where its at for the characters and plot. And I want that baby published!!

I've read LOADS of books on writing. Of them all, the two stand-outs are: The Fire in the Fiction by Donald Maass (and his "The Breakout Novelist" on Kindle as a great companion), and Wired for Story by Lisa Cron. In my opinion they will improve your fiction writing immeasurably because they focus on what a READER wants. And a love of reading books with great characters came first for me. The key was writing for the reader in me and not the bloody critic. :-)

    Good luck to everyone!

I went to school for Fiction writing but eventually stumbled upon hub pages.  I have a couple of books in the works...one is a memoir and I have a brief bit posted here on hub pages.  It is about a mother daughter relationship which deals with the stigma of mental illness (bipolar).  It is a sarcastic and somewhat varying view of this subject.

I am also dabbling in fantasy having been a huge fan since I was young.  This switch has been much more challenging and i am still working on finding MY voice in this form of writing.  Nice topic!

I have been writing since my childhood, but just recently started writing seriously. Thank you for the opportunity to crawl out of my shell ! I write for the pure delectation I get from it. I started writing short stories, my favorites by far, as some kind of a therapy badly needed after a bitter divorce. It worked ! Creating fictional characters is a tremendous power : you get to give birth to your figments, you make then live, you make them love, you make them die if you wish so, and...nobody gets hurt. Sometimes, it happens that I like a character I created so much, I wish she or he was real. I'll probably never make any serious money out of this, because I don't even try. I'm not going to spend time and energy chasing pennies, I'd rather write something else for the fun of it and that's what I do. And let's be realistic, I don't even know if what I write is any good. I have been writing for about 12 years now, but only recently started to write in English, which is not my first language, and as impercfect as it might be, I certainly welcome the challenge, and the satisfaction I get from it.
Being on Hubpages also gave me the chance to read a lot other people's work, and that in itself is a treat. The amount of creativity found here is just amazing, the possibility to debate is open. So thank you, my fellow writers for sharing some of your work. Now, let's go write something, shall we ?

I wrote a few short stories six or seven years ago while taking creative writing courses. They were published in the school's literary magazine and I won first place for two of them. I also enjoy writing poetry, and tried writing a screenplay. I think that my stories are good and draw the reader in but they need some polishing.

Alright, well... I'm Dallas. I've got some fiction up on my account here, and more on the other site I've been writing for (Helium). Most of what I've managed to put up, so far, has been short flash fiction type stuff - and, the occasional poem on Helium (which always struck me as a bit odd, since I rarely read poetry, and I often just don't get it when I do). And, I also have a decent selection of half-finished and half-formed stuff floating around that I'm hoping to do something with, at some point, as well. I'm hoping to convince someone to pay me for something I've done, sometime soon, but it's taking me a while to get to that point.

Fantasy and science fiction are what I tend to prefer, but that isn't always what I focus on when I'm writing.

My name is Kara Leigh Miller and I've been on Hubpages for a little over two years. I took a hiatus to work on my writing, but I'm back now.

I'm an erotic romance writer. My stories are hot and heavy on the sex, light on the humor, and tossed with a pinch of danger. Of course they all end with a happily-ever-after.

I've had two ebooks (novellas) published--one with Books to Go Now and the other with Cobblestone Press--and I've got two more under contract. I've also written several full length novels that I'm shopping around to agents and publishers.

I'd like to start putting some of my short stories and/or excerpts from my books on here, but I'm not sure if they're appropriate and I'd hate to have my account banned wink

    Hello there everyone.

I know that people always say to write what you know, so with that in mind I set my first novel in 1930's America and my second novel in the future and in space! Obviously my real life as an English homemaker, the wrong side of forty, gave me all the inspiration I needed to write the books and publish them, they are both available from Amazon.

I like to play around in many different genres, from Sci -Fi to historical fiction, gay romance to erotica. I am working on a detective novel and a fantasy tale aimed at young adults. Both of which I hope to see published in the new year.

I write because I just can't imagine what my life would be like if I couldn't put my thoughts and feelings down on paper - (keyboard) - whatever.

My specialty is writing historical mystery, with a twenty-first century twist. Hi,

I like writing flash fiction stories.

While we are at it, are there any good flash fiction sites to post them on? By good I mean: A. Revenue sharing. B. Google actually sends flash fiction traffic to it.

My name is Nicola Thompson, and I have always been a fiction writer.
It used to be that I liked to write historical fiction, especially around the times of the Salem Witch Trials, but toward the end of high school I had a flash of a story idea, and began writing my first novel, which fell into the category of fantasy - something I never was interested in reading or writing. After that, I found most of my stories fell into that category. To this day, I have finished that novel and self-published it, having it for sale at a local book store as well as online. The first few chapters are also posted on here, as well as the first chapter to the second and third book of the trilogy, though at this time, neither of them are finished.
I am also currently working on another book, which I am not sure will be just a single book or a series. I have to admit, when it comes to writing a novel, writing several books in a series seems far less daunting than writing one big super long book. I think part of me is afraid that the reader will be afraid to pick it up,  and be afraid of the commitment that reading the whole thing in one go would entail. I think also I find it easier to leave off at a cliff hanging point, and then have a completed novel, and then be able to have a good starting point for my next novel.
If I'm doing it for the numbers - number of completed novels, number of book sales, etc - writing a series makes sense, but I'm not sure those are the right reasons, not if I want to stay true to the art of writing.
I seem to have gone off on a tangent. But I think that they are good things to ponder when contemplating a novel/series.
It is nice to meet you all. I have been on HP for two years, but it wasn't until the last none months or so that I really started giving HP more of my attention, and it has only been in the last six months or so that I have really been trying to get involved in the community of it all - answering questions, asking q

Hi everyone. You probably know me better for the romantic poems that I write on Hub Pages and currently putting into my first poetry book. I did try my hand at fiction by writing a hub "Narcissus in Peril" as part of a set of hubs by different writers here who are centering the story around some known Greek mythical characters but set in post modern times... part romantic and part comedy.

I never knew if I could write fiction until I wrote that hub. But people loved it. I will write more fiction and I encourage everyone on Hub Pages to dip their toes in the water of fiction writing. There are some amazing fiction writers on hub Pages. Perhaps there should be a list or directory or index of writers, or we could start a group...

I actually have only seen a beginning of the Carrie movie, so this book is my own original idea.  Wasnt based on Carrie, I thought of it after seeing twilight and I wanted my own kind of book.  Do be on the look out for it soon.  I am more of a Dean Koontz fan than a Stephen King fan, but that was back in my darker times, I try to write only positive stories now, they dont have to be totally positive as long as the message they are giving is positive.

When I first came to Hubpages about five years ago, the first several hubs I had were related to Antiquity. Ironically, those hubs were about the least-read hubs I have written. Fortunately my sales have not been bad, and they seem to be picking up this month in particular, so I am optimistic for 2013.

I've done plenty of short stories during my short time here and most of them average about 400 words (flash fiction is the term for mine, though I've done long stories, too). Hub pages is not only a viable venue for a short story but it may also get noticed by someone willing to publish it in an anthology.

      Why do I say that?

In June of last year, my short story "Not Quite Cricket" was chosen to be included in an anthology of about 20 stories and poems. I have already been paid for it and it comes out in May. I was quoted per copy royalties and e-book royalties. I am so excited. The offer came out of the blue (at least to me it was out of the blue), but I believe that by posting on this forum -- Fiction Writers - Please Introduce Yourselves -- greatly increased my chances of being noticed.

So get working on that short story. Come back here when it is posted and brag away!  If it is of interest, you could be the next published writer on hubpages.com!

Good Luck and don't give up!

I'll definitely check out Eden's Fallen Shaman.  I may not get to it for a couple of days due to my work schedule but I will definitely check it out.  Thanks!

You can always post short stories to your own blog, or even Amazon takes short stories if you are looking to sell.  I tend to write longer so I only publish my very short works on HubPages.

I have only written one piece of fiction here in Hub Pages and it was based on characters developed by several hubbers including A. A. Zavala. It's part of a horror story about modern day Gods based on Greek gods names like Narcissus and Nemesis. Borrowing from greek mythology, it is set to humor and light comedy and romance, and recently added a lot of Zombies, courtesy of me... LOL. It's a change from my usual output of romantic love poems on hub pages.

I am editing a large novel for a hub writer, and besides blogging and working as a junior editor, I am soon to publish my first poetry collection as a book. I'm happy to add my name here. I am planning more fiction in the near future. Great thread. There are some great writers here and I should check out their hubs...
