    Halloween - A Witch's Perspective

The holiday of Halloween is called Samhain (sow-in) or Summer’s End by witches worldwide.  In the Southern Hemisphere this holiday is held on April 30th.  This holiday is the celebration of the dead.  Candles are lit and pictures of loved ones lost in the last year are put on the altar.  This holiday is also the beginning of the New Year for witches.  It also commemorates the beginning of the dark half of the year.   It is common to eat a feast prepared from foods of the last harvest such as turnips, gourds, apples, nuts mulled wines, beef, pork and poultry.
