Also I'd be very careful If you're planning to write a hub about porn and strippers if you use Adsense on your hubs, even if it's an academic hub analyzing the topic.

Google won't know it's an academic hub, and if the words 'porn' and 'strippers' appear frequently within the text this could cause you problems.  However if you don't use Adsense then go for it, should make for an interesting read.

I think the serious answer is that they are 2 entirely different things. Strippers are a baying, manic soon forgotten social event for most men (or women who enjoy male strippers). Porn is a much more solitary affair involving some people in paraphillias which consume their lives. The latter are usually men but some women too fall victim.

Bottom line (no pun intended) is that porn is a poor substitute for sex and intimacy.

Ok, here is a different take:  Most of the nice boys I've known (and they were all nice boys, wink) look at porn mags or videos on occasion or with a partner in private.

None of them has ever occasioned a stripper or a hooker...as they see that on a whole other level (I know because I've asked.)  And I don't think we can pretend strippers and hookers aren't somewhat related professions.

One of my ex's had a friend who was...uh, well, whatever...who became my ex bf's house guest after a break up.  Anyway, this guy calls up an escort/hooker, willing to do ANYTHING.  My bf was quite ashamed and I remember came over to tell me about it and stay with me (actually he phrased it that he wanted to get the hell out of there).  My respect for him grew considerably after that.

I should say this was a very charming guy, too, an ex-football hero--someone who always had plenty of girls.  But that's the key...some don't need to pay for it.

I think nice boys are probably scared of hookers. I know I am and I am not especially nice. Any woman who has been exploited and abused through any period of time will think nothing of exploiting and abusing others. I wouldn't want either bad acting or war in bed. Especially if I had to pay for it.

On the other hand, if you only know nice boys I think you are missing the significant minority who are locked into porn as a substitute for intimacy and really suffer as a consequence.

Take a trip to 4chan if want to understand the sad mindset of intelligent and educated kids who believe they will never kiss a girl, never have sex and never have enough porn.

Huh....yeah.  I guess you may be right.  And I completely agree that porn can be a poor substitute for real sex and intimacy for some.  Significant minority, huh?  I'm glad I don't know them.

I think most of the men I've known--who were not angels, either, wink--would have found hookering or strippering below them, frankly.  Unlike some ahem,(NY's Elliot Spitzer) some politicians or wealthy old guys (not saying all) who see sex as something of a power play or commodity one can certainly 'have,' like anything else.

Sorry to break up all the fun after all this banter, but you do realize that HubPages and Google aren't going to like your hub- you know, being about porn and all. If you do publish it, you should be careful about what you put in it.

Some people have had their more provocative hubs flagged.

Stacie, unfortunately it doesn't matter whether you keep it "clean" or not.  Google Adsense is pretty dumb - others who have written serious Hubs about sexual issues have had to take them down.  They only look at the words, not the context (like email filters). Just using sex-related words is enough.  I think it would be pretty hard to talk about strippers and porn without using any sex-related words!

I use to frequent a local strip bar, here in Mass. I always had my favorite. I had my favorite dancers. And, I would only spend my money on them, mostly.

It was fun. I enjoyed watching some of the best looking women I've ever had the pleasure of seeing naked. They wouldn't give me the time of day on the outside of work, but while I was a customer, they occupy my time.

It's an interesting power-trip, from one side of the equation. You have money, they want it. Some are even willing to do extra to get it. I know- been there done that.

These women, at least in most places with a good reputation, has the best girls. There is your share of places that I wouldn't ever step in, because they are disgusting. The women  really not anything to look at.

There is an underlying story in that alone. Why? and How a Woman can come to work in a slum type establishment?

But, my overall experience was enjoyment.

well i dont like strip clubs myself or strippers. ive been to a few and came to that conclusion .why? i found them to be very fake and shallow. and the idea of paying for attention just isnt my thing. as far as porn both sexes enjoy porn to a extent i think. why?  curiosity , and cloths ,sometimes we just wonder what someone looks like naked. naked isnt a bad thing nor is sex.wanting to see both is just a natural curiosity i think.now as for  certain types of illegal porn . that is a sickness and a crime. and shouldn't be labeled porn .

Some women also do. Sexual urge for one, hormonal pleasure as well as physical, some like to go to a stripper bar for a laugh, some couples watch porn together, some men are without women and it's a second prize, some will watch it if their woman is away for a long time. Some admire the shape and the beauty of the naked body...

Men are visual beings....the sight of a woman doing naughty things will then be pleasing to them.
They get aroused by sight first, whether it's their actual eyes or their mind's eyes.

Whereas women are more about the touch and feelings, women are visual too but more weight is placed on the former  two...which explains alot about ho fast it takes a man/woman to cum.

Porn and stripping it's all a form of release and escapism.

But I'm sure many women are partial to some stripping and porn them selves.

        cool

I guess I'm not your "typical" guy. I don't view any porn (and it probably helps that my wife happens to be the hottest creature I have ever laid eyes on), but, on rare occasions, we'll take our party to a strip club. It doesn't do much for me, as we're quite acclimated to Europe's topless communities.

Simple answer: men love looking at women they don't normally or can't gain access to on the average day.

Strippers and porn movies, allow them access to nudity of women. smile

Although your question is a generalization (i.e., not ALL men are into that stuff), so is my answer...so I guess it's even wink

Anyway, as trite as this sounds, I don't mean it to be: strippers and porn are about nudity and sex. Period. That's why men like them.

If you want to go deeper, there is evidence that suggests that men are very sensitive (i.e., they become aroused easily) to visual stimulus. Women, on the other hand, (in general) are more auditory and tactile; in other words, they are more easily aroused by hearing certain arousing things (these vary according to individual) and by being touched.

I hope that helps! Good luck with your hub.

I am sure there is porn addiction. But with regard to married men, a more healthy interaction was like my parents had. They went to dances and danced with other partners. Of course they were not in  a death clutch, but rather it was ballroom dancing. They always went home with their wives and there was little playing around or divorce.

I would say that now, people probably don't do that as that was a more innocent time.

Nowdays, for married men, their wives can be their only dream, as the song by Stevie Nicks says, or it may be necessary for fantasy to keep the marriage going now and again. If that is the case, then a married guy should always end up with his partner.

Given the two options, fantasy and infidelity, fantasy is better. It isn't perfect, it isn't the wife being his only dream, but it is better than having an affair.

The song lyric BTW is from Silver Spring by Fleetwood Mac.

I think a lot of men are very sexually curious, as they are easily aroused especially by visual means. I have talked to a few men who said they just like looking at girl parts. I think once you're married, you shouldn't look at porn, I mean you have a wife for your pleasure. Plus, it makes some of us feel like we're not good enough and a lot of us dream about having that male fantasy body. Porn, fuels a very toxic industry from the inside and out. Inside these women are objectified and treated horribly. Because it's out there people will look. Guys love to take that forbidden fruit, because they are dumb enough to be lured in by just one apple. They turn into drooling primal cavemen in 2 seconds flat when shown a boob. haha.

Strippers and porn stars make EYE contact and the eye contact simulates the powerful experience of attachment that many, perhaps most, men have not experienced to the fullest that they could have during their first nine months of life and early development in general.  This is not a blame regarding Mom, but just the observation that we are now learning more and more about attachment, the neurobiology of attachment, and its significance through out our lifetime.  Strippers and porn stars know this and make eye contact purposefully.  It really is less about the woman's body, and more about her seemingly making eye contact with just you...

Also, my wife enjoys porn just as much as the next person as well as many of her female friends.  I just think women are not quite as vocal about it.

Because you watch a little porn and on occasion see a stripper does not make you a bad person but rather it makes you a human.

If you give your man everything he needs, he will not choose to look at strippers or porn, you can be his sex kitten and pole dancer in the bedroom just like the woman on stage. smile

Sorry AE, I disagree.  As I stated earlier, men are visual creature and we are always going to look.  It has nothing to do with what we have back home or what our women are or are not doing for us.  Advertisers have figured this out so has Hollywood.  Sex sells because men look.  The only thing that makes it wrong is when men that are in relationships act on their fantasies without their significant other.

        1. Marisa Wright profile image86
Marisa Wrightposted 15 years agoin reply to this

I disagree, too AE.  Most men are highly sexual creatures - you've heard the one about a researcher talking to a group of men.  She says she believes men think about sex about once every ten minutes and is conducting a survey to see if that's true.  All the men get together and agree she's definitely being unrealistic.

Ten minutes is far too long.

It is a generalization, but most men have a higher sex drive than their wives/girlfriends, once the first frenzy of a relationship has quietened down.  Men need an outlet for their surplus sexual energy.  Looking at pictures or watching an exotic dancer is a much safer outlet than flirting or getting involved with hookers.

I'm a dancer, and I often dance for my husband in various costumes and stages of undress.  He still likes to look at scantily-clad women, although he mainly does it in art galleries and on TV rather than porn mags or strip shows.  I see that as part of a normal, healthy male appetite.

I'd rather he looked and fantasised than started going out and doing something about it.

I agree with AEvans . . . for most married men, it's "safer" and "easier" to watch porn or go to a strip club than it is to talk about fantasies with a wife -- I think the occasional powerful politician caught in an affair is a good example and reason why. I've read about women feeling crushed that their husband or boyfriend watches porn. Too bad, they need to see how they can encourage them to be open

      Well, guys above, sorry...

But I disagree.  I'm pretty visual.  I have training as a painter and have worked as a graphic designer, however, last time I checked, I was female.  I look...not excessively, of course. (It's not that interesting and not that worth it.)  I'd maintain that 'men are visual creatures,' etc. is an old culturally enforced stereotype.

And--I wrote a hub on sexy movies, used the word sex, described sexual situations, etc., and have been just fine.  Of course it depends on redeeming social/cultural value and how you present the material--always.  AEvans also wrote some hub about spicing up your sex life, and she was fine, too.

Within each category there are several gradations. A "stripper" can be someone who takes most of it off at a strip club and wraps her limbs around a pole. Or it could be a juice club where they bare it all. Or it can be the kind of stripper who entertains at your bachelor party -- and all that that scenario implies.

As for porn, there's soft-core porn (I assume that still exists)and every manner of sexual pairing (or tripling, quadrupling, etc.) imaginable. There's gay porn and there's girl-on-girl which is not really lesbian porn but designed to get men off.

I don't know the statistics, but from what I know of men, the vast, vast majority really like looking at naked women's bodies. They are wired that way.

There are definitely men who don't enjoy strippers. There are some women who do. There are people of both sexes who like to watch porn to enhance their sex lives (either together with their partner or solo). But there are quite a few porn addicts out there -- and my sense is they are predominantly male.

Maybe after you write your hub a follow-on topic could be "What kind of women enjoy strippers and porn?"

Hmm.. I must admit that I like to watch porn from time to time, but solo.
At the same time I don't really like it when I 'bust' my bf in his.. moment.
I'm guessing that he's watching porn on a frequent basis although we
live together (not for definitive, though); he's taking the time for it in the
bathroom, as I guess, when he needs to 'go' and brings his laptop with him
(since he kind of needs to 'go' for a long time mostly and has to work as well).
I'm sure he's not only working in that little room.. not every time.
But I know that he needs a little time for himself, always. He comes home
from work and there I am, pretty much always. So I can understand.
I don't like to admit that I find it hard when my bf is doing something while I am
doing it myself as well (it's actually a matter of insecurity which I'm still dealing with),
but I can proudly say that I am in the process of accepting/understanding it fully. smile

Guys just need it and (most) women do too. One person more than the other.
It's a physical urge/relief and can bring the mind to zero, like playing yahtzee
or something over and over on the internet. Just to empty your worrisome mind.

Recent scientific studies indicate that though men and women are both susceptible to erotic visual stimuli,  the way their brains process the images may be different.

Some interesting  articles on this subject are found  by typing  this wrong-grammar search phrase into the Yahoo search engine: "how women's brains processes images".
ScienceDaily and dnaindia post some of this info.

The observations made in the articles harmonize with the fact that women love to see (male or female) strippers and pornography too, only not as noticeably or universally as do men.
